You only need one Piston to get up to two reeds. When you break the second reed the third reed if already grown automatically breaks too. That way you can reduce the amount of Pistons by 50%, right?

@TheKastenbrot @DrSupahFly No, why do i get this so often? When you break the 2nd reed the 3ed reed on top breaks and falls right on top of the piston and when the piston retracts the top reed just falls down on the dirt. You need to push both reeds out so they fall over the edge.
