Buckskin jackets, tie dyed shirts, bell bottoms, head bands, love beads , Jesus boots, black lights, strobe lights, The Doors .. Janis , Jimmy, Jefferson Airplane ..and what have ya ....those were the days .. guess I'm an old hippie myself :)
I like your music, Old Hippie, but why do you support a person who disobeys the law and gets imprisoned for promoting illegal shit in front of a cop? A hippie is a politician, but just because nakedness is natural it doesn't make it right to be naked in public.
This is my anthem I was a Vietnam Veteran when the first version played now my youngest son was destined to become an Iraqi War Veteran when this new version appeared I was 45! Those Bellamy brothers are still sounding good if not better as they mellow like fine Bourbon through the years. Thanks for the posting from this ol' hippie!!
They wrote this song about my greatgrandpa... they were good friends. He painted their tourbus and a mural for them somewhere.. they were supposed to play it at his funeral but they couldnt make it in time they had a show in Orlando. I really miss 'em.. :/
@stevarino1989 I think its because hippies and country music (well, real country music like these guys play and not the pop garbage country rock these days) are both part of Americana that really is fading away in technology, disrespect, and despair. My dad was a cowboy from ND that fought in Vietnam and died because of it and yet he was kind of a hippie in his own way. There was a lot of guys like that back then when lines began to get blurred...
@malang73 I know what you mean. I moved to Hollywood when I was 18 to go to school near there- the rent was cheaper in the seedy part of Hollywierd, but want to hear something strange? My first day there it was about two weeks after the L.A. 84' Summer Olympics ( pardon me spell check says I have to capitalize). I see people in bell bottoms! It's 84 and they are still wearing bell bottoms. Then within a year the hookers were gone, but 'bums' they shipped to Vegas during the olympics came back!
Just went to SF,CA. Don't see much Hippie left there. I saw lots of artisan, food artisan. I saw a rottisery truck park out side Embarcadero Plaza Park. Wow the smell was delicious. Didn't buy any 'couse line was long and it was lunch time for the office folks.
This song is from an album called "Howard and Dave" released in 1985. Has another great song called "everybody's somebody's darling". And also "feeling the feeling".
I lived those days, and I find it more than a bit ironic. In the 60s country music was the haven of our biggest enemies and now country music is where all the old hippies hide out.
Old Hippie here, wish you could have been there..miss those days! But, I live those days...still wear tie-died tank tops and ts, still my have ankle bracelet from the 70s, and wear my necklaces...as I teach, successful PH.D. here...those were the days!
My wife and I just saw BB out in Branson, MO last week. It was so amazing to see them live on stage. They played for an hour and it was non-stop hit after hit. They still sound great.
This was done in '95. They ought to do another one about today's world, with the War on Terror, President Obama, and the new intensity of the Green Movement.
Its the same one I have for this song. It's "Old Hippie the Sequel". It's different from the first "Old Hippie". There is also an "Old Hippie Christmas" All of them are available on Napster
