"snap" new filter into the cap before reinstalling. bulgaria wtf hehe. oil amount is a combo of car's manual and dip stick measurement, duh! always read your own manual for details but good vid and very entertaining. i love how much you hate plastic engine covers! the cap o ring should be replaced or relubed and torqued to about 18 ft lbs or torque specified on cap 25nm = 18 ft lbs roughly. i love the oil choice and you can't beat $11
"What a lot of people don't know here is that has these fuckin filters" - For some reason, I burst into laughter from that. Maybe because since I own one of these cars, I feel your pain.
my neice wanted me to change her oil i am glad i decided to look here what a bunch of bullshit this is chevy sure fucked this idea up,lol thanks to the young men for putting on this video, i have worked on cars for 40 plus years and this is da shits for sure
Thx for the vid bro. Was very helpful. My only comment is consider not dropping so many Fbombs next time. Thanks again for taking the time to make and share.
What's nice about that system is if you have an oil pump, the kind used to change the oil in Mercedes, you can change the oil without lifting the car off the ground.
LMFAO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I have an '03 GRAND AM with the same engine. I remember the first oil change I did on it and I was like "What the fuck, where is the fucking filter". Thank god for the manuals lol. Quick tip if you don’t have the right size socket. Use the next size up, and place a rage over the filter cap. This is what I have been doing for 5 years. Great clip and the fat kid look pretty gay too. Just thought I’d throw that out there:)
Just in case anyone missed it, at 1:53 you can see the new red o-ring installed around the filter cap. When I bought my Cobalt, the last person decided to not use the o-ring and just torqued it down. It takes a LOT more torque to seal the cap without the ring, enough to possibly damage it (the cap is a somewhat brittle plastic)
alright dude. I'm glad i stumbled on your video. i own this kind of car and have been wondering about the filter. I learned something and I'm glad to see at least one of you wearing a Tool shirt. keep it up man! good shit.
When Chevy replaced the very old, straight-to-rental Cavalier with the Cobalt for 2005, it was touted as a Honda Civic-killer. It barely matched the retrograde 2001-2005 Civic, and was on the trailer a year later when the class-leading '06 Civic made its debut.
Try pliers, its not hard all you have to do is break it loose and finish unscrewing it with your hand. Maybe next time try to clip the new filter into the "some rubber plastic piece of shit" which doesnt take any effort. its really not hard at all to change just takes some common sense. lol " what a dumbass thing" maybe its you not the car.
Why do so many dislike the the oil filter? Its easy to get to, and you don't end up with oil running down your arm or onto some part of the underside of the car. I've owned many cars and this is one of the easiest to change oil
@onejupiter It is NOT easy to get to. First you have an intake manifold blocking it from above, so you need a special low profile socket with extension to reach it. Before removal, you must stuff paper towels all around it or you end up with deep crevices filled with oil that takes a long time to burn off. My BWM had the same dumb crevices below the filter cap but at least I didn't need special tools to remove it.
also i can post a vid explainin it i got a good amount of performance boost with a new intake and it sounds mean. its deeper like an exhaust only under the hood and when u get on the throttle and let off it makes a noise like a blowoff valve...its hilarious cuz dumbasses always think i have a turbo under the hood but ya it gave me increased gas mileage and a 15% hp increase which is like 15 hp
love it and u should look into it lemme know if u want a video about it
yo man u dont need that plastic cover i got an 05 ls and the first thing i did was rip that thing off its pointless and ugly
also u should throw an intake on it it looks soo much better than that big piece of shit stock intake system-the big arched plastic thing at the base of the throttle body that looks like a wave is part of it and its useless it has no function...u can take the old one off real easy and u can buy individual parts like elbows and filter at autozone and do the intake for $100
Guys, it's like 90% humidity and frickin hot outside! I've scoured the worthless manual and been all over the car to find the oil filter. Any dip-shit can find an air filter but it's clearly located in the manual. Absolutely no reference to where the oil filter is! That's so if you read the manual before you buy it, you'll see that it's a sorry piece of monkey shit and you should look at a different car. Thanks for the video! I was going 2 Walmart 2 raise hell 4 selling me a goofy fuel filter.
Thanks guy's I just got my Cobalt 3000 miles ago, went to Autozone to get a filter and those retards can't even find one for me. Anyway thanks for showing me where the stupid thing is and how to change it. And WTF is up with the plastic cover??? That shit is stupid.
