@Listen2Spitta haha very weird. Only have 2 more chapters to go -- then i have to hunt down the mystery-cut last chapter that was apparently not included in my copy.
@gnites88 I KNOW WHERE THAT IS! I own the Norton Paperback Copy that has all 21 chapters. Find the Norton Paperback Copy! It also has a cool introduction by the author himself Anthony Burgess.
To me, this seems like a modern version of James Joyce's Dubliners, and that book depressed the hell out of me, would a comparison of Joyce be accurate?
@jyoung2112 Yeah I really am. More than I thought. There's more to it than the language, which makes the language so much more fun. If Language is the proper term there.
I've heard nothing but great things about it. Just picked up a copy. 753 pages. I was afraid it'd be all of those things too but it doesn't seem bad at all. The chapters are only a page and a half to 3 pages long and the vocab seems to be a breeze. I'm sure its complicated but thats a plus. I doubt its any more complicated than a DFW book. Ill let you know how it goes
@jyoung2112 ha no. It's something I've always wanted to, because one of my favorite musicians/artists, Vic Ruggiero of The Slackers, says it's his favorite book. But man that thing looks long, hard, and complicated.
try the library..i live in a very small town and our library has it ..u can get it from amazon for ten bucks...with shipping it'll only cost you around 14 bucks...
If you can wrap your mind around it enough to do a review (I'm not being condescending, I had to read this book more than once to make any sense of it) you should do Atrocity Exhibition by J.G. Ballard. I'd like to see what you make of it.
If you're looking for classics to review, I would suggest On the Road. I was very reluctant to read it (for some reason I was sure I would hate it), but a trip to San Francisco convinced me to try it and I'm loving it. The quintessential beat novel, it would be cool if you touched down on that area of American literature! I picked up a copy of Endgame in SF, too, looking forward to reading that as well.
@matthunterrlf i know. I look for it every time I go to the used bookstore. I should just suck it up and buy it full price. I keep hearing good things from people
Very nice bro, If I sent you out a copy of one of my short novels would you review it for me? It's called, 'Quills, Cabals, Book clubs & Sublime Lampoons.'' Let me know, I will sent it out to you in a jiffy. I enjoy your reviews and would love to hear constructive criticism of my work. Peace!
Great review - definitely made me interested in the book, I'll have to look out for it. Also can't wait for A Clockwork Orange - I really enjoyed it after getting used to the language.
@bozzojbe ha well if you don't get it the first time -- i didn't -- just put it down and try it some other time. At worst you'll have it around for some day in the future, haha.
@gnites88 It has a mesh of both aspects, the language of it isn't made up slang like in clockwork but it is in mostly British slang so it takes some adjusting to.
I'm reading Gravity's Rainbow now. I'm nervous. Also, do you write? I haven't seen enough of your videos to know if you have mentioned it previously. Sorry. Great review though.
@thestatuegotmehigh I write book reviews for my local newspaper. You can see most of them online if you search google for "Dean Goranites Tonawanda News." As far as fiction goes, I don't, at least, not right now. Something tells me I will some day. But for now not too often.
@ToxicMayo9 mmmmmm, I've gone back and forth on it. I'm really surprised how well it's doing, numbers wise. I guess it really shows the power of youtube. It just seems like such a bandwagoners book right now, I don't know if I want to do it because I should because it's important, or if I don't want to because it's just way too trendy right now. Idk. I have this same problem with the Hunger Games.
I just came to your channel to ask you to review clockwork orange.. So weird

@digahome88 Ha that's funny, I read that somewhere else too. I think that would be a pretty good comparison, yes.

I will, just make sure you get your hands on the last chapter of A Cockwork Orange before you review it. You enjoying it?

@thazzchair yeah I always am on the fence with that one. I know I'll give it a chance eventually.

@gnites88 One of the main characters is named Dean, if that wins it any points

Hopefully you're reading the edition of A Clockwork Orange that doesn't have the omitted chapter at the end.

@DCTMCG I heard about that, and the copy I have does omit it. Stinks, I'll have to dig around for it online.
