Firstly you can never compare games to another .only which ones story kept you intrested . and the characters .final fantasy beats every game in graphic out there. Well i didn't like it much ..BUT there's a shit load worst than this i loved the art and how everyone and everything looked ,gameplay welll it was final fantasy at one of its best ,didnt deserve critisism . the weapon where designed. BUT THE STORY F$#@!ing hell and some of the characters wher SH@T
Haha I love how people are still hating/defending this game over a year after it came out. You people seriously need to face the facts and move on with your lives. This game wasn't that bad, but it was definitely a disappointment. It was promised to be way better than it was, and what we got was just an average game.
Quit obsessing so much, quit crying like children, and get over it. It's just a game, that's all.

@PsychoKrazyTime I love the game, but that doesn't mean I think it's perfect. And I don't care if you don't believe me because I know what I do in my life and you don't. There are people who have legitimate reasons to dislike FFXIII, and they don't make a huge deal out of it and troll people- I respect those people. I'm fine with that. But when people just constantly whine and bash and troll, that's when I cross the line. Don't bother responding, because I won't.

@KatsFaerie Make sure you read the datalog when it's updated, DON'T USE auto-battle (use repeat when needed) and just remember the real battle system shows up in Chapter 3 and it constantly upgrades from there. It's a wonderful game. Have fun! :D
FF13 was pure on Graphics and cutscences that amazed you. ff13 x2 would be not only Graphics and cool Cut scenes but hopfully longer storyline and a world to explore. I think it was just a test what they could do with Graphics. I didn't bother to buy the game as most people would rush to do so. I rented the game and beat it and enjoyed it. Before you buy anything make sure to do some research.
I brought PS3 only to play Final Fantasy 13, turn out to be a big disappointment. 1 button pressing the entire game. I was literally falling asleep playing this one.
This game totally rocks. I have no idea why you hate on it so much. Learn to appreciate the beautiful art that Square has given us, even if it is a little different from what we are used to.
BTW, anyone who wants to make quick $25-50, check out my uploaded video on a hacked retail copy of this game. I got myself 2, sold 1 on amazon, and kept one. Probably won’t last long.
Personally, loved it. I still put some 200 hours into it between now and launch date. It's not the same style as previous games which was good and bad.
Example, you're fighting the very people you're trying to save while discovering who you are and what your purpose is. I liked that whole premise. The bad was, because of the storyline, it was more linear, you didnt really have the exploration like in previous games until DEEP into the game.
Level grinding was a pain but still, I dont regret it
People seriously need to stop comparing this game with other FF games, every FF game is "Unique" and so is this one. To the people who are saying this game is so linear, then don't play it if you don't like it. Yes i agree, it can be linear at times, but the story is good, and the graphic and the cutscenes are just awesome. And if you didn't know, this FF game was supposed to be a "bit" easier for the people who are just playing FF game for the first time. That being said, FFXIII is good :D ^^
NO NO NO ALL WRONG!!!!! I Hate this game, Every FF up to FFX had the greatest story line. sure the Battle system in this game was great, but Whats the point of having a great system if people don't enjoy the game! unlike any FF story line that came before it, FF12-14 was predictable. especially 14, WE DON'T WANT ANOTHER WORLD OF WAR CRAFT! if game makers can some how combine this new battle system whit an awesome story line then, i can guaranty success. i would of done things differently!
@ChuckNorris100000 a lot of people enjoy it. In fact they would buy the game just for the battle system and music. You can't expect them to put awesome stories every single game. They've gone throuhg like 15 final fantasy games and new stories are hard to think of. You say that but though you cannot create an idea or actually make the game. It's not easy, so shut up. let me explain to why i hate this game. growing up Final fantasy was my most favorite game mostly because of the stories. the stories were filled with adventure creativeness and uncertainty. yes this game was an above average game but its not the best the story line was predictable and weak emotional moment were rush and it make some scene awkward. I guest i didnt like the game because it didnt meet my expectation. i was excited about the game but they let me down. yes i can make a better game