@integr8er66 no problem, yea we had the same trouble with the filter. lol i know i hate those covers, most engines have them now. i told my friend to just take that shitty thing off.
I HAVE TO SAY THIS ABOUT YOUR VIDEO, YOU ARE TOTALLY RIGHT ABOUT HOW CHEVY MADE A CAR WITH A FILTER ON TOP AND NOT ON THE BOTTOME, THEN TO TOP IT OFF NO COVER ON THESE FILTERS HOW STUPID IS THAT! I JUST BOUGHT A 2010 COBALT LT AND HAD NO CLUE WHERE THE OIL FILTER WAS, SO ASUME IT WAS A NORMAL LOOKING FILTER AND WENT TO TWO DIFFERENT STORES THINKING THE BOOK WAS WRONG, WELL NOW WE KNOW THAT ITS NOT THANK YOU FOR YOUR VIDEO!
@Tucker7076 yes i didnt like that idea at all, especially to see that there is no cover on the filter, i just think of the filter getting all shitty and debris falling into the engine. a lot of cars are like this now too and i dont like it. yea lol we had the same trouble in the store and we were like what the hell and we double checked the filter. no problem
Just doing my first oil change. Thanks for the video because none of this was explained in the mostly useless owners manual. What a stupid, retarded design. I say that for coming up with stupid stuff like this, GM FAILS and why should we throwing our money at this company to bail them out.
@777strongcoffee No problem, glad to help. I know when we went to advanced auto and we realized that we couldnt find the filter, that was a challenge. A lot of compaies are doing making these filters like this and i dont like it, they said its better for the environment.
thanks guys! appreciate it. its the same setup as in the chev classic malibus with the L61 Ecotecs. its a crappy setup. not to mention the filter's about twice the price for half the materials. stupid GM.
so that u know for next time u dont have to struggle so much with the new filter, it clips onto the lid and then gets screwed down instead of dropping it in and potentially damaging the filter
Cool, thanks man. I changed the oil in my neighbor's Cobalt and got an OEM AC-Delco filter and it didn't come with the gasket, so I had to use the old one. I saw that yours had one, that's why I was asking.
I've changed my Cobalt filter a couple of time. I notice two things - (1) the filter snaps into the cap before you put the cap back on the car (2) I wouldn't crank down on the cap so hard with that long-handled wrench (same comment that xdjstylz330x made) Nice video though - I'm going to look for your spark plug video
yea that is to true, we will look for that next time. that part is a cheap plastic piece of shit. yea the spark plug video will help. im going to do another video soon of a dodge ram spark plug change and oil change
we were going to use a impact wrench or something but i had nothing that would fit and there was a gm mechanic at advanced auto parts where we bought the oil filter and he told us that we need that size socket
Thanks guys I was puzzled why the filter I had to buy for my Cobalt was much smaller and shitty looking than any I had bought before but also double the price. Then puzzled about why I couldn't find the damn thing cause its not where the oil filter is in any other car I've seen..oh well at least it's easier to get at I guess.
yea no problem, we didnt know either at first but we found it when we did the first oil change. yea the only thing i like about that design is that its easier to get at. we also did a video on how to change the spark plugs on cobalts and a lot of new cars.
lol yea, when we were at autozone a gm mechanic was there and told us that it needs a inch and a quarter socket. i think its fucking stupid. this week we are going to put new spark plugs on the cobalt and a do a video
Dude I gota question. You know on the digital infos by the speedometer where it says oil life %? Is that supposed to go automatically back to 100% after you change the oil? cause mine didn't and I lost my owner's manual.
@Kaspergaling the anwser is no. u have to put ur car in the run position & press the gas peddle 3 times to reset, then it will reset or if ur car is a 05 or 06 u can go into the computer of ur car the same way u can change it from miles to Km's, from English to German, to french, to Spanish & even reset ur oil life there. press both enter button & the "i" button the same time for 3 sec's then use the i button to switch to oil life then press the enter button & it will say oil life reset.
lol thanks, we are planning on doing more of these types of videos and funny ones soon. yea thats bullshit how they had that stupid ass socket size on it.
B & B oil change...LOL. Those oil filters thingys used to be optional on the stove bolt 6.
