I just recently got a dog from the Oregon Humane Society and we weren't too sure what breed she was, definitely shepherd in her, but eventually we deciphered that she is a 1 1/2 year old German Shepherd/Whippet X. She is wonderful, I love her so much, she is willing to learn and love... definitely has a whippet body and whippet personality with shepherd coloring, not to mention the SPEED! She leaves all the dogs at the dog park in her tracks :)
Salukis can actually go further distances than Greyhounds and can go up to 50 mph whereas Greyhounds usu. cap out at 45-47mph. Salukis were trained to hunt gazelle that travel similar speeds. As much as I favor Labradors over any other dog/animal, sighthounds are definitely one of my favorite types. The oldest breed of dogs, usu. considered the Saluki, are sighthounds.
Enjoyed watching your video. Comet is the absolute double of my whippet pup Marley who is 1 yr old. The markings are identical. Whippets are the most precious dogs in the world - they have such a fantastic temperament and are so loving and so intelligent. They are just adorable.

I can see from the comments that you must of lost your whippet. I am so sorry to hear that :-(. Whippets have been in my family for years and years and ive had my little one since i was two. Am almost 19 now!!! How old was your little one? May he rest in peace with all the other whippets. I lost one who was 18 over 4 years ago and another who was 17 ish a few years after.x
What is it with Whippet owners? I've had other dogs and always loved pattng them and so on, but I just can't help but do the exact same things with my Winnie as you do too! Their coat is sooo silky smooth and structure so long and lean, you just can't help but run a hand right along from the cute little black button at the front the tail.
I think it's about time I posted another Winnie vid !

@bluehachiroku Oh dear, I didn't realise you lost Comet. I know what you've gone through. I lost my previous dog, Ellie Mae (large Kelpie) to liver cancer. She was sick and gone in two days. I was off work for a week. Just couldn't function at all. We got Winnie about a month or two later and like partners, they're not a replacement, just a different friend. As the song goes, I could've done without the pain, but I'd have missed the dance.
These dogs look so lovely, in time i will absolutly have one of these and give her a beautiful live (Her, i want agirl whippet!! ) for now i have to watch these great whippet vids. I hope that highwater is gone by now at your home!! good luck to you and like Mick Dundee said, no worries mate!!
Dogs are bautiful, happy, loyal animals... and if anyone tells me a dog has no soul, all I say is "look inot their eyes for five minutes and then come back and tell me he has no soul!" I just wanna say Comet is GORGEOUS, and I can see that he both gets and gives a whole lotta love. Some people go thru life thinking the only worthwhile love is that which we get from humans? Ahhhhhhhhhhh. He looks a bit like my whippet. His markings on his face are similar. Except my dog is a girl and she's called Winnie. She does that rolling funny noise thing too .So funny. And she gets on my kids trampoline aswell! Whippest truly r the best, oh and lurchers coz I have one of those too.
XD Back when we had our trampoline, Jingle (our whippet mix) would get on there when we were jumping and run around in circles. X3 She never slipped off, because it had a net. And it was so cute! She loved that trampoline.

I rescued a dog recently his name is Emmit and at first we thought he was a pitbull beagle but turns out he's part whippet. Him and my late blue heeler are my faovrite dogs in the world
I've always loved how you could see the ribs in this breed. For some reason the structure is just astonishing.
My dog is half Whippet, and we have people commenting on her all the time, how she looks under feed, but if people would look at the healthy eyes, clear ears, shiny coat - that's what matters. Lol.

@magicalmiriam My Lurcher moved away, but he was pretty much just a long coated Whippet, its been over a year and a half, and I cried about him last night. He was amazing. <3 I hope to get another whippet one day, I love them so much. :)
Comet is goregous by the way. :))) Your very lucky to own one.
Sighthounds were bred to keep their prey in sight while chasing, rather than using smell. They have a very flexible bone/muscle structure to acheive this.
Thank you. Full of soul Whippet and Enya!. I lost my beloved Whippet 2 years ago. She got run over on our cul-de-sac street. It still hurts. She dragged herself all the way up to our driveway and died. Just made plans for a fence. Seeing your video reminded me how she loved to run and outran any dog. She was only 5 years old but with a 100 year old soul.
Just gorgeous, we have a whippet too with the same beautiful markings and eyes. Living the life such a whippet deserves - the softest pillow etc. We hope to film our Scooby soon. Thanks
