@raquelrefuerzo Yes he has. He is about 40 years old now. And if you search by his name here on Youtube you can´hear and see him as adult singer. Still singing Bach :)
It is my opinion that Christian Immler, Panito Iconomou and Fredric Jost are in rare company as they are examples of the finest boy altos I have ever heard. If there is any boy alto that should be in this exclusive "club", then I would like to know. Each of these altos far surpasses the quality that is reasonably to be expected - for they are truly gems ! :-)

@Boromir33 You can buy Harnoncourts performance of the Johannes Passion from Johann Sebastian Bach with the Tölzer Knabenchor as DVD from Deutsche Grammophon under the Order No. 004400734291 at amazon.com or at the Tölzer Knabenchors homepage in full HD- and hifi quality for only 18€. And, it's a much better investition than in Credit Default Swaps ;)
Just purchased and watched the entire DVD of this performance tonight. Without doubt, the two boy altos stand out as the best arias in this performance, and I don't mean that to lessen anyone else's performance here, but the two altos are just that good! Of course, Equiluz is incredible in his role as Evangelist- what a powerful voice!
Thanks again for posting this and bringing attention to this excellent performance!
Like his colleague in the same concert, Panito Economou, this youngster, Christian, has an extraordinarily beautiful voice that has given me much pleasure since first recording the original concert on vcr sometime in the 80's. And good to note Maestro Harnancout's brief nod at the end. I think that meant 'well done' - and I wouldn't blame him!
Christian Immler had a most remarkable voice. How wonderful that this recording was preserved. Harnoncourt and Concentus Musicus Wien always have impressed me as very high quality as well. Certainly worthy of saving to Favorites and 5 stars.
If by "out of tune" you mean to say that they do not use equal temperament, then I think you are right, but they are in tune as far as baroque oboes go. I personally love the sound of the baroque oboe and prefer it to the modern oboe any day of the week. Modern oboes are too mechanistic. They sound just a little too perfect, and they lose their true character amid all the perfection, if that makes any sense.
What impresses me most is at 3:38 and how he brings power to his voice without strain. I play this for my 11 mo. baby boy to expose him to musical excellence, he is crying now because it stopped.
Ehh now that I've heard the video more than 10 times (I love it!! :), "It" became the beginning with the baroque oboe duet, when the second part enters, and sometimes when they
extemporize, but, It's not such a big probem, no? (:
No problem. I just wasn't sure what you were refering to. I wondered if you meant intonation.
I also heard that glitch in the 2nd oboe entrance. I'm not a reed player, so I don't know what might cause this, but I'd guess his reed misspoke because it was full of spit. Something like when a singer gets a false start due to a "frog" in his voice that he needs to clear out.
I heard this aria yesterday om TV-channel Mezzo, with a adult singer a countertenor. I like countertenors often, but I think Christian here are doing it better, this is the best version I heard so far.
This performance is available on Deutsche Grammophon and currently available. The Tolzers have a huge recorded legacy which is detailed on their website.

hey guys, I don't understand all the gibberish about 'bass bariton or alto .... - man, Christian Immler has a beautiful voice and he is very talented. Do we know his age and the 'Stimmbruch' - it doesn't matter. When you listen this, close your eyes and listen with your whole body, not just with your intellectual 'understanding' of the work. To understand means 'to stand under'.
I attended the h-moll last spring with TKC in Leipzig. Some critics were crying, looking for fat divas instead of poor skinny treble. But what did JSB write ?
And about Harnoncourt, his last Zauberflöte (2007) is with Daniel Krähmer, Eric Price and Frederic Jost.
I listen every day to this recording. I've heard it already many times also live at a concert. But this is awesome. The way he sings... it touches me in the heart.
The recording of Mathäuspassion was for tv ORF1; they could so make a video, that were wonderful! But whan, meine Herren?
Sehr gut gesungen, Herr Immler, herzlichsten Glückwunsch! Wissen Sie was?
It is interesting that sometimes his voice almost has the quality of a tenor's, as opposed to an alto. Wonderful sound and clean scales. He must be close to his voice change here though...
I think he sounds very close to be a countertenor i some notes. And he sings very clean as you say. He must have been one of the bests boyaltos in the choir ever. He and Panjitos.
Can you imagine Herr Schmidt-Gaden in those days, having such magnificent altos at the same time? Like having two point guards who can score 20 and make 10 assists.
ye the boy can sing but listen to the music the ochestra never gets any credit the music maketh rthe man its a double act one is no good without the other
I've heard another versions of this aria, and there's no doubt this is my favorite. That boy's voice is just amazing! Also, the musicians play it really, really good. What a performance!
Apologies to Paul Esswood. He is the countertenor/alto I was referring to. Kurt Equiluz is a tenor. Somehow, I got the two mixed up. Anyway, if Christian Immler's voice was still unchanged when this was recorded, he was fantastic beyond belief! Either way, his performance was excellent.
I've said this at another posting of this same singer, but it bears repeating. He sounds more like a fully developed countertenor than a pre-change boy. (Compare with Kurt Equiluz.) And so much intelligence! He must be really fantastic now!
But I can understand what you mean, in Christians high tones and when he sings with strong vocie he sounds more like a countertenor then a boyalto...he must have been one of the best altos ever in this chor
I heard him as a kid in some MP3-file,(not this one) and his vocie was so strong so if I didnt know it was a young boys who sang the piece I thougt it was a male soprano a countertenor
Wonderful! C. Immler has sung as a bass in Brazil (Christmas Oratorio)and I was singing in the choir! And now I see him when he was a child! What a surprise!!!
ufa sorry for my english, somebody are interesed in matthew's passion? i so glad to know some one who knows about this music in special bach's passion, and better if you speak spanish
hello somebody is interested in matthew's passion finds out? special somebody that to me happen material but and commentaries in of bach and the passions?
His name is Christian Immler and he was 14 years old at the time. You can read more about his biography here: http://www.bach-cantatas.com/Bio/Immler-Christian.htm

King maurice: No, The kid is not castreded. Every boy can sings so high before they have there vociebreak.

You are, of course correct Zerlina12, but baritones can also sound like this when singing in their falsetto range.
jmontgomery7577 4 years ago
But I can understand what you mean, in Christians high tones and when he sings with strong vocie he sounds more like a countertenor then a boyalto...he must have been one of the best altos ever in this chor
Zerlina12 4 years ago
He must have been one of the best altos ever anywhere!
Nikolas Harnoncourt was singularly lucky he was in his prime at the time of this recording!

hello somebody is interested in matthew's passion finds out? special somebody that to me happen material but and commentaries in of bach and the passions?
jarfalsp 5 years ago
