Its a very good game. But, there are a lot of flaws in it. The levels are extremely repetitive and there is no online. Online being the biggest flaw. Because if you remember playing Diablo i'm sure everyone can agree it wouldn't be NEARLY as addictive and fun if it was only single player. It would've been still good. But, not nearly as great as it is.
Basically this game is a great game to keep you busy until Diablo 3 comes out.
It's much much better when you play it it's totaly different the quality of image the move of characther YOU MUST PLAY IT FIRST and after this make a decision about this game it's INCREDIBLE and it's not flufy....
i'm an older guy and this looks kinda like Dragon's Lair for anyone who remembers that game. i always liked the animation in that. i've done the WoW and Diablo thing to death. This looks different. Cartoony? Yes. But it's kinda chunky and fun looking. I ordered it. Can't wait to play something less "serious".
I love Fate and this is quite similar. But it is way too unbalanced, you can be too powerful or too weak depending on the items that you use and your style of play!

you are so wrong, i did it already and i'm a reporter for an important d3fansite, so, i'm always in the news. What you don't know maybe is that blizzard have several versions of the game, with different colors, gradients and lights each and they can change it anytime, the videos are not rock solid, the final version may be different. Last but not least, the 'actual version' (the video we all can see) are way too colorful, blizzard admitted it, but they said that they like it aswell.

This game has an identical gameplay as diablo 1, and with the graphics and all that it looks just great. I don't know about an MMO but for an offline Hack and slash RPG it's the best thing you can get right now for the PC (Unless you have a PS3 and you want Demon's Souls, then you can get them both).
As much as the MMO thing is going on I think we should wait and see the multi-player patch first, that they are working on at this point. CO-OP is just awesome.

This game looks sweet, Im going to get it as soon as it's out in stores here in australia. Hopefully in january, the music sounds 10/10 and the gameplay looks great. Pitty it lacks gore, multiplayer etc,(I still think diablo 3 will be 10x better but thats my view) And btw 30% of the crew working on diablo 3 are from the old blizzard north which is pretty good since the crew has grown alot.

This is made by the people who left Blizzard North awhile back so it is in no way a rip off. This game is more closely related to the game "Fate" anyways. Torchlight is also making a sequel which will be an MMO Torchlight game in the next couple of years. The MMO Torchlight game will give D3 some competition that's for sure. I'm still on my first character but Torchlight is a great dungeon crawler!

I will admit the Destroyer does look cheesy but the gameplay is awesome so don't talk shit until you've actually played it. It's made by the same guys that did Diablo and is quite awesome.
not really, i think these dudes worked on diablo 1, then moved on to there own company (i think flagship it was called) who made mythos (never came out but was in beta) and hellgate london.
but then they got shut down, formed a NEW new company called runic, who made torchlight and are also going to use the money they make on torchlight to make a free-to-play MMO based off of torchlight.

Captainclayman is correct about that, Blizzard has no part in Torchlight's production, just some former Blizzard members who went on their own to create Runic Games.

I bought the game is its pretty fun, tho I don't really know what is the mob respawn rate on this game. Do they respawn after a timer or enter/exit like d2?
Well, if you're shallow about games, then yes, you can consider a game "beaten" once you reach the end.
For me however, I consider a game truly conquered once I have achieved as much as I can in the game. With Torchlight, the final boss is not the end of your adventuring. There is an infinite dungeon you can access, with more quests and a couple other characters who are eager to reap the rewards of your dungeon-crawling.
true...but in my case i "beat" the game when i kill the last boss...i was playing in hard if i ain't mistaken..it were 3Hours 10 minutes with vanquisher with 2 weapons...almost pure str...my lvl was around teh same as teh last boss if i remember well.
WTF? I've been playing for over 10 hours on my first character and just beat the final boss a little bit ago. Granted, I was level 41 when I beat him on Very Hard, but still. It was my first run through the game!
Guess all those random side-dungeons really extended the life of the game for me....

@ShinigamiAnger Christ, so many people (even Penny Arcade) who would "share your sentiments" actually disagree. It's their own art design, it's their own game. It's not so much Diablo as much as it's using Diablo's name. It's unfair to compare 2 games that came from the same dev team to an entirely different dev team's work. So actually, your game where you pick up legendary razor blades to cut yourself, isn't going to be there. But there will be a great Hack N' Slash game, come Diablo III.

