  • Two great artists, tho...awesome performance!

  • I don't know, but I think Jerry done blew Chet away...

  • @Louie1157able --he'd better on that song, he wrote it. in the end every one including jerry knew chet was king

  • @toejam498 Point taken! Bet Jerry felt priviledged to be on the same stage with Chet!

Two great Country and Western talents.

  • @Louie1157able --totally

  • @Louie1157able Yeah maybe.Jerry's more of a "knock down drag 'em out" kinda player in this one. Chet is more of a "sophisticated" player in this one. They are both great though R.I.P.

  • 0:01 to 1:50 is pure genius.

  • Who else but Chet Atkins could sweep with a thumb pick. Seriously? You can't beat these two guys together.

  • These guys are my inspiration. Thanks for posting the video.

  • Sweep Picking @1:13 :OOOOOOO

  • God bless the USA!

And all pickers near and far!!!

  • 'ah luhve that' too!

  • I can't believe this has 77 dislikes! These two are amazing guitarist!

  • I've never been proouder to be a caucasian.

  • two greats......................chet is a true master...jerry ain't bad either. The two of them was a real treat but chet is by far the better guitarist. Jerry Reed is a great song writer and guitar player but Chet Atkins is one of the greatest guitar playlers ever.......very cool to see them together....pick it on!

  • @dahughes44 Jerry composed this and many of Chet's music.

  • Are you here for the 'guitar class'? You've just found it. Your teachers will be Mr. Chet Atkins and Mr. Jerry Reed. It doesn't get any better than this, pupils. You'll be humbled to be in their presence. Remember this 'session' - it won't come around, live, again. And, consider yourselves fortunate, and blessed, to have them around.

  • chet and jerry will allways b the best.but check out wesley crider playing the jerry buster it is awsome.

  • So nice to hear sweep picking without a wall of distortion behind it.

  • I want that hat!

  • SMOKIN !! Thanks, love the hat at the end.

  • Comment removed

  • jerry held his own there

  • It doesn't get any better than this.

  • This kind of entertainment was always on in my house growing up. I was too young and stupid to realize what I was seeing and apreciate it. Thank God for youtube.

  • Time for a beer after that one you two legends !

  • Great video of two incredible guitarists. Alot of people don't know just how great a musician and guitar player Jerry Reed was. They only remember him from the roles he played in moves.

  • and a shirt....

  • need to get me a hat like jerry's....

  • I guess if there were a heaven these two might be jammin huh?

  • pure Love

  • And then Chet said, "yeah, i was doing sweeps before any of those metal fags!"

  • miss you Guitar Man

  • i think it was jerry...

  • i just heard some guy yell at 0:17 what the F***

  • So sweet! Smooth lick at 1:10

  • 1:08 to 1:25 is pure genius

  • @KirkHammett131290 ...goddamn right it is...whew!..hes burnin that thing up

  • Comment removed

  • these guys are my heroes, check out my videos when you get the chance

  • 1:11 just fits exactly in.

  • Jerry IS a hero.

  • Someone help me. I can't stop waching this. I wanted to have a house and children in some time, but I'm stuck with this video so I can forget my plans and just watch it for the rest of my life. Thanks Chet and Jerry.

  • @KirkHammett131290 try to be like jerry by learning to play this song, find a girl, lay song in front of here, have sex, get house, get children and continue to watch this video

  • Hats off to two of my favs.....Reed was so under-rated...he served as a studio musician for years and because of his great personality hollywood took notice....

  • First of all, it's JERRY Reed ! Yes, on TV back from the 60's to 80's, it was pure talent that got you anywhere, not smoke machines, 5000 lights in your eyes ! Chet's suit & polka dot shirt, look at Jerry's hot outfit ! They didn't need sheet music, 50 piece orchestra etc. Just played great music. Bring back shows like HEE HAW ! These guys were in a class all to themselves !! Years of great entertainment by great musicians. And then the comedy of Jerry Clower !

  • the thing that blows my face off is that I assume this was on tv. can you imagine turning on tv today and seeing something like this? now its all shit

  • This mutha fucka be sweepin',

  • Amazing... the vai and satriani of their time!

  • I love it

  • How cool is this video? Awesome stuff.

  • I guess it's fare to say that Jerry Reed was the best unplugged guitarist of all time, this single guy sounds like a band. Jerry was also a great singer,he could sing the bird's out of the tree's.

But ya know what! NOBODY had a personality like Gerry Reed,he was full of life and fun and never held back. Anyone who ever played with him, were simply a lucky passenger being taken on the best musical ride of their life.

Thank God for youtube, now we can all share he's MAGIC!

  • When you know just the first 3 seconds of Chet part, you can talk.

But before that ... respect those missed artists.

  • That was great! Thanks for uploading this...

  • masters

  • i loved this when i was a kid and love it even more now!!

  • Jerry Reed hotpicker from way back...he was awesome!

  • Very good guitars players indeed.

  • Awesome!!!

  • Where can u buy clothes like that?

