@JohnPurchaseArt Good luck on a new chapter in your life--fortunately, I never moved far from my roots, and every now and then I return to my old stomping grounds, so to speak, to rekindle fond memories. @mrcatlicks The murders werent discovered til 1994. This song was written around 1983. Morissey must have been an accessory to murder then? Plain stupid or just a sick joke?

@robertvernon88 That's rubbish, there are many good artists out there today if you know where to look for them. Perhaps there aren't any good artists in the charts, but its underground and indie music where the talent of today lies.
@NotoriousMannk, giggles FREEDOM. I met a person wearing a shirt with FREEDOM on it from Manchester. I haven't seen anyone else wear a shirt like that. Maybe it's about time....thanks for the uproarious saying.
The Smiths are my favourite band and I've just recorded an acoustic version of This Charming Man, please check it out on my profile and let me know what you think!
I love all sorts of music but ever since I got into The Smiths back in 1983 their light never dims.....every time I come back to them they always seem so fresh! Lyrics that every generation can relate to and music that acts like the comfiest arm chair for the lyrics to sit on ! Wonderful !
I have stopped complaining about commercially sucsessful artists that I dont like....because I realize is part of the freedoom of expression and if we did,nt had it we could not find the good music too. So I dont care if the next famous painter ,paints with shit his canvasses and people buys it as long as other artists get their work done too,,thanx for youtube!!
To be fair, "most" music from the 80's sucked too. We just managed to ditch the bullshit and carry the classics. It will happen again with what's popular now. There's some incredible music out there. And some of it is Kings of Coldplay and the Jonas Biebers.
This song aches beautifully, Morrissey & Marr perfectly complimenting each other, but conjuring up such a wistful reflection on the Old House and what didn't happen.
when i was 8 i was into metal at 11 punk rock hardcore. etc. ever since heavier music . but i have always loved this song, this band this moz man...i used to be embarrassed , but now embracing , its still relevant and as beautiful as the first day i heard it ....
Morrisseys poignant lyrics set against Marr's wonderfully flowing riffs and chords will last the test of time. Simply because the music is timeless and the words echo feelings that we all feel at some point in our life's. And this will be true.....generation after generation!
Morrissey has one of the most depressing voices ever man lol, but its a huge part of the charm, and during time where everyone sounded all happy chappy, it was pretty bold and kl.
Why is it that EVERY time I watch a video of some old song I love, there's always some guy on a soapbox, bitching about "modern music"? And they always, always mention either Lady Gaga, Justin Bieber, or the Jonas brothers. God, shut up. First of all, there are plenty of great new bands. Secondly, and I'm assuming none of us are twelve here....Bieber and that stuff isn't FOR US!! Let the kiddies have their music and listen to what you like. Christ!
@MckyMseNTarotCrds Quite right. Although I have to say, I've been listening to The Smiths since before I could walk... But I guess I have my parents to thank for that.
Very interesting to see how the modern corporate fascist controlled culture inserts itself. On any given music video,no matter what genre you will inevitably see a great # of comments on justin bieber.Usually they are calling for his death but never the less, this is where the average persons consciousness is at.They are so engulfed in bullshit primarily from t.v exposer that even when watching a artist that they enjoy, their still focused on mundane corporate garbage designed to dull the mind.sad
@TheManolakis Yeah its sad. i have a friend who I discuss Nietzsche, Debord, Marx and postmodernism w/. he's a film student, we go to raves together, do acid etc. YET he can't help but constantlycomplain about "hipsters" and "kids who wear neon and listen to Ke$ha". I told him he thinks in the sam terms as a suit. he didnt respond haha
you listen to this song and you really wish morrissey and marr would just get back together. marr is wasting his time with the cribs honestly, they will never write the beautiful music that the smiths wrote. the singer is brutal and marr just simply wants to be in a band. even if the morrisey and marr reformed and got a new drummer and bass player. i know it would be asking too much to have them all together again but even marr and morrissey. someday...
@MrHankscorpio100 I would rather there was no reunion than just Morrissey and Marr with a couple of session musicians, unless those musicians were Rick Buckler and Bruce Foxton or Steve Jansen and Mick Karn. I am of course taking the piss but both Morrissey and Paul Weller referred to their former rhythm sections as being virtual hired hands and David Sylvian implied the same when Japan, including keyboardist Richard Barbieri reformed as Rain tree crow. For me it's all or nothing!
Most young people are incredibly ignorant and don't appreciate originality at all. ALL mainstream music today is crap. My idiot peer was even ignorant enough to laugh at Morrissey's singing! For christs sake they are f****** idiots! This song means more than all the mass produced corporate bollocks that we hear today. This song can actually make people feel emotion! Tis a brilliant song!

