Are there anymore LC state videos? I want to see what they are doing now...crzy how all of the drill teams look like them now. Who would have thought.
The scoring system at State changed a couple of years ago. It's a strange system, ordinals. From what I learned my last 2 years on the team was that you could have a higher score than other teams but the judges could award the "places/trophies" to teams that scored lower. For example in 2007 my senior yr. we scored a 454 in Drill and another team scored a 451, they were awarded 3rd, we got nothing. Strange
I think that's meant to account for judging bias... That way the "best" team doesn't lose their trophy because some judges were too stingy/generous with their scores for whatever reason (used to be on the team, etc.).
It's just such a strange system to me, it almost got to a point for me where I didn't see the point in competing. I just feel that if you get higher points, it should be awarded that way. I'm also pretty sure that you can't be a judge if you were on the team in the past.
Well, it's a system that I don't think I'll ever fully understand or like. haha
i love the routine but it doesnt look like it takes much energy, just a bunch of memorizing and corrdinating arm movements, is that what a drill team is? cuz im on dance team and its nothing like this
traditionally, drill is about moving groups of people across the floor in precise ways using various kinds of marching steps. at any moment during the routine, wherever someone is, they are meant to be exactly there according to the choreography. traditionally.
it may look like it doesnt take energy because its our goal to make it look easy. if we look like we get tired or a move is hard for us to do, its not only poor showmanship but poor execution. each move is hit with precision and sharpness and BELIEVE ME, it takes a LOT of energy and endurance
oh no its cool you didnt seem rude at all and that wasnt my intention either. but this is probably way easier than ballet or jazz or contemporary or any other dance like that.
in WA, drill has always been more about visual effect and choreographic ingenuity than difficulty, although there is a difficulty component and the bar for it raises every year (and like vanilla16price said, if it were easy to have perfect timing/formations and stay sharp, every team would do it). there are already more than enough performance art traditions in the U.S. that emphasize difficulty, so i can stand to wait a few more years before drill turns into a leap/extension-fest.
I remember watching this from the sidelines, because we were 3A and performing the next day and I just that it was the coolest routine I've ever seen. Question: Are they still allowed to wear those masks? I know a lot of rules have changed, like Sammamish isn't allowed to do the body drop anymore...

P.S. I wish we would use the mask more often! They have such a great effect!

The mask is amazing, as are the hoods... I dunno why the team dropped them in recent years! It's such an integral part of LC's x-factor.

hohoho1992 3 years ago
this is a really cool routine. i know that they got first in the kick category but didn't they get 5th at state this year in the drill category?

actually i think body drops are (re?)allowed but they need to be modified a little. i saw it in the 2008 online WIAA rules clinic.
jpistoff 3 years ago
Really? I think the last time SHS did it was in 1999-2000 not sure...maybe I can find it and put in on here...

kathlob320 5 years ago
sweeeet routine haha. 2 questions :: 1) wat state is this in... and 2) do you have to walk on liek that ... or did your team just make that up?
kathlob320 5 years ago
this took place in washington state. each team usually has a unique way of walking on.