  • @tehpwn3dlife At the place where, unlike now, your talent matters more than what you look like.

  • truly amazing... rest in peace jerry reed / "snowman"

  • ohh shit!! This is a real good music played by real good musicians

  • Sweep picking has been around since the 20's guys (jazz)...almost 100 years now. It wasn't Chet or any speed metal guy that invented it. However, good lord can Chet pick, talk about Mr. Clean and Jerry just wrote the best tunes.

  • @steveshowse Sweep picking has been done for that long but it wasn't until Gambale in the 80's harnessed it and broke out of the two or 3 note sweeps...

  • @steveshowse i mean to be honest he isn't really sweep picking in this song since he's finger picking and not really using hammer-ons and pull ofs

  • @jckido Sweep picking is about the motion and use of the pick. Wether you hammer or pull notes with the other hand is up to you.

  • @steveshowse that's what i'm saying. he isn't doing the motion or using a pick like that...

  • wow, chets part is almost feasible to play but jerry's arrangement here is utterly ridiculous

  • these guys were so made for the 70's I know there still relevent but they looked so cool back then

  • The music they made is matched only by the fun they had making it! Why don't musicians laugh and have fun when playing together anymore? It's like a damn competition. Chet and Jerry were buddies and loved playing music together and it showed. Thanks to the world wide web we can still have fun watching these two masters do what they did best. Enjoy their God given talents. This clip should have 20 million hits, not just 2 million.

  • CGP !!

  • @satori802 i guess you've never listened to Junior Brown??? you should check him out, this kind of musicianship is NOT dead...

  • jerry looks like hes trying so hard and chet looks like this is another day at the office. jerrys hanging in there, though--- great track.

  • The Band Primus got me to looks up Jerry Reed and wow! that was amazing!

  • I am a better and more complete person for having watched this.

  • @OracleOrthros same here

  • @OracleOrthros why wouldnt you?

  • @OracleOrthros u pwn at internet.

  • @OracleOrthros Couldn't have put it better. I keep coming back to this video and I like it better every time I watch it. That they end on exactly the same run and note--icing on the cake. Two masters totally in sync--whenever do you see that? "Aw, I *love* that!" We do, too!

  • id say 70's were the peak of the music world, and then it just went down hill, the faster down, then faster, then beiber was born.

  • It all went to hell when those polka dotted shirts went out of style.

  • so much talent.....

  • the alabama man of burt reynolds' dreams.

  • Jerry Reed was a master on a guitar. In early 70`s he and Big Jim Sullivan of England played together and you could see the admiration they had for each other. No telling how many rock and roll players seen this on TV in the 70`s and learned. Chet Atkins was always known for his guitar ability and it wasn`t long before Jerry Reed was up there with him. These guys likely forgot more about the guitar than most players will ever know. It`s hard to play with speed and feeling as these guys could.

  • @satori802

    yep

  • Wow... I had no idea Jerry was a beast

  • @mynamespitt oh yea, he was unreal on a guitar

  • WOW WOW WOW! HAT'S OFF. Trying to explain how good these guys are,is dam near impossible. How blessed are we that we can simply click onto these videos and watch the greatest guitarists of all time.

    WOW!

  • @satori802 Wow! satori802! Best comment on youTube. Best comment ever in the history of man-kind!

  • Damn! I'm speechless!

  • @satori802

Yeah I agree ,but you are just halfway right. There are lots of people coming close to this ! Insane guitarists and nice musicians! There is still "real music" out there ,but the people just dont realise it because its not on TV ! There are people noone knows and nobody will ever see in the media though they can play better guitar than Reed , Atkins , Hendrix etc. Its just sad how the mainstream ruined it ):!

  • @satori802 Amen to that! I play guitar, but could never do 1,000th of the stuff these two guys could do. I cried the day I heard that Chet died..awesome talent!

  • Unreal. This is what God listens to.

  • what a combo wow..

I met Chet atkins' wife in hollywood at a music store not long before he passed away and Jerry reed i think I will go find his version of goodnight irene may they both rest in bliss.. wonderful performers both thx for posting !!

  • awesome

  • So much awesome in under 2:00.

  • Sweep picking? Finger-tapping? Chet was doing both long, long before Randy or Eddie.

  • These boys are working them necks and frits. LOVIN IT

  • two of the best

  • I have to ask a question and it is not meant to offend his fan base nor degrade the talent of Chet Atkins, but I heard tell he was homosexual, ....Just wondering........Please, no stones..!

  • @iditarod9 He was married for 45 years to the same women (Leona) a former singer. I think he had one daughter. Being married that long would lead me to believe he was hetrosexual

  • @SothrenMan ) Thats what I hoped, because we have enough queers in the world..! Too bad he's gone, nobody had his extreme talent with a guitar. Many great guitar players but none like him!

  • @iditarod9 We have more than enough bigots.

  • @fjohnson747 ) Bigot in your view and maggot haters in my view........the reason I wanted to know if Atkins was a queer was after I viewed his Orange Blossom Special tune and that tall blond homo harmonica player tried to kiss him on the ear......

