@lilceazy87 input gain has to be matched with the headunit you use and at a specific volume where you set it at.
the EQ settings i change back and forth alot, since i use it on my 18" and my sealed type X. basically what you want to do is fill in the gaps where your subwoofer falls off. my type X for example in my trans am, falls off in the 43-47 hz area. i add just enough boost in that area for it to sound normal without any dips or peaks.

@stude327 because upping the bass boost adds all kinds of distortion, especially from the headunit. you match your gain on the amp according to what voltage your headunit puts out. set your crossover at least below 80hz turn the bass boost off and your subsonic filter around 10-20ish. Do you know how to tune a car amplifier?
@blazinloud it adds distortion to an extent, which is measurable with a mulitmeter.
as far as matching the gain, i realize that. it was not done yet in this video.
crossover is more of a preference dude. i leave the amp crossover at 100hz, the HU has built in crossover from 125 to 78, combining the crossovers leaves the first one at just under 100, ect.
usually i keep the filter at 20hz.

@playap3211991, My Alpine amp has 80 amps worth of fuses as well, and does 1087 watts. A 80 amp fuse won't blow at 80 amps like you think. A fuse does not blow when the current reaches its rated current. It is designed to pass its rated current WITHOUT opening. A fuse will take varying times to blow under different conditions. A fuse will pass significantly more than its rated current for a very short time. It may take 10 minutes or more to blow a fuse at 25% over its rated current.

Hi there just wondering as i can see you all know what your talking about, whether you could reccomend me a clear, powerfull subwoofer for less or equal to £150 for my Car. Im currently looking a pioneer products but im sure you guys might know of a superior brand/product that is more powerfull than any of theres.
Pioneers are pretty good. I had a couple in my Tacoma. They were the TS-W308D4. They hit pretty hard with a Rockford Fosgate 1001bd amp. There are way better subs, but not for the price. I got mine on ebay, $160 shipped for both. Great thing with them is they are VERY inexpensive. You usually get what you pay for, but these have held up for some time, and I run them hard.

Go Pioneer. Unless you want to spend $700USD for a professional SQ headunit, then stick with a simple Pioneer headunit. Some of them have a 7-band equalizer that allow you to widen or narrow the band. Also most Pioneer HUs have a HPF and a LPF, so you can eliminate below 100hz from going to your door speakers and above 100hz from going to your subs, giving a clear distribution of bass to your subs, midrange to your door speakers, and treble to your tweeters (if you have any).
Also, a lot of newer Pioneer model headunits have USB ports built in, a phono jack as an auxiliary input, and mp3 playback ability through compact disc media. Personally for the price, I don't think any other brand of head unit gives as good of sound quality as Pioneer. Good luck to whatever you choose to stuff in your car! And cheers bro!

eqs on the HU were on, not sure the freq or anything, and sub level @ HU was at max, +10, but on the amp itself it was zero'd on everything.

Also both of the amps you listed are of higher power.
You have more power loss when creating current as high as 4000wRMS, hence why the fuses are so big.

Kicker amps = HORRIBLY INEFFICIENT, that's why they need such large fuses. Alpine makes their wattage, as well as a whole slew of other amps that pass the CEA rating. Pioneers are pretty good. I had a couple in my Tacoma. They were the TS-W308D4. They hit pretty hard with a Rockford Fosgate 1001bd amp. There are way better subs, but not for the price. I got mine on ebay, $160 shipped for both. Great thing with them is they are VERY inexpensive. You usually get what you pay for, but these have held up for some time, and I run them hard.

cheers, also do you know if say a £100Headunit (player) will output a better, cleaner sound than a £60 headunit? Im just wondering as im not sure if there is higher grade technology for playing back cds and music in more expensive units or your just paying extra for things like ipod jack e.t.c Ive heard there are special codec enhancers on sony headunits? is there any exquivalent on other brand cd players? Most of my music collection is in 320kbps mp3 btw so i will be using USB alot. Cheers

Go Pioneer. Unless you want to spend $700USD for a professional SQ headunit, then stick with a simple Pioneer headunit. Some of them have a 7-band equalizer that allow you to widen or narrow the band. Also most Pioneer HUs have a HPF and a LPF, so you can eliminate below 100hz from going to your door speakers and above 100hz from going to your subs, giving a clear distribution of bass to your subs, midrange to your door speakers, and treble to your tweeters (if you have any).

Also, a lot of newer Pioneer model headunits have USB ports built in, a phono jack as an auxiliary input, and mp3 playback ability through compact disc media. Personally for the price, I don't think any other brand of head unit gives as good of sound quality as Pioneer. Good luck to whatever you choose to stuff in your car! And cheers bro!

JL is good, but RE does better for less. but both rank high in quality. you really cant go wrong with JL or RE

the L7 has 15 MM of one way X.
a cheap RE SE 12 has 18, and the 1000wRMS SX series has 22, 44 both ways.
and the XXX has a class leading 54mm, 108 each way.
nothing comes close to RE audio.
that and sound quality... sound is round. plain and simple.

thats the old 2006 model. the 08s are more expensive, but i bought this b4 the 08s came out.
the 06s are even cheaper now, you can get one off eBay for 200 shipped.
its getting replaced with either a 15" RE SX or an 18", depending on how crazy i wanna get.
