OH MY! I grew up watching this man sing at my home Church in Fort Worth, I was starstruck and in awe at his voice. He TOTALLY inspired me to become the singer I am today! AMAZING!!!
Have you ever heard him sing this with the Gaither group? Awesome! His voice got much richer and deeper with age. I'm not just saying that because we share the same name either!!! : )
I like how John Hall acts out the character of God to show the audience how big God is, with the use of that leading resonant bass, not to mention John Hall is big and tall too.
Big John Hall is a real bass and a great human being. He could have been a great operatic bass if he had been directed that way. He simply has great talent. I got to know him when he was much older and count him as a dear. dear friend. Great to see him young here. Whoever said a bass can't be a lead singer is a little nuts. When you have John Hall you HAVE a leader.
Some great piano playing from one of Gospel music's most tlented AND under-rated pianists - Mr. Whitey Gleason. He is right there with the singers - never misses a beat!
@chowman007 If God had chosen a path for him other than music, I bet he would have been an amazing football player. Just look at the size of that man!
If you compare him to James and then look at James compared to JD and London on other videos, I think you're right on the money. JD and London were both 6'5" - 6'6" and he's got a couple of inches on them. He's a big man for sure. And a booming voice.
Berry Lindsey...I have been listening to gospel music since I was 7 years old and I am 68 now...All I can say in How Big Is God does more for my heart and spirit as has any song in that 61 years..The Blackwood and Statesmen will never be equalled by any other groups no matter how hard they try.
Only Arnold Hyles had as powerful a bass voice as Big John Hall, but Hyles did not have the vocal training exhibited by Hall. I have heard Big John fill a large auditorium without amplification. Great singing!
Big John Hall was certainly big and he had a big, full voice. While this line-up is not my favorite, it is a very good line-up. Everything the BBs sang with this line-up sounded so serious.
What a great singer Big John is

John Hall, J. D. Sumner and London Parris. 3 of the all-time greatest Bass singers in one group. I have the LP this song came from. Great!
DavesNotHere56 1 year ago
J.D. might have been the lowest gospel bass singer but big John was the overall best bass singer

Lets not ditch the singers but Praise God for sending Jesus to free us and give us eternal life by accepting Jesus as Lord and saviour.
These old gospel songs never get old I can listen to them for ever

Bass singers should NOT take the lead. It never sounds good no matter how good the singer is.

That's an amusing statement.

Big John is , I believe, 6'8" tall. The last time I saw Big John was in 1967.

I don't remember "Big" John Hall being this slim. He always had one of the fullest bass voices.
