  • We took the Zephyr to Chicago then hopped on the Cardinal to Baltimore. It was a round trip in first class bedrooms. I've uploaded vids if you want to take a look. Thanks for a great video!

  • Beautiful!

  • is this train actually that slow or is it jus feelin like it ?

  • @shameful911 In this stretch it's tough for Amtrak to really go fast. Way too many curves plus you don't want to miss the scenery in Glenwood Canyon. Across the plains, the Zephyr is known to go over 80mph in some areas.

  • might be an idea to speed it up, looks good though

  • Hornsby, nice!

  • boy in 3 years i'm going from seattle to san fransico, san fransico to chicago, chicago to los angeles, los angeles to new orleans and new orleans to atlanta 3 years because amtrak won't let me on a train alone untill age 15=(

  • Piacere* Fantastico e bello!!!

  • bonito video . saludos desde monterrey mexico. good for choosing bruce horsnby.. nice. music. greetings from MONTERREY , MEXICO.

  • The place is Glenwood Canyon in Colorado. The train is heading east towards Denver. The river is the Colorado River.

The song in "The Way it is" by Bruce Hornsby and the Range.

  • where is the places?

  • Next year, I'm taking the Zephyr through the Rockies. I can't wait!!!

  • I,m not sure of the title of the song, but the guy that sings it is from late 80,s early ninety's. His name is. I think the name of the song is,. That's Just The Way It Is. OH The singer is,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, Bruce Hornsby.. It took me awhile but at least I got the singers name. This is for the Fiew that were wondering. smwokie60.

  • I love the music with the train running. Pa Mal

  • I would love to take Amtrak's California Zephyr thru Glenwood Canyon. The drive on I-70 is just beautiful.

  • I would love to go next summer but will probably go this coming Dec because of work will permit me to take a week off

  • nice video

  • That's weird. In Montana everything east of the continental divide is nothing. No trees, not many plants. Just dirt

  • Magical. I explored the southwest a couple of years ago by car. Never knew a train route existed through it ! I'll take this one next time. There is just something about train travel. Does the route go by national parks ? Would it be possible to catch a bus or something to the parks from the train stops ?

  • Hello from 1 month ago, To answer your questions, yes and yes. The Zephyr goes through the middle of the US, and the Empire Builder goes across the northern US border, (passing by Glacier National Park) and the South West Chief goes just south of the grand canyon. Its a great way to go if you've got the time.

  • hi, what is the title of the song?

    nice video!

  • Now...imagine this same trip at 125-180 MPH. It could be this gorgeous *AND* take you somewhere quickly and comfortably.

Support your local High Speed Rail project. :-)

  • We're taking our kids on this train in June. Based on this video and a couple of others I've seen, I cannot wait. I've taken the Empire Builder between Montana and Spokane as well. My son's a train enthusiast. I think I'll spend half this journey with tears in my eyes next to him!

  • why would you cry

  • I'm planning on taking this trip (westbound). Do you think it's the really worth it? What is the highlight of the route?

  • best train journey of my life,

spent last summre travelling America on amtrak, had some great times,

  • Ration and proportion wise how much of the trip is in this fantastic scenery verses midwest flatland ? I know it goes up over the rockies but apart from that mountain scenery there how much of this trip would ya' think is actually up in thre mountain or hilly country ? Coming west how far from Chicago before the sights get really "out there is nowhere land" interesting?

  • The scenery is gorgeous from Denver all the way west at least to Grand Junction. It's heavily wooded east of the Continental Divide (you go under it at the Moffat Tunnel just east of Winter Park), and then it's stark and steep (this video) from Winter Park to Grand Junction - runs along the Colorado River most of the western part. A gorgeous trip.

  • "(this video) from Winter Park to Grand Junction - runs along the Colorado River most of the western part. A gorgeous trip."

That's what i though. I live in Oregon but have been down both I70, and the rails that follow through that corridor more times than i can remember. I was like "HEY! that looks familiar." lol.

  • This video brings back some nice memories from my trip on the Zephyr!

  • in a few weeks my wife and i will be riding the zephyr all the way to emeryville...... from naperville il. beautiful scenery in the winter, especially the mts. this will be trip # 9 or 10 for us.best way to go is by deluxe sleeper.

  • Very nice vid. I road through there on the westbound Zephyr number 5 in the year 2004. Quite a trip especially the view of the Rockies from the Sightseer Lounge. BTW: What is the name of this background song? Nice music in this vid as well.

  • What part of the ride is this from?

  • eastbound, glenwood canyon

  • Whoa. I grew up just west of there (Rulison CO).

    Lovely footage.
