@mrsalamander sorrow man, but the drums are not the main instrument. There is no main instrument. I am not accustomed to listening to music where the drums prevail over other instruments. I would rather hear something where there is equilibrium.
yall are forgetting to mention that not only do flo, george and derek all play awsome death metal, but each of them are awsome, jazz players. you cant judge on only death metal, because theres only so much you can do in the DM business, hence flo's "sell out". But im sure if you had the opportunities flo has and has had you would do the same he has done
I disagree, not all people when presented with opportunities and choices act in the same way or even predictable ways. We all value different things, or relatively more or less and sometimes make decisions irrationally. Not all DM drummers would move in a more commercially acceptable direction if given the chance, flo did. Not a bad thing or a good thing, just his choice.
I would say George has faster feet but Flo has faster hands and is overall a little more creative with the fills and cymbal work. Both are really great at what they do though \m/
minimal amount of blastbeat = real talent for death metal drumming.. sense of originality.. too bad they flushed almost all their musical heritage with lord worm :(
check out George Kollias then even though i like cryptopsy better than nile and flo has a mad cool style georgle kollias like deserves a religion for himself he's just like that amazing his blast beats could break the sound barrier prolly lol
One thing I'd like to change about Cryptopsy's CD music is it's harder to hear flow than it should be. If you look at say Origin, which has a great drummer too, the sound of the drums almost prevails over the guitars half the time. I wish that was the case for Cryptopsy's CDs.
Its not in "The Unspoken King", you can't even hear the guitar in it. The CD sucks ass anyways, they should do the same thing with that CD that they did with all those remaining ET games. Bury them in a desert somewhere.
That is true and its only because the drums are the only thing worth hearing in that crap album... I wish they had the same lineup from none so vile...
@MrSalamander7 if you want to hear a band that i feel really puts the drums out front listen to hate takes its form by dawn of demise the drums really cut through the music
Triggers aren't cheating, but I personally think they are an easy way to fix a bad bass drum sound. I understand that they're necessary during shows and stuff where the crowd has to hear the bass drum clearly, but I think death metal drummers should mic their drums better in studio and not just rely on triggers. Triggers are useful, but they are relied on a little too much in terms of drum sound.
but dude they just make the bass drum sooo much better....i think there a must for recording because they make you consistant no matter what and the bass drum needs to consistant, plus really high speeds dont sound like poo, and bass drum rolls sound a lot better as well
I still don't get this "triggers make ye play faster" craic. I mean your leg, foot & ankle movements/technique is what allows you to play fast, not triggers? At the end of the day it's your foot technique that determines the speed of the kick beats regardless of whether you use triggers or not, the trigger clamped on the bass drum isn't going to magically increase your speed!
Another fact is that many drummers that use double bass ( in live performances ) cannot tune them, to have a equal sound in all two, so they use triggers also for that reason.
Mainly triggers are used to have a clean sound so, in a live performance, despite bad sound of other instruments, drums can be heared very well.
also in that... allows for clarity in the recording mix... eventually you can go so fast the resonance of the drum can ring and sound like one long ass bass note held.
Also the other reason to this is when your playing fast you cant hit it as hard as you could when your doing it slower. So with trigger you dont have to hit it hard for it to make a sound. Thats why you can play faster with it
Dumbass!! One moron said here that Flo isn't using triggers... really? Go and see "Flo Mounier Sound Check/Solo" vid, and look closely. Oh my goodness, what is that Red clamp with "DDrum" sign and a cable attached on the bassdrum? Is it a trigger? No, impossible xD He DOESNT use triggers... Hahaha... noone can play that fast on BD without triggers, wake up people...
Oh, and by saying "noone can play that fast without triggers" I meant that fast keeping the strokes hearable...:) It still requiers technique and muscle development:)
I didn't Say it isn't real moron... Just one guy was arguing with me here in the coments, that flo is a "real drummer" because he doesn't use triggers... And I showd him he really does... I know what triggers are, what they do and that you still need to play normal even when using them, read more precise before comenting in the future...;] and chill out
"Oh, and by saying "noone can play that fast without triggers" I meant that fast keeping the strokes hearable...:) It still requiers technique and muscle development:)"
That's some kinda fill-in only flo is mad enough to play, I'm pretty sure, that Derek or George won't be able to play this stuff, even I love their playing.
You pretend to play in front of a crowd whitout any mics? its like playin guitar whitout amp on a concert. btw triggers on the bass drums arent cheatin, they are a GRATE help and make you sound pretty solid at high speeds. I love the sound that they made at speeds up from 240
Agreed... Triggers make the bassdrum sound mechanic and kickass... I like it also... I even triggerd the bass while recording with my punk/heavy rock band xD My mates warent very happy of that, but I am xD heh...
Ive heard him say in an interview that he doesnt use triggers for practice but he uses them in shows cuz it sounds better. If the guy can play all that in time i dont care if he uses triggers or not.
Ulrich does not use triggers moron:] And you obviously don't know what actualy triggers are, If you say that... first - they give enough click and atack to cut through a wall of guitars, second - as you go faster than about 200 you must shorten the strokes and get less power, and the acoustic bass drum would not be hearable... And kollias triggers only the BD. Mounier blasts so fast wothout them, because he plays two foot blasts...
damn, you are stiff man... :P heh. It is drumming, he would play the same thing as good without triggers, only with the difference, that you would barely hear the bass drum, because it is IMPOSSIBLE - read again - IMPOSSIBLE to keep enough stroke power at speeds like 260 or up.... ugh. Nevermind...
no triggers, respect ! but let`s face it .. even if you`re using triggers you still have to be a good drummer to play this song, so fuck it, triggers just let you play softer and sound heavy.
theres no way he is boring cuz his intensity is non stop and hes always switchin it up. flo is the shit.stick to thinkin joey jordison is a good drummer like most people do. he cant compare.
Flo is extremely solid drummer. Boring is far from it, it's just different techniques, styles and playing. I'm sure the folks that are finding this boring are used to drummers like Mike P., Tony Roster Jr. and such...
HOLY FUCKING SHIT HAVE YOU SEEN THE NEWS? THERE IS NO SUCH THING AS THE BEST DRUMMER!!!
Yup you read correctly. Scientists have recently discovered that people have things called "preferences" and therefore everyone has their own image of the best drummer... WOW!!!
Well I saw it on CNN yesterday around 4:20 I sure and it was their top story. I'm pretty sure lots of news outlets are covering this... It's fucking crazy! Preferences? What the fuck is this world coming too?! NOW I CANNOT ENGAGE IN INTERNET ARGUMENTS WITHOUT SOUNDING LIKE A FUCKING IDIOT!
The new guy from Necrophagist? You mean Romain Goulan? He's amazing. He has a ton of rhythmic control, effortlessly switches between 8th, triplet 8th and 16th notes on his hands and feet at high tempos and his drumming is cleaner than Roddy's. But, once again. Apples and oranges. They're all different styles of death metal drummers...
if someone says they think flo is best, its not an overstatement, its the subjective view.
a drum off would be cool, but i think flo stands out. goulon, kollias and roddy are apples and oranges IMO, but flo has his own style, i think flo is more creative in both his rolls and beat choice, not so much all-guns-blazing as the other three. they are much more solid then flo is, but, like you said, you like robots, i like humans;)
And their subject view is an overstatment. It'd be like me saying "the empire state building is the tallest building in the world" because I haven't seen any or heard of any other buildings in the world.
I don't think a drum off would be that good. They're all amazing drummers in their own respects, but, the more you practice, the more like a robot sounding you'll be.
i disagree, if you practice for robot like perfection, then that is what you`ll get, but if you want more organic, swampy like feel, like flo has, you`ll get that. i am personally not very fond of this over sterile drum machine feel.
@mrsalamander sorrow man, but the drums are not the main instrument. There is no main instrument. I am not accustomed to listening to music where the drums prevail over other instruments. I would rather hear something where there is equilibrium.

