@axotioaxo from what i can see the problem seems that he wants to bend his knees to grab for the hammer, but the pressurized suit is too stiff. because of the low gravitational force on the moon the suit is also much lighter, so it doesn't help him a lot. that's why he's jumping, to get more downforce to bend the knees.
i guess the reson why he doesn't just do a "push-up" kinda move is because he doesn't want to damage the camera in front of his chest.
there are satellites that can easily find out that charles did, they could of done so many better things with their time on there... like play some golf.
Its like a decade was pulled from the 21st century and plugged into the 1960s. Amazing achievement. A shame this country could never pull of something like that today - too many dependent illiterates and quota / entitlement people. Back then it was scientists with slide rules who came out of the public school system (before gubmt take over). Today, they can't read let alone graduate.
It still astonishes me that people were actually on the moon. I don't mean to play the devil's advocate with conspiracy theories like Apollo videos are usually plagued with, but I just can't quite wrap my mind around it yet, and it's been over 40 years! I can't wait to see some sweet video footage of future expeditions like the ISS residents share. :)
@KittySN You should rent and watch "The Wonder of It All." It is a documentary that includes interesting interviews with Buzz Aldrin, Edgar Mitchell, Charles Duke, Eugene Cernan and others. It would take incredible acting abilities to fake the love, excitement and deep personal appreciation shared by these astronauts.
@KittySN I'm with you on the new footage. That's probably the one reason I didn't like the Constellation Program ending. Can you imagine the HIGH DEFINITION footage they would have not just in pictures but video?!? Those pictures would be A-FREAKIN-MAZING LOL! :)
@SunJayRoy How is it pointless? At that time, we had no understanding of layer composition. If you know a better way to to find out, I'm sure scientists would love to know.

why is it so hard for him to pick the hammer?
axotioaxo 6 months ago
@axotioaxo because they forgot to sow space grade velecro into the palms
docatomics 6 months ago
@axotioaxo because the suits were so stiff it was hard for them to bend completely, and also their EVA suits were extremely top heavy.

long story short: we need better suits =)

In what way is taking a core sample of the lunar regolith pointless?
I'm sure there were many many geologists at the time who would disagree strongly.
