You would have to be on cheap crack to think that moon was better than Bonham!!!! Moon is nothing more than an over-rated, flashy drummer. If you consider songs full of pointless rolls/fills with little to no feel at all to be good then i guess Moon is your guy. If moon was half as creative as Bonham then i guess every song wouldnt sound the same. Bonham owns the rock feel. Great job in the video man! Well done.
@pnotes1 sorry man, that is completely inaccurate, you clearly don't know much about moon, moon was the most inspirational, creative and energetic rock drummer of all time
That isn't a Double bass you idiots, he using one, check his left foot and look at the hi hats you assholes, also bonham used one, there wasn't even double pedals when bonham was still alive...
... good job, kid. But you need to put some feeling into it..! Lay into the snare a bit... you hit it like you're afraid of it... need a rim shot on the main snare hits. (I don't get all the talk here about double bass... my mom can play this pattern)
@Jeans11234567 noooooooooooo lol..keith moon was definitally the jimi hendrix of drummers...no doubt, bonham was like the jimmy page of drums..perfect haha
how are you able to post this cover..... i tryed to cover this song and got copyright infringement laws smaking me down.... some one please help me......
Just looking at the comments, some idiots don't seem to realise that he isn't using a double bass pedal. He played it the way bonham did with a single bass pedal, and overall produced a fantastic cover of the song.
I have a clutch on the top hat that keeps it closed when playing any double bass patterns but the high hat sound is a lot more open unlike the tight closed sound in this vid seeing as I didn't use a double bass pedal.
I do not use a double bass on this song. It's an accusation made early on when I posted this vid because the movement of my left leg on the high hat pedal suggests double bass playing. You're right, it's not that difficult to play this song properly on a single player as Bonham did. I even posted a short clips showing my feet while playing this pattern to help clear up any confusion. It displays my left foot on the high hat pedal and the same left leg movement as in this vid.
@bonhaminspired false. the first kit ludwig gave him was a double bass. he toured with is for a summer until page and plant said the double kick was drowning out their sound. But he never recorded any of their albums with a double kick
Very cool man...but your crash don't sounds good...anyway keep rockin...You have a solid groove...And i think will sounds better if you use the rim shot on he snare ...Cheers
i like this song but um hey was it very hard for u to learn this song? i mean i try to play this song but i have trouble how to learn it to play um any tips u can tell me how to play this song by the way nice cover nd thanks for posting it ur awesome
Thanks! This song wasn't too difficult. I would start with trying to play the main beat of the song at a much slower tempo to help you get the bass drum part down, and slowly speed it up as you get comfortable with it. I posted a quick clip of this with no music that may help you hear what you need to do. Hope that helps.
lol I hate it too, I always get off time on it, but John Bonham had a very fast and accurate right foot. He only did one bass drum, but if you do this with 2 bass drums, it would be harder, trust me, its easier with one bass drum
so is it just the same basic groove all the way through with changes to the bar endins here and there?? just want to know because i want to learn it :)
Yeah it's pretty much the same groove throughout. I drop one bass note on the lyric part "We come from the land of the ice and snow,
From the midnight sun where the hot springs blow" then add the bass drum beat as in the intro. Same thing again on the second verse, same lyric part. Other than that I play the same groove throughout, adding cymbal accents on the snare beat towards the end. Hope that helps! Thanks for watching.
well actually my drum teacher can use the high hat and the double base at the same time but i dont know if he meant to do it because he shifts it to the beat even though the base petal is going four or five times faster
I have a video of Thomas Lang and he is able to play both hi hat and double bass at the same time with his left foot. I'm not a double bass player. I use the double pedal for fills. The bass drum pattern in this song is not that difficult to achieve with one foot. Obviously the camera angle is misleading. I will repost the song with a clear view of my pedals soon.
well you play it tighter then me. are you using double kick? thats soo cheating! Jimmy never let bonham use double kick cos he was to much of a machine on them! good job anway
lol, i have a double kick but I do not use it on this song. my left leg is seen moving just to keep time on the high hat pedal. you're right, bonhams lack of double pedal made him a monster on a bass drum with a single pedal as evident in songs like good times bad times.
maan put some more atittud when playong drums! but great cover btw
