I have an 05 as well. Mods so far are Cobb double adjustable STS and Cobb Accessport (running stage 1). I'm going to be getting a turbo back exhaust in the next month. I was looking at a Megan down pipe and Megan dual tip cat back, but I think i'm just gonna go all out and get the STP CBE and an Invidia catted (meow) downpipe. The STP just looks so clean and isn't that loud. It's a great car though. I have the Limited and it's as nice inside as Euro sports sedans, but it'll spank 'em.
Is this vehicle just the SPT CBE? ver1 or ver 2? I've heard that there is now a ver3, but I dont know. Anyways if it sounds like that without any other aftermarket parts I will definately buy it. Right now im running the SPT intake and heatshield also.
Silence moron, the lancia delta integrale is ugly as sin and the fastest model ever made was 215 hp and ran to 100kph in 5.7 seconds. The US-spec legacy spec B does it in 5.4 seconds (motortrend) and looks great doing it. Not to mention it's a turbo-back exhaust and tune away from being WAY faster. Dec. 5th my Cobb downpipe, Perrin up pipe and turbo inlet, and protune go on. I'll report back then. And as for Riccardo, try doing your homework before opening your mouth next time, lol.
My bad, I meant to put 24 in town, not 34. That would be weird to do better in town than highway without a hybrid system. I had my cruise @ 75 when I was doing my highway stint. Also I felt somewhat prou that I took a stage 3 SRT-4 Caliber on a 1st gear rolling start. Kept up with him till 80 then I started to pull a little on him.
I'm glad you won, the ugly caliber must be put down ;) But I do have a tough time believing it was stage 3. If it was, there is no reason why he shouldn't have smashed you. The regular caliber SRT4 is good for 0-60 in 6.1 and the quarter in 14.6. (just slower than the MS6) Which would explain the race you described. Idk about the caliber, but the stage 3 neon with essentially the same motor was 310hp/325lb-ft and ran 0-60 in 5.0 secs. I imagine the caliber stage 3 probably makes even more power.
I'm not 100% certain it was a stage 3, but all the local guys who keep tabs on what's what said it was a stage 3. So I'm gonna stick with the story that it was a stage 3. Last night I was up against a coupe Underground Diesel Power Strokes, but never had a good race cause of traffic. Would've been a good race, I have confidence that I could've beaten them.
Well, I drove from Albuquerque, NM to Farmington, NM and averaged 31mpg on that stint. Filled in Farmington and did a whole tank in town in about 2 weeks, averaged 34mpg on that tank. I cant prove the power cause i havent had the chance of putting it on the dyno yet. I was just copying what the owner's manual said. And doing the 1-mississippi method on my 0-60 got me around 5.5 after starting from a 4k rpm dump.
You need to do the math again, because no MS6 ever has or ever will get 34mpg in town. My buddy can get about 28mpg on the highway babying it at 60mph, 34 in city is nothing more than a dream/calculator error. As for the 0-60 times, google MS6 vs Legacy Spec B and read the article by motor trend. (specifically page 4) I'm sure they had a level road surface and an excellent driver at the wheel. The best they could do was 5.9. Car and Driver and Edmunds got 6.1. The factory time 0-100kph is 6.6!!!
No problem, it sounds great doesn't it? I've waited on the accessport and bought cusco sway bars and strut braces first. (they helped out A LOT at my recent autocross outing) I'm contemplating waiting a bit and then getting a catted downpipe, accessport stage 2, and custom tune map all in one shot. That may wait until spring though, if you get the accessport, definitely let me know your opinion on it!
No need to know, it's called the Legacy 3.0R Limited here. (minus the spec B badge) The Spec B badge is reserved for the 2.5L turbo motor with the bilstein suspension.
Wow, really? that's recommended for that car? I'm looking for a 4dr AWD sedan with a 4 cylinder engine. Mostly because of gas prices. I know Subaru's last basically forever, but i just think i can't afford to keep up with one.
Well if you don't need gobs of power you could just get a regular Impreza with the 170 hp motor. It's good in shitty weather (AWD), gets great gas mileage, and requires next to no maintenance. My one good friend has had one for 5 years now and hasn't spend a dime on anything but oil changes. It's not real fast, but it's got a little zip.
The regular Impreza also drinks 87. Cheap, fuel efficient AWD vehicles are not easy to come by. You kinda have to choose gas mileage or speed. As far as 4dr AWD sedans with 4 cylinder motors, if you want mileage you get the regular impreza, if you want a little mileage and little speed you go with the WRX, if you want speed and luxury the Legacy GT is your ride, if you want all out performance get either a new EVO or STI. Other AWD sedans don't usually have 4 cylinder motors and cost much more.
