  • there should be more videos like this but in HD for the sound .. but anyway .. awesome!

  • Once earth unites under a single banner, this should be its National Anthem...

  • @fer4USA I'm looking forward to seeing that, but don't get me wrong, one earth with a single banner will never happen.

  • @cradlecorpse Eventually, I'm sure; something very drastic will happen that will make humanity join as one entity...

  • @fer4USA well then lets pray for that utopia. but i would be so glad, if I could be proven wrong.

  • So dramatic at 0:58 totally awesome =D

  • this is so grand... I missed so much. It brings the whole nation 2gether

  • The whole audience singing the lyrics. Fucking amazing.

  • Beethoven composed it, but never heard it. At the time of the first performance, he was totally deaf, yet led the orchestra. When the performance ended, he was facing the orchestra, wondering how the audience liked the piece. An orchestra member had to turn him around, to see the thunderous ovation that the piece and he, were receiving. TRUTH!

  • @Georgejmh You just made me cry with that paragraph. Thank you.

  • @mikewill9511

Hey, no problem! I've always loved classical music and can hum it in my head, all day.

  • Yeah, I hope this will be the anthem of the New World Order.

  • I am speechless......... Simply in awe!!!

  • You know a song is immortal when it bypasses frontiers and territories, when nations put aside their differences to sing in unison.

  • @Cutter1018 you.

  • @Cutter1018 You are so right; Beethoven : eternal : gaga : fading --My eternals,( I always imagine them sitting and singing together on pink clouds up there, somewhere over the rainbow): Beethoven, Pavarotti, Freddy Mercury and, maybe, the Great Callas. Anyone agree?

  • I watched this when I was six years old. It stuck in my mind so much that years later whenever I hear this song I still remember it. I couldn't remember what this was, for the life of me, until my parents were tonight watching Immortal Beloved and mentioned these games when Ode to Joy played again.

So now I'm nineteen and watching this again. Been a long, long time. :)

  • one of my favorite parts is right at 2:37. but it's the harmony part at the bottom of the theme that i like:) it just sounds pleasant. I love Beethoven:D he is epic!

  • awesome indeed, epic

  • Only two words ..BLOODY AWESOME

  • WOW!!!! That's what i call an Opening to an event!

  • My granpa would say: "Whole world is singing in German !!! I didn't fight for this !!!" lol

  • @uchicha666 who cares? can you polish only think about ww2 all the time?!

  • @jimtheripper

That was a joke you idiot...

  • Nice.. Next time maybe you could include THE END OF THE FRIGGING SYMPHONY!!!!

  • This whole production was very much in the spirit of the Olympics and music as a whole: coming together and transcending cultural boundaries. A. Ma. Zing.

  • alle menschen werden brüder.... die welt singt diese hymne gemeinsam. auf deutsch. das ist bewegend...

  • i want to learn german after listening to this

  • @jackbeatlessan Better to start with something easy :) That is something which is a little hard even to transalte. Most of transaltiions of this song i saw so far are... well always a little bit different than the original meaning. But i like your comment. Liebe Grüße aus Österreich :) start to translate that :) Beethoven is a Master of Music.

  • @Dukilein1984 U are right...thx....

  • Why the hell would they talk over the climax? that ruins this entire video.

  • after a lot of search i finally found the name of the tenor singing at 1:00

his name is Denis Sedov!!! Great performance!!!

  • @galexstef2 He's a bass :)

  • London needs to plan something similar where many nations are participating simultaneously especially in 2012. That way the whole word can be on the same emotional level feeling of love, joy, and hope, peace and goosebumps too!!

  • WOW!!!!!!!! I remember this.....amazing , many nations singing together at the same time... across many continents... so beautiful

  • Holy shit. 3:15 - 3:36. Probably the most ridiculously awesome, triumphant, powerfully divine, joyful, and bad ass 21 seconds of music ever. I actually had a tear running down my face cause it was so ridiculously awesome.

  • Whatever kind of mood I'm in when I watch this it just uplifts me to my soul: I'm sure just as Beethoven would have intended., not to mention Ozawa, the Tenors and the rest of the world singing! THANK YOU FOR POSTING THIS

  • 01:10 who is he?

  • The world needs this video now more than ever. We need to stop beating each other into the dirt and respect one another and build a common future, We'll share that common future anyway, no matter what we do. Bettter we have the sense to figure out now how to make it work.

  • @ 1:23 all together now.

  • At 2:20, I saw the four pictures from four different places, and I wonder what the world would be like if there was a day when everyone, for some amount of time, just sang in perfect unison?

  • Watching this brought chills up my spine, especially at 1:25 when EVERYbody starts singing. Truly a magical song and an unforgettable event.

  • @Morogoro I truly forgot how magnificent these opening ceremonies were. The Japanese people did a fantastic job. I have traveled the world and the Japanese with out a doubt are the most polite, gracious hosts to their guests in the world.!!

  • @Morogorin

    4:23

    AH LOV BACON ND MEETLOAF

A magical moment, indeed, for all fans of processed meats.

  • @Morogorin joy, spark of god, daughter of elysium, we enter drunk on fire to your heavenly sanctuary!

  • @Morogorin Ialmost cried when I saw everybody singing!

  • Oh, I love the World united.

  • @siskadora When Jesus who is the Christ returns to establish the government of the Almighty on the earth then you will see true peace on earth and goodwill toward all mankind!! This is going to happen very soon but as Satan is dethroned the world is going to be put through much tribulation and trouble. Jesus the King of Kings, Prince of Peace, will rule the earth forever!!!!

  • @hippitybippitybop Oh shut it and enjoy the music.

  • @mrfinn9 ...........I know...RIGHT? LOL....

  • @hippitybippitybop

Spoiler: God doesn't exist and this song is still great.

  • @GenPhilosopher we don't know that until we are dead, so why condemn so early? There are good principles to learn, and why not believe in something good?

  • LOCATIONS OF THE CHOIRS IN THIS SEGMENT:

    New York (USA): UN Headquarters

Sydney (AUS): Host of the 2000 Summer Olympics just two years after

Beijing (CHN): Host of the 2008 Summer Olympics

Berlin (GER): Host of the 1936 Summer Olympics

    Cape Town (RSA)

  • what broadcast is this? Which network?

  • @thisisabadname Your question is totally out. This is broadcasted from Japan and broadcast rights are selled to TV stations (its normal market). Streams are broadcasted across the whole earth through satellites. In many circustances you can catch first stage of these broadcasts directly from broadcast site. During such a huge actions like this there are dozens of them - they are known as feeds. These feeds are received by TV stations, modified(commented, subtitled etc) and transmitted locally.

  • how did they manage to syncronise all the continents. surely signal was a bit late. but still the best perf ever seen or made

  • wow...i'm impressed. must be one of the best olympic opening ceremony moments i've seen

  • Without a doubt the best opening ceremony. Seiji Ozawa is probably still the best conductor around even today.

  • @SugarTomAppleRoger yes! i agree