if someone says they think flo is best, its not an overstatement, its the subjective view.
a drum off would be cool, but i think flo stands out. goulon, kollias and roddy are apples and oranges IMO, but flo has his own style, i think flo is more creative in both his rolls and beat choice, not so much all-guns-blazing as the other three. they are much more solid then flo is, but, like you said, you like robots, i like humans;)

And their subject view is an overstatment. It'd be like me saying "the empire state building is the tallest building in the world" because I haven't seen any or heard of any other buildings in the world.
I don't think a drum off would be that good. They're all amazing drummers in their own respects, but, the more you practice, the more like a robot sounding you'll be.

i disagree, if you practice for robot like perfection, then that is what you`ll get, but if you want more organic, swampy like feel, like flo has, you`ll get that. i am personally not very fond of this over sterile drum machine feel.

lol. That's what lazy drummers say.
EmbodiedDespair 3 years ago
maybe, or perhaps someone who value song writing and creativity before a metronom.

lol. That's what lazy drummers who can't keep time say.
EmbodiedDespair 3 years ago
haha, ok man, if you say so, good thing you got your weak ass rhetoric all lined up.

That's what a person too lazy to argue would say, yet wanting to annoy the other person for no reason at all......
....wait a minute...?

if you can barely hear his bass in this video you are deaf. He's got plenty of power coming from those drums and hes not using triggers here.
JACKSONGUITARDUDE 3 years ago 3
Which is why you can't ever hear his sloppy snare work on his crazy fast triplet blasts.
EmbodiedDespair 3 years ago
I can tell your not a fan.

I love flo's drumming and he's inspired my drumming a lot, but damn... people paint him out to be much better than he is.
EmbodiedDespair 3 years ago
i think its cool that he isnt perfect, he doesnt sound like theres a robot behind the kit. Hes got style agreed?
JACKSONGUITARDUDE 3 years ago
I like when it sounds like there is a robot behind the kit!
But yeah, he's got good solid groove and He's a creative Extreme metal drummer.
EmbodiedDespair 3 years ago
he doesnt use triggers. That is highly respectable.

He uses triggers on the kickdrums, that's all.
TheAnnihilator12 3 years ago
You shut your whore mouth. He doesnt use triggers in the kickpedals, he uses hydraulics in his legs. Flo is a fucking robot.
