Michael Biehn........he wasn't in this for very long but he gave a strong and memorable performance as Commander Anderson he was one of the best characters in this
Actually a the seals killed at least one marine (maximum 3 though I doubt that). - we can see a marine's corpse being pulled back at the scene when they're checking the bodies.
No,wait...Candyman Todd didn´t just kill Michael"Anderson" Biehn and David"Baxter" Morse....he also killed Francis X fuckin´hummel aka Ed Harris!
That somewhat untalented, yet scary candyguy killed off the three best actors in the film. What, they couldn´t find a way to squeeze in William Forsythe or Phillip Baker Hall in the Seal Team while they were at it? Tony Todd is a real buzz kill, man.
@eldo59 Ed Harris's character isn't really a bad guy: he betrayed his country so he could get the men under his command (who died) the respect they deserved. He used non-lethal methods getting the missiles, and was just bluffing about firing them. In this scene he's obviously trying to stop the massacre, and later he is betrayed by his truely evil fellow terrorists. (the guys who knock over the stone, starting the firefight)
@mavmach3 Yeah, Charlie Sheen was nothing special in Navy Seals, I never understood how he got to be so big in general. Michael Biehn was such a class act in that movie, he played a good character and delivered solid acting.
One of the best movie scenes of all time. It would just be a senseless gunfight if it weren't for the music, Hummel screaming cease-fire and the scene below the shower room.
@ViciousCritique You may be right that if Anderson surrendered, his team would be alive. However, you have no right to call him overconfident. When the Marines revealed themselves, the SEALs knew that they had lost. Anderson knew very well that a firefight would end in the casualty of the entire team, but he knew the mission. He knew that this mission was crucial, and surrendering wouldn't stop the threat. He carried out the objective until the very end, and he died for his country.
This was a tactical trap. The Marines outnumbered the SEAL's, had the high ground, and outgunned them. Be as it may, the Marines should have at least taken some casualties, but the SEAL's just lost their main advantage. Surprise and stealth. SEAL's weren't trained for open combat, there's too few of them. They were trained for sabotage, assassinations, etc. The Marines would've at most taken only two casualties. Any more and any less just isn't realistic.
@darman242 Hehe...what? "The Marines would've at most taken only two casualties. Any more and any less just isn't realistic." 15 guys shoot at 12-13 guys from an elevated position n don´t even have to take cover, invincible with the high ground n all, which is pretty silly...but u make the assessment that EXACTLY two killed marines are the only realistic outcome. So 1,3,6 or zero casualties is not realistic in a shootout ? Do u freebase or just mash it up and snort it?
Michael Biehn and Ed Harris were great in this scene. This is one of the greatest action movies in film history. Michael Bay's best film without a doubt. He focuses on the plot and has amazing action scenes.
@Ahkofd If you saw the scene before this, a tech marine from the Gulf War hand crafted a new kind of motion sensor device which reacts when the lenses are compromised, something that wouldn't be known to any outside force. But its a movie too (a bad ass one) so don't think out of context.
Yeah, but A) these weren't normal marines. They were Marine spec-ops for black ops. Ie. they have to be pretty tough. And B) combat is combat. You can't train much for it and as both are battlehardened groups they are about equal on it. Now if this was a match of how long can you survive on north pole, then Seals would have won for their better training.
@Pikkabuu these were Marine Force Recon (my dad is MFR) theyre special operations capable and theyre Black Ops ready. I agree that if it was North Pole SEALs would win but in actual combat the Marines would win because it would be more actual combat not CQC but i agree completly
@GameZues umm no???? y dont u look on my channel a vid with all his medals and look at the top right the Marine Force Recon Emblem that u get when u become MFR