Most modern music sucks. Nobody will remember Justin Bieber/Jonas Brothers and shit like that in ten years, but this, this fantasic song and many others are printed into our very souls.
@JohnWLennon1980 And How they shaped music, and are still doing today....as Moz said many years ago."popular music is dead, and the ashes are around us,i think this really is the end" so, so, true.
@JohnWLennon1980 The music is fine, but the lyrics are so ... humdrum ... this is not like william blake's poetry you know... this is commercial music after all... yawn ...
@JohnWLennon1980 actually ya know what, I think people will. Just like people remember Glam Rock of the 80's more then they remember terrific 80's alternative. People will always remember the popular artist more, I think...
@JohnWLennon1980 i think people will remember but they will be slightly embarressed they listened to that crap, i had the same experience with bros.. moz forever!
@JohnWLennon1980 music is the soundtrack to our lives, so unfortunately people will still remember bieber in 10 years. fortunately not everyone buys into that so they are the lucky ones, there is probably a few 10 year olds listening to this instead!
@JohnWLennon1980 The talent pool has really dried up. Just stupid ass rap or some no-talent pretty boy or girl pushed up there just to dance around and "look good". The current teenage or young generation is damn near brain dead to buy todays so-called music.
@Xcorgi The talent pool hasn't dried up, you've just got to know where to look for it. ;) There are still plenty of excellent artists out there. And, quite honestly, I think there have been false, manufactured pop 'singers' who are only there to look good since the beginning of music. Our young generation is in poor shape, yes, but don't count us all out. I'm 14, and my friends and I love The Smiths.
Yes, I think they are the best ever, with Joy Division almost on a par. Each of their studio albums was perfect in its own way. I'm relieved they don't get back together, it's a big risk, they could have lost the magic and not click, they worked wonderfully together but that was 25 years ago and it could damage their iconic status and destroy the myth to try now. In some way you could compare it to what happened with the Only Fools and Horses comebacks. But then again, what the hell do I know
@Iberotimuka I remember liking a couple of Joy Division songs but had no idea anyone would compare them with The Smiths. If you could please list some of their best for me i'm always looking for stuff I missed (i didn't discover The Smiths until after they broke up) Thanks
It's sad to realize they no longer share the same joy of being together as we can see on those nice old pics. It would be wonderful if they could put their differences behind for their own happiness and for the music sake. They are, surely, one of the best bands in this world.
The Smiths....my favorite band! I say they are the best band! Morrissey definitely knows how to sing and write sincere songs. He is an amazing person. The Smiths will never get old!
@Slapbass13 Gannon was a excellent replacement IMO he was great because he was not "big" and by big I mean famous. Not to mention he is an excellent musician. I've always felt that Moz should have used Gannon instead of Alain. I'm not sure what Moz's feelings on Gannon currently are however.
Moz is the best, whenever i'm down he knows how to get right into my soul ...
this is such a great tune , but for all the great fans here i recomend to try " The String Quartet Tribute To Smiths" - rendition to "please please let get " ...you can really sing your heart out ,a real treat :-)
all time favorite smiths song.

@JohnWLennon1980 And How they shaped music, and are still doing today....as Moz said many years ago."popular music is dead, and the ashes are around us,i think this really is the end" so, so, true.

@dwy07 I really hope its not the end

@JohnWLennon1980 The music is fine, but the lyrics are so ... humdrum ... this is not like william blake's poetry you know... this is commercial music after all... yawn ...

@JohnWLennon1980 actually ya know what, I think people will. Just like people remember Glam Rock of the 80's more then they remember terrific 80's alternative. People will always remember the popular artist more, I think...

Xcorgi 7 months ago

But then again, what the hell do I know
Iberotimuka 1 year ago 4

Would any die hard Smiths fans like to comment on Craig Gannon?
Slapbass13 1 year ago
@Slapbass13 Gannon was a excellent replacement IMO he was great because he was not "big" and by big I mean famous. Not to mention he is an excellent musician. I've always felt that Moz should have used Gannon instead of Alain. I'm not sure what Moz's feelings on Gannon currently are however.

Wow, never knew this version! It´s beautiful - fretless bass - or just chorus effects?

Moz is the best, whenever i'm down he knows how to get right into my soul ...
this is such a great tune , but for all the great fans here i recomend to try " The String Quartet Tribute To Smiths" - rendition to "please please let get " ...you can really sing your heart out ,a real treat :-)