  • @iditarod9 Would you consider Chet Atkins any less of a musician if he were gay? What's the source of your hatred toward gays?

  • @fjohnson747 ) I wouldn't even have listened to him if he would have been a queer! I hate all things vile.........

  • @iditarod9 Do you hate gays of both genders? Gay women - lesbians - as well as men?

  • @fjohnson747 ) Hate is actually a misnomer! I detest homosexuals of any type, race, creed or origin and any sexual proclivity they practice and believe the world would be far better off without any of them. They defile the very natural order of the universe with their lifestyle and actually should be classified as a third species on the planet. They can in no way be refereed to as man or woman. They need to be subjugated and quarantined to their own little Gay Island......

  • @iditarod9 I was just thinking about this subject the other day. Read your post here and thought I might share with you something that just occured to me. Is it really the sexual part of being gay or is it the traits? For example, I can't stand to be around hetero men who are too manly or hetero females who are too feminine and vice versa. Your thoughts?

  • @ole9421) You mention men who are too manly, are you alluding to the John Wayne, Clint Eastwood, and other one-man army types depicted in the movies? I prefer women who are physical active and not afraid to get their hands soiled but can't cannot tolerate the in "your face women" nor the ones who cry at the least little inconvenience. The sexual part of being homosexual definitely is the proverbial straw as far as I'm concerned and in no way an acceptable lifestyle to be taught in our schools!

  • @iditarod9 Nah, the Eastwood or Wayne manliness doesn't bother me. I was thinking more like the guys and gals on that Jersey Shore reality program. You know, the muscle heads and prissy bitch type. Who a person screws doesn't bother me anymore. I don't believe you can teach who your sexually attracted to. Homosexuality has always been a part of nature. In fact, if homosexuality is on the rise I think it might simply be natures way of saying, "there's too many of you".

  • @iditarod9 I do feel the need to apologize to fellow youtubers who never expected to find this sort of conversation on a Jerry Reed video. I wouldn't have guessed it either. Sorry, probably should have discussed this through private messages.

  • @ole9421 ) No need to apologize for these comments, I asked a simple ? that gave me concern and from there it ballooned. By all means, lets get back to the music..........!

  • Jerry loves to work the Chet.

  • Wow Jerry's a genius..Yes i know Chets one too!Miss them both.Glad I got to see them live.Not together tho.

  • @satori802 It is my contention that good, honest music in all its guises has always been played and will continue to be played in perpetuity. The sad reality is that quality musicians are no longer being supported by the multinational corporations/major labels that have the resources to saturate the marketplace and dominate traditional media with the tasteless pulp that passes for popular music these days. You just have to dig a little deeper to find it, but I promise you it's still out there.

  • @gdball25 Yeah, because that's what the people pay for. It's always about where the money is.

  • @satori802 I do really like chet atkins music and as a guitar player I think he is one of those players who set a mile stone in the development of the electric guitar, but he was also one of the people who tried to commercialize music with his "nashville sound" and tried to make "country music" marketable to people who liked pop music by takig the rough edges off with strings and by insisting singers where backed by the band he picked in the studio, that said, he was still a great ,musician

  • i never knew jerry was that good

  • Those guys are national treasures.

  • Jerry and Chet just knew how to use the invisible M (Musicianship, Mastery, Magnificence and Magic) string. A true inspiration!

  • @belzlucek You forgot MOTHERFUCKING TALENT!!

  • For anyone who thought sweep picking was a new technique...Ceht is the man!

  • It's replicant Rutger Hauer picking!!!

  • sweet :D

  • Love the pickin' - and the 70's collars..

  • Guitargasm :D 0:29

  • Comment removed

  • The best part? These guys are just messing around.

  • @satori802 it's there, like always, but you have to look for it. Don't look to the mainstream media to give it to you. I play with guys like this, and they love passing it down to the youngsters. Don't give up hope. True masters like Chet Atkins and Jerry Reed are rare, but that's what makes them great. Just because a performer is "popular" doesn't make them the best there is available. You have to look for true gems.

  • Pure fun! Thank you so much for posting!

  • Jesus...Chet and Jerry. Two real guitar asskickers. Impressive indeed!

  • Jerry is probably doing this in the key of E. I have done foggy mountain breakdown in G. But it is probably best to do it in E. I am currently working on

this classic cascade type song and I have most of it down. I am down to just my electric right now but I hope to illustrate it soon on troubleshooter321 on my You tube channel.

  • That was the most beautiful thing I have ever seen. *Sniff*........So beautiful.

  • does anyone know what tuning jerrys playing in??

  • i can't bealive i wasn't born soon enough to see a concert from these genius

  • 2 Masters right here.

  • barney kessell was doing major bombastic sweep-picking in the 50's.

or, check out chet's recordings with ravi shankar in the 60's for ground-breaking sweep-picking (talk about a unique pairing)

    i love all these musicians

  • Sweep-picking done right
