  • The boys need to do a 2012 version. You think it was insane pre-Bush II? Bring back that Yuppie and his balanced budget!

  • Buckskin jackets, tie dyed shirts, bell bottoms, head bands, love beads , Jesus boots, black lights, strobe lights, The Doors .. Janis , Jimmy, Jefferson Airplane ..and what have ya ....those were the days .. guess I'm an old hippie myself :)

  • @judydful jup same here. guess im a young hippie. im 15 so not that old. wish i coud go to woodstock.

  • If ever a song was written for me, damn if this is it.

  • I love the slide guitar in this song.

  • I like your music, Old Hippie, but why do you support a person who disobeys the law and gets imprisoned for promoting illegal shit in front of a cop? A hippie is a politician, but just because nakedness is natural it doesn't make it right to be naked in public.

  • And to think their first hit was Jim Stafford's I Don't Like Spiders and Snakes".

  • Then they allow us alttle weed then take it back. 48 now and I still don't get it. Think I would rather go back instead of forward.

  • I never heard the sequel to that Old Hippie song. Pretty good.

  • This isn't the one I was looking for, but I love it! I'm so glad I found it.

  • This is my anthem I was a Vietnam Veteran when the first version played now my youngest son was destined to become an Iraqi War Veteran when this new version appeared I was 45! Those Bellamy brothers are still sounding good if not better as they mellow like fine Bourbon through the years. Thanks for the posting from this ol' hippie!!

  • This is not the original version of this song.

  • @Manongjojo , Its the SEQUAL!!!

  • Great music i like old hippies!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • 2 of the coolest mother fuc*ers alive. perion.

  • wish we could go back to those days, today the government has gotten a lot worse

  • Obla Di Obla Da

    ☮♥☮♥☮♥☮♥☮♥☮♥☮♥

Old Hippies Never Die They Just Fade Away.

  • man , i would love to see them !

  • Some of the Bellamy Brother's songs remind me of a two-man Statler Brother work. That is a complement to both by the way. Great post, thanks.

  • They wrote this song about my greatgrandpa... they were good friends. He painted their tourbus and a mural for them somewhere.. they were supposed to play it at his funeral but they couldnt make it in time they had a show in Orlando. I really miss 'em.. :/

  • I haven't heard this song in years! And I still remember it. I always wondered why there was a country song about a hippy

  • @stevarino1989 I think its because hippies and country music (well, real country music like these guys play and not the pop garbage country rock these days) are both part of Americana that really is fading away in technology, disrespect, and despair. My dad was a cowboy from ND that fought in Vietnam and died because of it and yet he was kind of a hippie in his own way. There was a lot of guys like that back then when lines began to get blurred...

  • I really like this updated version. They did a great job writing it.

  • i have my tickets to see the bellamy brothers and cant wait for the party to start. Watseka Theatre Watseka Illinois on july 15.

  • Always liked the brothers!! They tell it like it is!!

  • Wonderful!

  • Have met them many times - they both live not far from me on their 2 ranches - great guys.

  • jimi hendrix ladies and gents

  • Could you do a remake, now that I am 55 and perhaps you are too?

  • Bellamy Brothers take of the Watseka Theatre Watseka Illinois on Friday July 15, 2011.

  • These are completely different lyrics than elsewhere, and what I remember on the radio. How many versions did they do ?

  • @yteezi1 I was wondering about the new lyrics and stuff, so I looked up in the info and it said that was a

    Re-Recorded sequel.

  • @RagingWookiee45 Yeah, that was explained when they released it 16 years ago.

  • @yteezi1 There are 2 versions. 1 came out in 1985 and this one came out in 1995.

  • Is there anyone else out there who doesn't have a cell phone like me???

YouTube is the only modern indulgence worth a damn. I didn't know this sequel existed - it is wonderful - thanks for the posting!

  • It was on Yahoo today that Hillary might not stay in politics after 2012.Is that a light at the end of the tunnel?

  • How about 62 now..

  • good days suemckinney

  • And even older, "in a world gone totally insane"..

    Ain't the the bleedin' truth..

Aye endangered species we are becoming, sad but true..they still don't get what's its all about!!!!

Old hippe here..Found it just when I needed to know I wasn't alone..

peace love and understanding..a one toke over the line..

To those that hate it peace, to those that love it right on mates..right on..

  • There were actually 4 versions. Old Hippie Part III (Saved) and Old Hippie Christmas (which had only two verses)

  • @malang73 I know what you mean. I moved to Hollywood when I was 18 to go to school near there- the rent was cheaper in the seedy part of Hollywierd, but want to hear something strange? My first day there it was about two weeks after the L.A. 84' Summer Olympics ( pardon me spell check says I have to capitalize). I see people in bell bottoms! It's 84 and they are still wearing bell bottoms. Then within a year the hookers were gone, but 'bums' they shipped to Vegas during the olympics came back!

  • Just went to SF,CA. Don't see much Hippie left there. I saw lots of artisan, food artisan. I saw a rottisery truck park out side Embarcadero Plaza Park. Wow the smell was delicious. Didn't buy any 'couse line was long and it was lunch time for the office folks.

  • Great tune. In a world that's gone insane. For Rhonda!

