Ustad Sultan Khan together with a sarangi is a great gift to mankind, he plays absolutely beautifully and understands the science of space in music that so many musicians of all genres dont ! - Ustad Zakir Hussain Khan has the technique available in his hands and coupled with true genuine musicality he is phenonamal - they are a match made in Heaven - Live Concerts like this are unbeatable for listening to Indian classical music as the Charisma of the artists is evident to one's eyes and ears.
Magical...& divine..no doubt ..tis Part one....also...interesting note is ustadji.. is shooing off photographers!!!!!!....in todays world.....that is unique...hweva gr8 an artist...!!!!!!!...
blessed to live in the times of ustad zakir ji!!!!!!!!!!!!!
This shud hv been Part 1 wise guy. But bless u for uploading this. Certainly 1 of his most soulful performance. He seems to be high in spirits. If this was 500 years ago, today there wud hv been statues of h as a devta. And he is nevertheless. Talk abt full spirit n ripe in ur art. Everyone who watches is blessed with his excitement n spirit. Gratitude to you Khan Saab. Wah! Kia baat....
Well I think this is one of the rare footage on youtube where Ustad Zakir Hussain is playing in the deep soul of tabla, without the usual entertaining patterns he uses in front of non so knowledgeable audiences. As a westerner it would be very pleasing to hear him in a private concert, free from all sorts of gimmicks implied by the stage and the business of entertainment.
@pratopathak hi no its the slow composition that starts off the tabla solo (like zakirji is doing). It usually lasts up to 10 or 12 minutes. It goes in different speeds later towards the end. This video skips the peshkar at 4:47..

I thought the harmonium was too much...I liked it better with the sarangi only.
akarma 3 years ago
Agreed! The harmonium soaks in the emotion and atmosphere, the sarangi on its own would've sounded much better