Michael Biehn and Ed Harris are so great in this movie. Except Island, The Rock is the only Bay movie where I got emotional, even I could cry in this movie. The rest was very funny.
Bay should´ve let Andersson(Biehn) kill atleast ONE marine...instead he got killed by that punkass Candyman.Candyman also killed David Morse. Fuck candy...
At least one marine was killed here. - we can see his body moved on the top right at the start of the scene where they're checking the bodies. (But if we count backwards, from the demanded 100 million dollars, we take down the families of the casualties, and the terrorists who were killed by our two heroes, than it turns out that 1-2 million dollar would still remain, ergo the marines might have lost up to 3 members in this shootout.)
@bbenjoe Yes....thank you for paying attention to detail. Just watched it. Cool. I´ve read the following part about counting backwards about 10-11 times and still don´t get it.Hummel demanded 100.17 men with him in total,right?Since"83 men were killed under his command." Did u count how many baddies Godspeed and Mason killed? Yes,of course you did and Im not that stupid anymore.:) Okay,3 presumably..but it would have been better storytelling to see them or Him go,to make the Seals seem capable.
When 15 men from an elevated position and 15 other men shoot at eachother the ones some meters above don´t even have to take cover, they´re practically invincible...all 15 below will die without even injuring one of the ones above, despite that when firing, half their bodys are targets...one guy even climbs up firing,no problem. Not even one bullet will hit the wall, Solve this by filming it as chaotic n vague as possible. Great movie, great speech but when violence kicks in,it gets too onesided.
@Sumumabitch78 They had them compromised from all sides. They had no chance, 9mm lacks the proper penetration to go through thick concrete walls, while those M16s and M4a1s had superior fire power and precision at the range. and the guy shot up it would have hit the ceiling not the wall, at that angle the bullets only hit the target or the ceiling above it. But yeah Hollywood spruced this up I guess. (It was Michael Bay's fault hehe)
This is one of the best action movies ever made. And of course, great action movies are either from the 80´s or the 90´s. We don´t see stuff like this anymore. Great script and awesome actors. EPIC WINNING!!!
Too bad you kids don't know your history and what these games are based on. TheRydaddyops910, I couldn't disagree with at all.... THESE KIDS NEED TO KNOW!!
Movie bs. ala Michael bay. The seals were just spraying full auto up in the air, no hand grenades m79 nothing. or drop smokes and scoot back, and they are trained for that situation it would not be easy but i doubt they would just not take cover and shoot around like amateurs.
Navy seals may be good, but in comparison with the sas they are nothing. The sas in the Iranian embassy killed all the armed militants without taking any casualties for them or civilians. Even though the assassination of bin laden was successful, they lost a helicopter and killed unarmed civilians and militants, which is not only ill disciplined, but cowardly.
in dead island you come up from the sewers into a shower that looks exactly like this. to top it off theres dead bodies all around that seem like there was essentially a massacre
Just so all you "kids" who keep posting modern warfare 2 related shit, this movie was made long before that game. So knock it off. Modern warfare 2 is comprised of numerous successful war movies. @TheRydaddyops910 Yeah I hate when I hear retards compare these great scenes to Modern Warfare or any video game for that matter... What a bunch for fucking morons lol
that SEAL commander is a noob for choosing the last stand perk, it's useless in an outgunned situation like that. He should have gone with martyrdom instead.
"I swore to defend this country against all enemies, foreign sir...and domestic" derp, then go after the terrorists in the White House and Federal Reserve building.
Epic ass scene! sucks that the SEALS got wiped out though but yeh in real life i don't think the marines would fire on them but still some might though, i mean money does change people
"You call it what you want!! You're down there, we're up here! You walked into the wrong goddamn room commander!!"
Delivered perfectly by Harris.