Have you considered other companies? Volvo's S40 T5 AWD sedan is pretty nice. It has a 5 cylinder putting out 227hp / 236lb/ft and mileage is 18/26. After terrible experiences with Ford's I avoid them like the plague, but the Fusion is offered in AWD. I know the maintenance isn't great on VW's, but the R32 is a real hoot to drive. The Passat VR6 is nice as well, but for that price I'd just buy an Infinity G35x.
i might be getting one of these soon. just wondering how they are on maintenance? Like how easy it is and how much parts cost? And also wondering if i could drive easily on mud roads with this car? I'm a storm chaser and sometimes the only way to chase is on unpaved roads.
To be honest, if you're going to be traveling fast on uneven unpaved roads, you may be better off with a turbo forester. The Legacy has very little ground clearance, and I lost even more after installing the SPT cat-back exhaust. From my Y-pipe to the ground it's only an unnerving 5 inches. Depending how bad the roads you drive really are, you might be able to get away with it if you keep the stock exhaust and invest in a stiffer aftermarket suspension kit.
As for maintenance, I haven't incurred any costs yet, and hopefully wont for some time. If that changes I'll let you know. On another note, if you drive it semi-hard it's a gas pig! I only average 17-18 mpg. It definitely hurts, especially because it only drinks the good stuff.
So its a gas guzzler? Even with a turbo and it only being a 4-banger? And it only uses 89 octane? Maybe I'll just get unleaded and pour some octane booster in every tank. I'm guessing its the AWD that's eats it up? Well, I'll just plop a hydrogen injector on the car and get some good gas mileage.
Haha, 89, I wish, try 91-93. I always put 93 in mine, that's what premium fuel typically is here in PA. Honestly, if you're gentle with it you'll definitely get over 20mpg. I have a cat-back exhaust and cold air intake already on it and enjoy driving my vehicle, so mileage tends to suffer as a result.
I can't fathom where you found those ridiculous statistics. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but your stats are WAY off. The LGT can run to 60 in 5.4 seconds, the best the MS6 can muster is a 5.9 with a monster clutch dump. Trust me on that, my best friend has one. Your mpg stats are way off the mark as well, as I'm sure you realized by now. Even if you drive like grandma and short-shift constantly you won't see 30 mpg. I have an LGT and my buddy wishes he had my car over the MS6. :)
djkou51, I would suggest going for the spt exhaust if you're interested in definitely keeping your factory warranty valid. If you don't care about the warranty I suggest buying the Cobb Access port and replacing the stock map with the Cobb stage one map, you'll see a significant bump in power cause it raises boost from 12.5psi max to 15 and install is a snap from what I hear.
Cobb says the new map should be good for an extra 35 hp + 40 lb/ft. I actually talked the local guru at my subaru dealership yesterday and he said if you're only running the stage one map, chances are the dealership will still honor your warranty, but no guarantees. :/
So I just bought my Legacy GT last Friday with the SPT exhaust. (but I have to install it) Did you get an ECU reflash when you installed the SPT exhaust?
My 05 Legacy GT is a Flat4 2.5 Liter with a turbo Turbo. They are available with a Flat4 non-turbo and I believe they now have a Flat6 but it's non-turbo.
Come on dude, you work on the engine and don't know that a "flat" engine is the same as a "horizontally-opposed" engine is the same as a "boxer" engine? They're all the same exact design.
I was initially planning on buying a G35x, but came to the realization the Legacy was more in my price range. I've heard you can have a SPT catback exhaust and SPT high flow intake installed by your local Subaru dealer and most dealers won't void your warranty. Could you confirm or disprove that claim? Thanks!
SPT parts won't void your warranty. If they sell em to ya and install em; they can't void the warranty for putting on Genuine Subaru parts. I have and AEM intake(and a few other parts) and the dealer still honors the warranty on mine.
That's great to hear, thanks for the info! The exhaust sounds awesome by the way. I think when I buy my legacy I'm gonna try to get them to install the exhaust and intake before I drive off the lot with it, maybe I can even get them included in my financing. :)
The G35x has a paddle-shifting 5 speed automatic with manual shift mode and Downshift Rev Matching just like the one that is offered in the Legacy. (I opted for it) It's no typical automatic slushbox, it's a great transmission. After recently driving my GT my buddy commented that the transmission was far superior to the very similar paddle-shifting 5 speed automatic in his dad's BMW 3-series. Im a legacy owner, but for me it's sad to think that this car is a monster.....
Have you ever try a real powerful car?
I don't think so
Flat 6 H6 sounds better than a boxer 4...sorry
But here in europe, we buy a legacy for family and for confort, and a lancia delta integrale for performance.
But i don't think you can understand.....with your heavy car........
Have a nice day.
