The thing is that hearing and listening to are different things, even in spanish (my mother language) or german (my other mother language) the use of those two different words have different meanings. From a plain point of view the correct verb might be "listen to", but like in poetry, when you want to emphasize something important from a sentence, you can use a verb that gramaticaly won't fit.