Seriously tho, can anyone tell me why the SEALs go into the shower room which is the shittiest chokepoint, when they knew the rockets were in the morgue which is where Cage and Connery go after this massacre using the tunnels?
@vincenzo42 The radar set up at Alcatraz would have made a helicopter landing impossible, and swimming onto the shore would have put them at risk from the sentries. So they had to come up from below, and the shower room was the best (only?) way from the sewage into the actual interior of the prison
I took the Oath as a United States Marine, and I understand where the Commander is coming from, but to open fire on SEALs or any other Military unit fighting for the United States, is agenst what the Marines fight for. No way would i open fire on any of my fellow armed forces.
@NathanGorman28 yeah in reality nobody wouldve fired (My dad is a Major in the Marines) he said Marines and Seals are very close nobody would fire, what would happen was the Marines would take the Seals and put them in cells and fired warning shots nobody wouldve fired, but these "men" werent Marines they were just a bunch of assholes with guns
@NathanGorman28 dude your head is totally on straight man. i am USMC all the way but i respect all branches and you show how people should be instead of ppl being biased assholes.
great scene with great music. it's an extra sad one cause just before they get shot you're reminded they are all american soldiers fighting each other.
Michael Biehn often gets killed or very injured in movies, but always in a cool way.
"Your unit is covered from an elevated position commander". The Marines definitely have the advantage. And they were using M16A1 where as the SEALs were using MP5A3, hiding behind high rocky wall and firing rounds. Otherwise the SEALs would have raped the marines sideways.
@motutapili11 SEALs are good, but not invincible, they were outnumbered, and yes from an elevated position with little to none cover, training can help you shoot, can help you fitter and stronger and faster and smatter, even if they did not have the elevation, the SEALS walked straight into a trap, (that was elaboratly set by the Marines - if they never did THEN the SEALS would have raped the Marines sideways) they were doomed as soon as they set that trap off, all it takes is a single bullet...
@Gam3rzulu . Well Said. You're perfectly right. The Seals are absolutely in no position 2 get into a gunfight with the Marines. The Seals are trained to be better than any other special forces in the world. I have served in the U.S military, and I was among the unlucky few (85%) who drop out from Seal training. I guess BUDS training differentiate "those who wants to be a Seals" and "those who were born to become Seals". I have seen the Marines training, it was tough. But SEALs training's INSANE
@motutapili11 aww to bad, but look at the brightside, at least you can claim that they thought you were good enough to train, I guess they sent you back to youre unit with a lot of potential, I suppose they would have at least have thought of you good enough for force recon. Id say the SEALS are Elite as all hell, there is only a few special forces units in the world that can match them, I dont say BEAT them becuase in my opinion these Spec Ops units are all the same teir of the elite
@supermariokid8 No ones agrees man cause that movie was made in 1996 a decade before mw2.. MW2 was inspired by this scene and used it to the gameplay...
@Her0ofCha0s94 thing is, those are not supposed to be normal marines, but force recon marines. They share a lot of training and insertion methods with the members of USSOCOM (Navy Seals, US Army Rangers etc.) and are considered to be in the same special operations "tier" as the others mentioned. Also, it has become a habit in the media to attribute all of the SF actions around to the Seals. For example. For example Bin Laden was killed by Devgru and Delta operators, but the media just said Seals.
Wow, this looks exactly like the shower rooms in modern warfare 2. I think those video game makers copied this... that or this is just a common setup for prison showers.
@24680kong That was the idea, they copied it just for the nod of the head for the "The Rock" film. Good thing you had a Riot shield to protect yourself from all the shooting :)

