I have the same issues - I think I might know why - I think it has to do with the power being supplied to the TV... Try making sure the plug for the TV, and all other plugs in the same outlet, and even in other outlets on the same power line are firmly seated.
My TV was *just* out for like 30 minutes - nothing was working, then I noticed the lower plug kind of loose. Made sure it was in tight (bent the prongs in a little), turned off/on, and it's been working fine ever since.
Thanks so much for taking the time to share your experience with me. Vizio replaced the TV under the warranty, but I'll keep an eye on those electrical connections on the replacement to make sure they stay secure.
@cgfman The problem is overheating. The power supply inside the TV doesn't have proper ventilation, so the heat gets trapped inside the TV causing all the internal components to overheat. You can fix it by installing a small fan inside near the power supply to blow out the heat. There is a USB port on the back of the TV that you can us to power the fan. I did this to mine, and now it works with no problems.
I sit my fan on top of the tv that seems to help.

@malevolentburrito
Can you elaborate a little bit more on how to do this. I'm interested in finding out as my tv experiences similar overheating problems.
First, how large was the hdtv? Mine is a 42inch lcd tv.
What type of fan did you use and how did you rig it inside the case?
Many thanks.
