@alvarobcneto I am an unemplyed womble. Nobody loves us anymore. We had to move from wimbledon. I loved the 70's. People loved us then. Keep wombling.
@alvarobcneto Easier than you think. In addition to the official Wombles website (check the Wikipedia article for a link at the bottom), there are a lot of nostalgia and fan sites out there. Look for The Tidy Bag and Wombles Burrow, among others.
Being a Yank I didn't discover the Wombles until about 1983 when I was working in college radio, but this was my favorite song by them. Man, Noel Edmonds must have weighed about 90 lbs.
Yes, it is Steeleye Span in those furry suits. Mike was producing them at the time and didn't have time to schedule the usual gang of session people so he prevailed upon them to do the show.
Oh, and it says on - ahem - the Manchester Evening News website that it's actually Steeleye Span (who'd themselves be in the Top 5 by year's end with a Mike Batt production) dressed up as the Wombles here.
At the time, there even used to be ads on London buses proclaiming "picnic in the open air and take a Womble sandwich there". A better slogan than this is a song, I'll grant you.
Are they naked from the waist down? what happens if one of them gets a hard-on?

Bollocks.
Chris Spedding produced early Pistols demos, and I believe he played on the Wombles records.
He did not write Pretty Vacant.

@TheMikey1961
They got hunted to extinction in the late 70s - the fur was highly sought after, though the meat was a bit gamey.
revjimbob 8 months ago 2
@revjimbob Actually, they survived and are playing Glasonbury :-)
