Many churches do not permit floral arrangements on the altar, which is reserved for Holy Communion -- although other places in the chancel may be all right. Remember that a church is a holy place for worshiping God, and what happens there is entirely at the discretion of the presiding clergy. Save the "events planner" for the reception.
