James earl ray did not kill MLK. it was Loyd Jowers. in 1998 the king family filed a wrongfull death lawsuit against jowers and ¨other known co- conspirators¨ for the murder of King. a Memphis jury found Jowers responsible on dec 8 1999 and that the assasination plot contained ¨goverment agencies¨ source: wikipedia.

@mac163 : Actually, Jowers did not pull the trigger, but was found to be complicit in the assassination by having foreknowledge of the event and allowing his place of business (Jim's Grill) to be used by the assassin. For this, he was supposedly paid $100,000.00 by a Mafia associate.