Sorry, hard to keep a straight face and not to think of you as a little 12 year old kid. Seriously. I'd stop it now, Diablo is still very gory as it is. There's improved gore animations. They just made the graphics so that enemies stood out and decided to make things look more noticeable.

Diablo 3 isnt even out yet, so you cant say that this game is a rip-off of it.... and torchlight is alot of fun, reminds me of diablo 2 alot... also this game is aweseme because of the variety of weapons... the guns are so awesome. defiently the best hack n slash of 2009.

This game has an identical gameplay as diablo 1, and with the graphics and all that it looks just great. I don't know about an MMO but for an offline Hack and slash RPG it's the best thing you can get right now for the PC (Unless you have a PS3 and you want Demon's Souls, then you can get them both).
As much as the MMO thing is going on I think we should wait and see the multi-player patch first, that they are working on at this point. CO-OP is just awesome.

I thought no proper game released in 2009 would have support for PS2.0.
This did, and it was very good. It runs at above 30 over fps, with resolution at 1024, and the settings set to medium/high. (Terrible Ati 200m)
It has support for older graphic chips too, and a netbook mode.
Now, it's one of my favorite games I've ever played.

This game looks sweet, Im going to get it as soon as it's out in stores here in australia. Hopefully in january, the music sounds 10/10 and the gameplay looks great. Pitty it lacks gore, multiplayer etc,(I still think diablo 3 will be 10x better but thats my view) And btw 30% of the crew working on diablo 3 are from the old blizzard north which is pretty good since the crew has grown alot.

the simularities between the 2 games is more than obvious. Dude! It is obvious that is not going to be better than Diablo 3 and everyone is playing it, but Torchlight is not a rip off of DIablo 3. It is made by the same team that made Diablo 1 and it follows that formula to the bone. The reason this game is good is not because it brings new stuff, forget it, it's good because it's the only good hack and slash rpg released in the last few years.
And I don't see why you would think that this game would even try to compete with Diablo 3. Chill.:P

@jinheat yeh but you have to realise that games take more than a few weeks / months to make a game. This game was more than likly in development way before D3 footage was shown. So there was no real way for this game to rip of D3 as it was in developemnt before any D3 footage was shown. so any simularities are coincidence

This is made by the people who left Blizzard North awhile back so it is in no way a rip off. This game is more closely related to the game "Fate" anyways. Torchlight is also making a sequel which will be an MMO Torchlight game in the next couple of years. The MMO Torchlight game will give D3 some competition that's for sure. I'm still on my first character but Torchlight is a great dungeon crawler!

The final boss at floor 35_the lair, i thought i just play half way finish as the waypoint is only half, suddenly no access point for 'stair down', which means it's the final stage.
The spell able to learn by dragging to spell box and unlearn by pressing CTRL key. How to upgrade the spell ? eg: fireball VI ranks 1/10 to ranks 2/10. Anyone knows?

You need to put points into the spell masteries. Fireballs are Offensive Spell Mastery, iirc.

not really, i think these dudes worked on diablo 1, then moved on to there own company (i think flagship it was called) who made mythos (never came out but was in beta) and hellgate london.
but then they got shut down, formed a NEW new company called runic, who made torchlight and are also going to use the money they make on torchlight to make a free-to-play MMO based off of torchlight.
so yeah.
plus greg ullman did the music for this game and he's awesome

Captainclayman is correct about that, Blizzard has no part in Torchlight's production, just some former Blizzard members who went on their own to create Runic Games.

Well, if you're shallow about games, then yes, you can consider a game "beaten" once you reach the end.
For me however, I consider a game truly conquered once I have achieved as much as I can in the game. With Torchlight, the final boss is not the end of your adventuring. There is an infinite dungeon you can access, with more quests and a couple other characters who are eager to reap the rewards of your dungeon-crawling.

true...but in my case i "beat" the game when i kill the last boss...i was playing in hard if i ain't mistaken..it were 3Hours 10 minutes with vanquisher with 2 weapons...almost pure str...my lvl was around teh same as teh last boss if i remember well.

WTF? I've been playing for over 10 hours on my first character and just beat the final boss a little bit ago. Granted, I was level 41 when I beat him on Very Hard, but still. It was my first run through the game!
Guess all those random side-dungeons really extended the life of the game for me....

and i only did one random dungeon.
not dieing in hard mode is a challenge so i'm taking my time picking items.
