  • @thistlemiss thank you this helped me understand the bridge between in tub out of tub/water touching my gsd. He loves in and out but as soon as I had even a bit of water he started shutting down.

@carlosfunhouse2 its too bad that people with your thought process are allowed to own pets in general. I wish there was more we could do as a community to raise the criteria for owning pets.

  • @untamedxyouth You are welcome...I think I didn't desensitize her as much as I could even...but she does fine in the bath now anyway. :)

  • Dogs and clicker for me its bribing the dog with treats, a dog has to learn to know whos master, if it needs a bath, it has to and no such drama should be made with treats. My doggy when I give her a bath she dont likes it but she knows it comes with the terretory, I adopted her 3 months ago.

  • @carlosfunhouse2 Well, that's sad for both you and your dog. Would you go to work if there were no paycheck at the end of the week? My dogs earn their meals. They work for a living and have a great time doing it. Is this bribery?

  • @thistlemiss Yes

  • @carlosfunhouse2 You would be happy to go to work each day without any paycheck at all?

  • @thistlemiss MY dog is really happy, she just doesnt get a treat every step she makes

  • @carlosfunhouse2 Okay. My dogs earn a high rate as they learn...Then once they learn something, they don't need as many treats....But we can agree to disagree on this one. That's fine.

  • @carlosfunhouse2 I feel sad for your dog. Why does bathing have to be unpleasant just so you can prove how powerful you are? That's just wrong on so many levels. Food is NOT a bribe, used correctly. Properly, it's used either as a reinforcement for good behavior, or it's classical conditioning. If you learn the science behind dog training and behavior, you won't be so quick to fall for the dominance myth.

  • What about just putting a leash and getting their ass in the tub, yeah much faster, lol

  • @carlosfunhouse2 Dragging a dog into a bath tub to me would be like throwing a kid who can't swim into the deep end of the pool. He either will learn to swim, drown, or maybe learn to swim if he's lucky, but hate pools for life.

  • @thistlemiss Well they should teach that kid to float on their backs, everyone knows that.

  • Just take the dog and carry, and get him or her in the tub at once this is not good, I say Princess bath time, carry her ass to tub, and done.

  • Big time awesomeness! Thanks for this video. I might actually try this with my shepherd!

  • @TheExPlOiTeDOne619 Thanks! If your shepherd has any real fear issues about the bath be sure to check out Hunkymonkykaine's great video on the subject too. I think she posted a video response somewhere below.

  • good video!!!!And nice bathroom!!!!!!!!!!!

  • @GrKatia Thanks!

  • Has she ever shaken off water? :g:

  • @cJw314 Yep. She does sometimes. Gotta love those high backed tubs! :)

  • Hi Sarah,

Very nice video. It's been six months, could you describe what level of c/t or rewards you're using for bath-time now?

I'm good at the beginning of the training process, but sometimes I have a hard time know the speed to bank off of rewards. Any thoughts? Where are you now?

    Cheers,

    L

  • Thanks! To be honest, for something potentially icky like a bath, I still tend to pay well. I no longer need to continuously treat her to get her to stand still like you see here though. Now I just might treat a couple times during the bath and jackpot with her entire meal at the end. I never stop thinking in terms of reinforcement. I may add variety to my rewards so it's not always food--but I almost always reward with something.

  • :) I like this..I need to do this with my dog..is Zoe a puppy???

  • Zoë is about 21/2 years old. Thanks!

  • isnt it bad if you give too much treats to your dog

  • No. In this video I am feeding Zoë her meals in the bath tub...so no extra calories there. Perfectly healthy for her. In fact having your dog earn her meals is healthier I think than just putting a full bowl down for free twice a day. :)

  • Great training progression - and great video too!

  • Yes. The clicker builds such confidence I find. The other day I borrowed my mom's big SUV and Zoë did not want to go in at all, but as soon as I got the clicker out, she hopped in in about 45 seconds! Thanks for the comment!

  • Wonderful! I love it so much that Zoe doesn't even want to get out of the bathtub at the end.

  • That was awesome, Sarah! Zoe looks so happy and confident and the editing was perfect. I really need to teach this to my guys!

  • Thank you! Thanks for your advise about the music too. That really helped. --Sarah