  • I like this song, great song....

  • This song is from an album called "Howard and Dave" released in 1985. Has another great song called "everybody's somebody's darling". And also "feeling the feeling".

  • jus werid to listening to this after listening to the latest old hippy version

  • Great song, too bad its so true!!!

  • i remember the it as "he aint tryn to change nobody, hes just tryn real hard to adjust"...hmmm??

  • @ggallinsblood yeah, this is sorta a remake by them.

  • i like this song

  • we're 60 somethings now! i had never heard this song! i never thought the bellamy bros would have liked me and my old man!

  • gotta love the bellamy brothers

  • They always did sound great.

  • This is the local national anthem in Bolinas, CA and also up in in the town of Caspar in Northern California. No doubt about that!

  • amen on how country forgot it's roots

  • The words to this song are so fuckin true!! Way to go Bros!!

  • Hell yeah

  • were all hippies at heart just want are freedom

  • temazo, esto si que es cauntry

  • I lived those days, and I find it more than a bit ironic. In the 60s country music was the haven of our biggest enemies and now country music is where all the old hippies hide out.

  • @Whysper023 Funny how thats works out. I've heard a lot of folks from the 60s generation say that

  • bellamy brothers

  • Bellamy Bros had the original in '85. I like the original better.

  • i think im the only 15 year old that loves country music, this song especially :D makes me wish i was old (no offense)

  • COUNTRY MUSIC is what that makes my day active and alive second only to God, thank you BELLAMY BROTHERS and other great country singers.

  • Is verry good music

  • Steve Gouin, Jimmy Gouin hair transplants.......... SMOKE ANOTHER ONE!!!!!!!!!!

  • Old Hippie here, wish you could have been there..miss those days! But, I live those days...still wear tie-died tank tops and ts, still my have ankle bracelet from the 70s, and wear my necklaces...as I teach, successful PH.D. here...those were the days!

  • SALUTE.

  • I sit and listen to this song a few hours a week on average. I just wish I had more time to listen to it. Makes me want to be an old hippie.

  • yeah me to!!

  • what a great remake. Amen.

  • This is a remake? Who made the original?

  • @tonks78 it is the same hippies that made the first one

  • @MrStrongarms Thanks!

  • SING IT BOY'S.

  • In a world gone totally insane!!

Gheez. Trying to find some balance.

We better or we are not going to make it...LOL

    Love the BB's

  • I walk 4 miles to work and this is my marching song - God bless boys!!!!

  • Thaks to these boys I just did something REALLY silly on facebook! Thanks boys from an old hippy!!!!

  • good music man :) sampling the hell out of these boys lol for some hard techno haha

  • What ever happened to THE BELLAMY BROS??? Thier music was so great, and I personally went to see them in concert in early 1982 in San Diego.

I love that line in this version...

..."he don't know Billy Ray from Garth..."

    Classic! Bravo

  • My wife and I just saw BB out in Branson, MO last week. It was so amazing to see them live on stage. They played for an hour and it was non-stop hit after hit. They still sound great.

  • well....I luve it!

  • @dubete me too, long not heard!!!!!!

  • to all the high ups at the record companies. This is country music . Just in case you lost focus because of your greed.

  • This was done in '95. They ought to do another one about today's world, with the War on Terror, President Obama, and the new intensity of the Green Movement.

  • I've got a father like this.

60 and keeps Vo Giap's pic with a VC flag over his bed. The CIA is tapping his phone heeheeeehee

  • Yo look at the blacklight Belamy Bros. Crumb poster, I want that, anyone know where that is floating around???

  • Love the Bellamy brothers. These lyrics are different from the version i have, anyone agree?

  • I agree. Have to listen to the CD again though. Truly great.

  • Its the same one I have for this song. It's "Old Hippie the Sequel". It's different from the first "Old Hippie". There is also an "Old Hippie Christmas" All of them are available on Napster

  • There is also one where he finds religion.

  • there are two different recordings ---years apart----they are great

  • Its the sequeal version to the original

  • Yep, it's the sequil.

  • The Bellamy Brothers sound as good now as they ever did, Wonderful!!!

    Rock on!

  • the new one is better its progres jus like an oll hippie

  • first time i heard this song was im 1990 in small town in mn, i was 30yrs old,she was 21she played that song for me,made alot of sense at that time,aw ,good memories!

  • One of the Best Songs Ever!!!

  • The live version on their greatest hits CD is better.

  • Not enough hippies anymore

  • We are still here, just inconsequential. Which isn't so bad when you consider the facts. The world has gone insane with self absorbed spoiled brats. Being run into the ground by deaf, dumb and blind corrupt politicians. I will gladly stay inconsequential.

  • Love the song, but one mistake in it. Hendrix didn't play the anthem with his teeth at Woodstock. He did play the National Anthem and he did play the guitar with his teeth, but not at the same time.

  • This song is about Bill Clinton.

  • lol never heard this version nice

  • i do the original! They are both cool songs. Thanks for the send!

  • Hi June! Good to hear from you. I like the wisdom of age. I am 57 so I was right in there in the 60's - I graduated high school in 68 and many of my classmates went straight to Nam. Some of them came home in a box. Would like to know your views on spirituality/religion.
