  • Pullups to get bigger, stronger lats? Kipping not useful. Clapping pullups to build explosiveness? Kipping useful. Kipping isn't always a bad thing to do, and these are hard kipping or not. Give credit where it's due.

  • kipping works alot more that just a dead hang pull up does. and helps you to figure out your body and how it works. i have a friend in the marines that does crossfit and says kipping helps your pull ups all together becuase of the reps you can pump out

  • @punktheman dont swing you body like him, shit don't fly like that in the marines.. learn how to do standard dead hang pullups first. try for 5 every day then work your way up

  • why are you all saying he wants to hurt himself/why would you do that? Its an athletic move which requires enough power through the pullup for the clap. If he wasnt worried about the clap he might not power through as hard. Just like people do clapping pushups behind the back for the same reason. Take it from a crossfit lifter, the guys in better shape than 98% of you idiots claiming hes trying to hurt himself.

  • umm, not to eb rude or anything, but in a pull up if your pulling yourself up high enough to be able to clapp, wouldn't you swing your body on the downward? Isn't tha t jus t because your propelling your body upwards? So, i think that this is really good. It's not easy to pull up and let go and clapp then grab again. And i doubt it's easy to slowly let yourself go down after a yank up like that. So, mr brigham...wonderful job, keep it up. Stay fit and healthy, cuz this is super cool.

  • Kipping pull-ups with a clap...or clapping, kipping pull-ups. More difficult than what many of the overly critical on here realize.

  • The dude is 47 give him a break. I do agree that there is what we call a Arch Hollow Tap in gymnastics to aid the pullup, but that only means he is using Stomach and Back, on top of, a powerful pulling action into his clapping pushup.

  • This exercise focuses more on your body momentum then your strength. Don't get me wrong it's impressive, I haven't ever tried it because I don't really see the point, as a normal pull up would be much more beneficial for overall strength but hey, whatever floats your boat.

  • i know it may look silly, but this is an example of dynamic strength. think of gymnastics as an obvious example of athletes who are both strong and capable of great force production. using a 2" bar would add a fun level to this exercise.

  • Not that there's anything wrong with Crossfit or Crossfitters, mind. Just, encouraging kipping is pretty much just a Crossfit thing.