@yoyoyo88665 and @nocliper101 I understand what you guys are saying. To some FF Hardcore fan it didn’t do so good, to other it was a masterpiece, but take it from a person who!! HATED!! Turn based games when I played this game it was like a light had flickered on. It was fun as well as dramatic and the battle scenario is off the chain. I’m not a veteran like you guys I’m a novice to the franchise but I can say this if another FF game come on the 360 you can bet your bottom dollar I’m getting it.
My opinion probably counts for nothing in the minds of those who dislike this Game...
But so far, I've played this Game for over 140 Hours (104 hour file, my 100% complete file though I fucked it up alot. Had it on "Slow" the whole Game, accidently, and I wasen't even that great at the Combat System 'til Chapter 13. A 40 hour file which also has finished the Game and I'm doing the Cie'th Missions again. And last, a file I've just became L'cie.)
i beat it took 53 hours and i didnt ugrade all the characters really :/ but the missions are deep and scripted until you get to pulse. the game if not thought out will leave your head spinning and the elder falcie are fucking insane. the hardest boss has 6 million health...
I enjoy both RPG's (Western & Japanese). WRPG's tend to be gothic, bloody, and open-ended in nature. JRPG's, tend to be colorful, artistic, and linear in nature. Contrary, to what the experts will say, FFXIII is a remarkable game (even if I haven't played it yet). I've always enjoyed FF games (played 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, & 12).
@mabeklvista not really, the game is pretty linear at the first half of the game.. you just move forward..only until you get into gran pulse (the second half).. then you can do some missions and walk as much as you like..=)
I heard that this game didn't sell well, seeing as most gamers find that it's never enough. Huh. Why does nobody just ditch the nit-picking and enjoy the story?
the only problem for me to this game is that it was too short 80 hours gameplay more of that was training and crystarium exploring then some 2 min cut scene then another 3 to 4 hours training wish they made it longer with the story like how the character development is

I appreciate this Game for everything it is, though it does has its flaws, it works out by how amazing and addictive it is.
I guess those who have played the earlier titles would complain about this game, but because this is the only Final Fantasy game I've bothered with, I don't share their opinion.
@mujuma Well, to me the game only has SOME minor flaws. The game is still good enough for me to consider it for a score of above 90%. I've played EVERY Final Fantasy as well. I appreciate originality. I love how FF games love to change up the formula to make the FF series stay constantly fresh. It's unfortunate that most FF "Fans" are idiots and they bash every FF when it's out for being different and then they reminisce about the older ones. I LOVE the older ones too but newer FFs are amazing.

@yoyoyo88665 Buddy, let me explain what that game was: -Move through a narrow corridor with no direction but forward, avoid monsters if possible and if you hit them just press A till they die. I'll admit the combat is not too bad but it's redundant, ?I will admit the story was nice but held only one good character...Sahz I think his name was.
@nocliper101 first of all there were occasional branching paths and for about 15 hours the game is non-linear. You don't just "press A". Did you just use auto battle like an idiot? Did you not press R1 for paradigms, L1 for enemy stats, triangle for shortening attacks and square and circle for gestalt mode or use the right analog to move the camera during battles? Besides linearity doesn't mean bad. At all. Lots of people like linear. And to most people there was way more than 1 good character.

Point being, the game's systems are boring after awhile of fighting the same pulsework soldiers over and over and over and over. At any rate, no, Linearity does not make a game bad. This game was as linear as humanly possible, rarely were you given a choice on which way to go and even if you do it doesn't matter in the slightest.

If you hated the battles and still did all the things I previously mentioned then the game SIMPLY ISN'T FOR YOU. It doesn't mean it's bad. All the characters are developed and possibly likeable. Even most FF fans I know dislike it, understand I thought the battle system was good but redundant, killing the same thing over and over and over again really is not fun, walking down a path that you can barely divert from is not fun. Boring corridor action adventure game is boring corridor action adventure game. Fanboys just have this ability to completely ignore it, and play it because it has 'Final Fantasy' written on the package.

