if you kill them you can collect the treasure with your explorer

im best with the British because they get free settlers from manr houses so early in game you get like thirty settlers in six minutes, and they have royal musketeers and hussars which both are great.

For me, Russians in age 5 are the best, since they are sort of the swarming civilization (strelets FTW), and French are the worst. I'd say the Germans are okay, and I haven't tried out the WarChief expansion in my Gold Edition, but the soldiers you get from trading posts are awesome. Portugeese=bad.

i have been pretty successful with the germans. you just have to make sure you expand quickly, and build up a large population of uhlans. portuguese are definitely the worst, by far.
