The level select screen uses placeholder music by the artists they planned to use. Area1 users Born Slippy by Underworld, Area2 uses Come to Daddy by Aphex Twin. Area 3 uses Extra, by Ken Ishii, and Area4 uses Music Response by the Chemical Brothers. None of these songs made it into the game, other than some samples from Underworld songs, which are used in Area1.
@GiantCorey Cool thanks. Any idea what other songs were used on Vibes for the other levels. I know Level 5 was the same as it is on Rez, but there must have been other songs.
spyke4995, sometimes Dreamcast ISO files will exceed 700 MB. Thats okay though, cause as long as they fit into 80minutes of track time, they will burn okay. It sounds weird but trust me. If a ROM is like this, just select the "overburn" option.
@spyke4995, interesting, also, did you found some hidden levels and musics or something?
Also, with those skills at hacking DC games, you should try to hack Sonic Adventure 1 but the original 1998 Japanese version and see if you somehow, are able to find that Mystic Ruins Beta level who was completely different in the final version of the game...
Has for SA1, for what i heard, other then two pictures of the Beta nothing else was found in the American and European versions of SA1, but since the original Japanese version come out a year earlier, there might be some leftovers hidden deep in the code,
There's also a E3 Beta released out there,
Here's a video of the beta, watch?v=YgsyszPHaa8
You could remake the whole level? That's great programing skills right there!
Is it only my console(PAL) and copy messing up the BPM? It doesn't speed up at layer 4 for me.
The level 5 freeze is related to running out of memory due to debugging, as the debug consoles in devkits had extended specs and were rather PCs with Dreamcast software.
My version of the beta is the dump from DCIsoZone.
@ceilingkitteh This is an old comment, but still. The BPM changes would be down to your PAL unit. Like mine, it runs the beta at 50Hz, which at that point in development, it was not optimized for. And in the final, you can use 60Hz anyway.
So strictly speaking, the BPM is correct, as it is set in some files that tell the game when, where and how to place objects.
ah well, still if you have a Dreamcast keyboard I would tell you about the main flow edit function-basically it lets you change what enemy's are spawned, and when-so you could spawn some password protectors when you shouldn't if you know what I mean.
huh I didn't know that..of course I don't have a Dc keyboard :(
Btw did you experience the game freezing up in level 5? I found out that it has too do with having the auto save feature on. If you have auto save on while playing level 5 the game try's to auto save at certain times but ends up freezing. Idk why though I just found that if you turn auto save off then the game never freezes
It was probably just placeholder music, as evidenced by the fact it's used in the first 4 areas of the beta, and the fact that the 8-hit chord noise thingy is in a different key than Born Slippy used during the boss fight
I played the actual game on XBL Arcade, and boy let me tell ya, that game was soo awesome. I do have a dreamcast back in my room, but I don't have the actual game.
For this through, I would need a emulator, but I can't seem to find one these days :(
i found the k-project cdi, and it works on my console, i havent quite mastered the debug menus but i can use them, this game is easy to mess up, i aced evry level by starting boss 3 at the start, thus meaning i now have 100% everything on every level, but what is the point of extra mode, u complete it, then nothing good happens, mayby the beta was put together quickly before a deadline? area 2-4 boss rush is pretty much the same beat over and over, but area1 boss rush changes every quater of it.
how do you get this!!

I can't help but cringe, reading my older comments.
Anyway, I've hacked the game, inserted beta elements into the final, and am getting a hold of a Dreamcast development unit to reverse that process.

@dinizgames Unfortunately, no hidden levels exist in the game. :\ Though there is an option to load stage 50 on the beta, that doesn't work.
And as for Sonic Adventure, if it can't be found, I could always remake the level, and import it into the game.

howcome america and japan get the red swirl at the start and europe get the blue one?, also is the class I lens better than
class II?
spyke4995 3 years ago
The blue swirl is because of copyright infringements in Europe and Japan. Someone else beat 'em to the red swirl.
As far as Lens classes, one doesn't have anything above the other except the formats it can read.
tehm0dul4r 3 years ago
thx, plus does that mean i can play american and japanese games too?
spyke4995 3 years ago
you'd need a bootloader like Utopia to play imports, granted your system is older than march 2000 and can play burned games.
As far as finding utopia, google is your friend.