A sad scene, but it shows that the SEALs don't show mercy or fear in the face of death. Hold Fast! "The only easy day was yesterday" -Navy SEALs
atruepatriot92 6 months ago
Epic ass scene! sucks that the SEALS got wiped out though but yeh in real life i don't think the marines would fire on them but still some might though, i mean money does change people

"You call it what you want!! You're down there, we're up here! You walked into the wrong goddamn room commander!!"
Delivered perfectly by Harris.
Seriously tho, can anyone tell me why the SEALs go into the shower room which is the shittiest chokepoint, when they knew the rockets were in the morgue which is where Cage and Connery go after this massacre using the tunnels?
vincenzo42 6 months ago
@vincenzo42 The radar set up at Alcatraz would have made a helicopter landing impossible, and swimming onto the shore would have put them at risk from the sentries. So they had to come up from below, and the shower room was the best (only?) way from the sewage into the actual interior of the prison

I took the Oath as a United States Marine, and I understand where the Commander is coming from, but to open fire on SEALs or any other Military unit fighting for the United States, is agenst what the Marines fight for. No way would i open fire on any of my fellow armed forces.
NathanGorman28 6 months ago
@NathanGorman28 yeah in reality nobody wouldve fired (My dad is a Major in the Marines) he said Marines and Seals are very close nobody would fire, what would happen was the Marines would take the Seals and put them in cells and fired warning shots nobody wouldve fired, but these "men" werent Marines they were just a bunch of assholes with guns

@NathanGorman28 dude your head is totally on straight man. i am USMC all the way but i respect all branches and you show how people should be instead of ppl being biased assholes.

Best scene in the film by a long way. Michael Biehn is great here and Ed Harris is awesome.
mrlavabeast 6 months ago 9
I always cry at 3:01 its just so epic.
EpicThemeSong 6 months ago
One of Biehn's best lines (not that he has many lines at all) is when he is briefing the SEALs before the mission:
"Make no mistake gentlemen, we are in the fight of our lives. Against maybe the greatest batallion commander in the Vietnam war, I shit you not."
EpicThemeSong 6 months ago 4
great scene with great music. it's an extra sad one cause just before they get shot you're reminded they are all american soldiers fighting each other.
Michael Biehn often gets killed or very injured in movies, but always in a cool way.
EpicThemeSong 6 months ago
incredibly sad scene, almost as sad as the fact that Michael Bay directed this movie, and it is actually good.

There is a way different ending in MW2 spec ops.
R4PTORZWIN 6 months ago
"Your unit is covered from an elevated position commander". The Marines definitely have the advantage. And they were using M16A1 where as the SEALs were using MP5A3, hiding behind high rocky wall and firing rounds. Otherwise the SEALs would have raped the marines sideways.
motutapili11 6 months ago
@motutapili11 SEALs are good, but not invincible, they were outnumbered, and yes from an elevated position with little to none cover, training can help you shoot, can help you fitter and stronger and faster and smatter, even if they did not have the elevation, the SEALS walked straight into a trap, (that was elaboratly set by the Marines - if they never did THEN the SEALS would have raped the Marines sideways) they were doomed as soon as they set that trap off, all it takes is a single bullet...
Gam3rzulu 6 months ago
@Gam3rzulu . Well Said. You're perfectly right. The Seals are absolutely in no position 2 get into a gunfight with the Marines. The Seals are trained to be better than any other special forces in the world. I have served in the U.S military, and I was among the unlucky few (85%) who drop out from Seal training. I guess BUDS training differentiate "those who wants to be a Seals" and "those who were born to become Seals". I have seen the Marines training, it was tough. But SEALs training's INSANE
motutapili11 6 months ago
@motutapili11 aww to bad, but look at the brightside, at least you can claim that they thought you were good enough to train, I guess they sent you back to youre unit with a lot of potential, I suppose they would have at least have thought of you good enough for force recon. Id say the SEALS are Elite as all hell, there is only a few special forces units in the world that can match them, I dont say BEAT them becuase in my opinion these Spec Ops units are all the same teir of the elite

@supermariokid8 No ones agrees man cause that movie was made in 1996 a decade before mw2.. MW2 was inspired by this scene and used it to the gameplay...
zampination 6 months ago
marines cant kill seals lol
Her0ofCha0s94 6 months ago

24680kong 7 months ago
@24680kong I think it's a tribute more than copying

@24680kong That was the idea, they copied it just for the nod of the head for the "The Rock" film. Good thing you had a Riot shield to protect yourself from all the shooting :)
