The authors of the movie are so ignorative about SLOVENIA. If novel were placed eg. in France, Italy ... The movie would be placed there. They are like the magasine in the novel - they don't know where is Slovenia and how it looks like! They don't notice connection between Slovenia and Veronika - both are trying to find their identity and themselfs.

i dont think they were trying to emulate slovenia in the movie, i think they gave it a modern day and american setting which i believe is in new york.