@yoyoyo88665 Added- Other then the stupid names (Hope, Vanilla, Lightning, Snow, ect ect ect) I fond that the kids were annoying, Lightning was a bitch (Though admittedly not a bad character) and Snow never ceased to piss me off by his idiotic actions. Sahz (Spellcheck) was by the best character and hell the only good character. A likable personality, he has faults but is generally smarter then rest and more level-headed. Other then that, he has the sense to use firearms.
Never played the game, but they've clearly refined the art of realism - but maybe.. sometimes too much realism counters the glaring flaws of character development.
Still, I keep watching to trailer to hear that STUNNING Orchestra play those strings: FINITE. Grand, HIGH thrilling energy packed with every single note! I adore it!
@1aundulxaldin If you love JRPG an love turn base style an use all character in battle, this isnt for you. If you love to explore like FF8, Wild ARMs series then this isnt for you. The game battle style itself force me to change Paradigm Shift way too much an it gets realy annoying. What it means u gonna change class style to become a healer, fighter or defender. The growth of FFXIII makes u feel weak even FFX did better job using the Sphere Grid. After putting 30ish hours i just rush the game.

@Delvosong um, I had no trouble playing the game. It was easy. I thought the combat system was rubbish though. The main reason for me playing FF is the storylines and characters, and this one (to me) was awful in both respects. I just felt that the game offered nothing new to the FF series, it didn't evolve at all in terms of gameplay (I rather felt it was a step backwards).
The graphics were breathtaking, but it takes more than just graphics to make a good game.
This new anime series has way better looking characters and monsters!

Its that I have to deal with people who tell me that a game that calls itself an RPG yet destroys my freedom of choice, is devoid of exploration save for one giant and boring plains area, has a sub-par story, an easy battle system, and comprises nothing but cutscenes in its length. Even if it weren't an FF, it would be disappointing. Crystarium is just as linear as the rest of the game. It is a pity that I see so many people looking at this flawed game as "A Jewel". It is disgusting...
The best part of the game is the fight and moves grafic + the battlies are really fun and you get the feeling like its whould be an real world you are in :P i think any way

@thequeenofthesun the game did feel kinda short to me. it honestly shouldn't be a problem either platform, look at games like Mass Effect 1 & 2. amazing voice acting and graphics all over, so ppl shouldn't complain it was the 360's fault. i think the writer's could have a made the story more emotional or grasping. wasn't bad tho.
haven't played it yet. can someone tell me if this game keeps on switching back and forth with characters. i heard a rumor that it does. does it do it alot like suikoden 3? that was the only reason i hated that game. i forget what i have equiped and what i was doing.
I miss old finalfantasys where the music was also great but the graphics were so shit you could interpret your own characters and use your own imagination and understand to picture what the characters look like.. soo your like more engaged in the game and i like the new speech they bought in ff10 but i kinda liked to read it and have my own interpretation of what their voices sound like
The stories in the old ones (1-10 not soo much 10 but it was still good) have soo much in depth story
you have too look for the story...if you just play the game and dont really read any of the datalog, it will make no sense and be a very shallow game. i must admit 1~10 was fun because of rather open ended game play, but this game's story is magical and really hits home(somehow). dont get me wrong, i love the classics, but this is a new and progressive strategy as to how games will be in the future. you cant keep the same gameplay as the old games, or youll get left behind

Personally, loved it. I still put some 200 hours into it between now and launch date. It's not the same style as previous games which was good and bad.
Example, you're fighting the very people you're trying to save while discovering who you are and what your purpose is. I liked that whole premise. The bad was, because of the storyline, it was more linear, you didnt really have the exploration like in previous games until DEEP into the game.
Level grinding was a pain but still, I dont regret it

