Yamaha totally made a whole new r1. Their using the MotoGP technology. 'CROSSPLANE CRANKSHAFT'. rpm revs way way faster. It even sounds almost like an m1.

i just rode one todaY AND it was fing awesome , so much torque and the sound even with stock pipes was incredible, the guy at the dealer said leave it in b mode which is the mapping ,mode A is for race and c for wet weather as soon as i left straight into a but you gotta do it whilst stopped and no throttle on .I want one bad but just bought 2008 zx6r few mnths ago

the engine is yamaha's new "long bang" engine. they changed the firing order for better control accelarating out of the turns. it sounds and feels more similar to a V twin now. I heard it has more torque now too

No they changed the crankshaft and the engine timing. That way it goes alot faster to higher rpm's and it makes this awesome sound;)

i bought mine and love it. had it in the canyons shortly after i bought it and wow!!!!! the tail end is fugly, but nothing an after market slip cant fix. now im just waiting for accessories like the integrated tail light, fender eliminator, black/smoked windshield, flush blinkers and so on.....

For my ear, it sounds like a VFR on steroids. I've never considered a Yamaha, or any other in-line four for that matter. I've never really liked the sound of in-line fours. To me, they all sound like a coffee grinder, which does nothing for me. Although I've ridden an R1, GXSR and a track prep'd R6, and liked them on the track. But this! Just three words.....I want one!

Damn... I've always liked the gixxers over the R1's but I gotta say after hearing this bike in full exhaust sound, it's sounds fucking awesome and will bring out some major horsepower. That must be the Akropavic system. Looks sweet, I just might get one instead of the new gixxer1K.

Well don't get too excited yet. I've rode a lot of bikes and the R1 is by far the weakest literbike unless you are comparing an old zx9. The proof is in the numbers and I think we all know paper numbers don't mean shit. I agree it sounds fuckin awesome! (can't wait to race one against my Gix1K.