People seriously need to stop comparing this game with other FF games, every FF game is "Unique" and so is this one. To the people who are saying this game is so linear, then don't play it if you don't like it. Yes i agree, it can be linear at times, but the story is good, and the graphic and the cutscenes are just awesome. And if you didn't know, this FF game was supposed to be a "bit" easier for the people who are just playing FF game for the first time. That being said, FFXIII is good :D ^^

NO NO NO ALL WRONG!!!!! I Hate this game, Every FF up to FFX had the greatest story line. sure the Battle system in this game was great, but Whats the point of having a great system if people don't enjoy the game! unlike any FF story line that came before it, FF12-14 was predictable. especially 14, WE DON'T WANT ANOTHER WORLD OF WAR CRAFT! if game makers can some how combine this new battle system whit an awesome story line then, i can guaranty success. i would of done things differently!

let me explain to why i hate this game. growing up Final fantasy was my most favorite game mostly because of the stories. the stories were filled with adventure creativeness and uncertainty. yes this game was an above average game but its not the best the story line was predictable and weak emotional moment were rush and it make some scene awkward. I guest i didnt like the game because it didnt meet my expectation. i was excited about the game but they let me down. yes i can make a better game

Turn based games when I played this game it was like a light had flickered on. It was fun as well as dramatic and the battle scenario is off the chain. I’m not a veteran like you guys I’m a novice to the franchise but I can say this if another FF game come on the 360 you can bet your bottom dollar I’m getting it.

My opinion probably counts for nothing in the minds of those who dislike this Game...
But so far, I've played this Game for over 140 Hours (104 hour file, my 100% complete file though I fucked it up alot. Had it on "Slow" the whole Game, accidently, and I wasen't even that great at the Combat System 'til Chapter 13. A 40 hour file which also has finished the Game and I'm doing the Cie'th Missions again. And last, a file I've just became L'cie.)
I'm still not bored of it, it IS a great Game.

i beat it took 53 hours and i didnt ugrade all the characters really :/ but the missions are deep and scripted until you get to pulse. the game if not thought out will leave your head spinning and the elder falcie are fucking insane. the hardest boss has 6 million health...

@invalidiification You haven't beat all the C'ieth Stone Missions I assume? the last Boss is NOTHING compared to Mission 64.
That shit is insane if you ain't well-leveled and equiped.
He also has roughly 16M HP I think, I forgot. might of been 14-15.
Long Gui's have 16.2M HP and they can kill you in 1 hit.
They take roughly 15-20 Minutes to kill each, for an average high leveled player.

I enjoy both RPG's (Western & Japanese). WRPG's tend to be gothic, bloody, and open-ended in nature. JRPG's, tend to be colorful, artistic, and linear in nature. Contrary, to what the experts will say, FFXIII is a remarkable game (even if I haven't played it yet). I've always enjoyed FF games (played 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, & 12).

@mabeklvista not really, the game is pretty linear at the first half of the game.. you just move forward..only until you get into gran pulse (the second half).. then you can do some missions and walk as much as you like..=)

I appreciate this Game for everything it is, though it does has its flaws, it works out by how amazing and addictive it is.
I guess those who have played the earlier titles would complain about this game, but because this is the only Final Fantasy game I've bothered with, I don't share their opinion.

@mujuma Well, to me the game only has SOME minor flaws. The game is still good enough for me to consider it for a score of above 90%. I've played EVERY Final Fantasy as well. I appreciate originality. I love how FF games love to change up the formula to make the FF series stay constantly fresh. It's unfortunate that most FF "Fans" are idiots and they bash every FF when it's out for being different and then they reminisce about the older ones. I LOVE the older ones too but newer FFs are amazing.

I'll admit the combat is not too bad but it's redundant, ?I will admit the story was nice but held only one good character...Sahz I think his name was.

@nocliper101 first of all there were occasional branching paths and for about 15 hours the game is non-linear. You don't just "press A". Did you just use auto battle like an idiot? Did you not press R1 for paradigms, L1 for enemy stats, triangle for shortening attacks and square and circle for gestalt mode or use the right analog to move the camera during battles? Besides linearity doesn't mean bad. At all. Lots of people like linear. And to most people there was way more than 1 good character.

Point being, the game's systems are boring after awhile of fighting the same pulsework soldiers over and over and over and over. At any rate, no, Linearity does not make a game bad. This game was as linear as humanly possible, rarely were you given a choice on which way to go and even if you do it doesn't matter in the slightest.

Even most FF fans I know dislike it, understand I thought the battle system was good but redundant, killing the same thing over and over and over again really is not fun, walking down a path that you can barely divert from is not fun. The game had a good story, and some good gameplay. Much like Assassin's Creed 1, they didn't mix up the gameplay

@yoyoyo88665 Added- Other then the stupid names (Hope, Vanilla, Lightning, Snow, ect ect ect) I fond that the kids were annoying, Lightning was a bitch (Though admittedly not a bad character) and Snow never ceased to piss me off by his idiotic actions. Sahz (Spellcheck) was by the best character and hell the only good character. A likable personality, he has faults but is generally smarter then rest and more level-headed. Other then that, he has the sense to use firearms.

Never played the game, but they've clearly refined the art of realism - but maybe.. sometimes too much realism counters the glaring flaws of character development.
Still, I keep watching to trailer to hear that STUNNING Orchestra play those strings: FINITE. Grand, HIGH thrilling energy packed with every single note! I adore it!

@1aundulxaldin If you love JRPG an love turn base style an use all character in battle, this isnt for you. If you love to explore like FF8, Wild ARMs series then this isnt for you. The game battle style itself force me to change Paradigm Shift way too much an it gets realy annoying. What it means u gonna change class style to become a healer, fighter or defender. The growth of FFXIII makes u feel weak even FFX did better job using the Sphere Grid. After putting 30ish hours i just rush the game.

@Delvosong um, I had no trouble playing the game. It was easy. I thought the combat system was rubbish though. The main reason for me playing FF is the storylines and characters, and this one (to me) was awful in both respects. I just felt that the game offered nothing new to the FF series, it didn't evolve at all in terms of gameplay (I rather felt it was a step backwards).
The graphics were breathtaking, but it takes more than just graphics to make a good game.

Its that I have to deal with people who tell me that a game that calls itself an RPG yet destroys my freedom of choice, is devoid of exploration save for one giant and boring plains area, has a sub-par story, an easy battle system, and comprises nothing but cutscenes in its length. Even if it weren't an FF, it would be disappointing. Crystarium is just as linear as the rest of the game. It is a pity that I see so many people looking at this flawed game as "A Jewel". This game would be better as a ps3 exclusive it could have more story and everything because it has more disk space. Xbox ruins alot of games Ex. GTA4 had to be downsized to fit on xbox : (

I love final fantasy, i finish up this game now..it was good, but i wish it had more story in it .

@thequeenofthesun the game did feel kinda short to me. it honestly shouldn't be a problem either platform, look at games like Mass Effect 1 & 2. amazing voice acting and graphics all over, so ppl shouldn't complain it was the 360's fault. i think the writer's could have a made the story more emotional or grasping. wasn't bad tho.

haven't played it yet. can someone tell me if this game keeps on switching back and forth with characters. i heard a rumor that it does. does it do it alot like suikoden 3? that was the only reason i hated that game. i forget what i have equiped and what i was doing.

I miss old finalfantasys where the music was also great but the graphics were so shit you could interpret your own characters and use your own imagination and understand to picture what the characters look like.. soo your like more engaged in the game and i like the new speech they bought in ff10 but i kinda liked to read it and have my own interpretation of what their voices sound like
The stories in the old ones (1-10 not soo much 10 but it was still good) have soo much in depth story

you have too look for the story...if you just play the game and dont really read any of the datalog, it will make no sense and be a very shallow game. i must admit 1~10 was fun because of rather open ended game play, but this game's story is magical and really hits home(somehow). dont get me wrong, i love the classics, but this is a new and progressive strategy as to how games will be in the future. you cant keep the same gameplay as the old games, or youll get left behind
