  • Sorry in whatever not very many pixels I meant.

  • He's a god, even in 720p!

  • The interplay in this particular constellation is so AAWESOME!!!

  • Creative genius doesn't begin to describe Michael Brecker. It's probably difficult for many to comprehend what he is playing, but coming from an educated ear and a deep jazz background, I can tell you that his technique is only a vehicle for his innovation and immense musical vocabulary; and his passion comes through with every note.

  • Micheal Brecker is almost perfect!! what a great strong energie!!

  • 1:11 It looks like those angry chords are actually hurting our flugelhorn man

  • Holy crap!!! That was freakish!!! I love you Michael... I really do. I don't know what to say... I have no words... extreme evoked emotion... woh!

  • Fuck my mind just expolded!!!!!!!!

  • wow 8 people didnt like this? WTF

  • Demais....

  • dang, who's the piano player?

  • Good lord...he makes me wanna quit and I'm not even a sax player...lol =)

Ferocious!! There won't ever be another one like him. I'm really sad that he's gone

  • @cweeks3665 Oh my gosh, no kidding!!!! LOLOL I do happen to be a sax player though... lol I couldn't have said it better!!!!! If what I just heard, I heard from a different instrument, I would feel the same way!!! Oh my gosh! Ferocious!!!!!!!

  • that's it. i quit.

  • After Coltrane not so many guys can really amaze me on tenor, Michael Brecker and Dave Liebman (in particular on soprano) are two of em'. Mr. Brecker was one of the best jazz soloist ever!

  • This solo leading up to the end is of legends. Truly one of the great players out of the lineage of modern jazz.

  • where's the rest?? aaaah...I want the rest :)

  • Michael Brecker has left us with so much to think about when it comes to jazz improvisation. His completeness within the moment makes all the valid musical possibilities evident. Man, talk about passing the torch!!

  • from 5:30 and onwards, Michael's solo was pretty much a lesson in the altissimo register

  • @usetheforce207 from 6:22 onwards it starts going out of the human hearing range, but all the dogs in a radius of 100 miles perked up there ears and said WHO IS THAT GoD PLAYING THE SAXOPHONE??!

  • @vanderbiltsax The way Michael played he certainly was one of God's personal reps ! Fantastic doesn't qutie do it justice...

  • La scomparsa Michael Brecker è una grande perdita per la musica, ho avuto la fortuna di vederlo molte volte dl vivo, ed ogni concerto è stato un'emozione unica. Grazie per le sensazioni che mi hai dato Mike

  • @pigio1958

    grazie anche da parte mia

  • Mike Stern on gtr, Adam Nussbaum drs, maybe Lincoln Goines on bass.

  • @turrka No, on bass is Jeff Andrews Bye bye

  • Who's the trumpet player?

  • @testostetron

It's Franco Ambrosetti from Switzerland who plays the flugelhorn.

  • Jesus......................

  • I can't imagine any guy that would WANT to follow Brecker on a solo like that...but it builds character:)

  • Guardala Brecker model

  • does anyone have a clue as to what brand of mouth piece he uses???

  • mike stern having to much fun as always

  • are they lost before 2:45 ? :)

  • what is he doing in 2.45 ?

  • Signaling to the bass player to to go back to straight time instead of half speed line he's playing.

  • Boy, is this guy good. Where'd he get the energy?

  • talk about extended solo.

  • Did I catch a Chronomatic scale on one of dem horns?

  • 1:16 nice expression! ;)

  • Who has this recording? I really wanna setup a trade! :-) I have lots of great stuff...

  • 4:11 is moment which as grown in friendships and strong moments in some people's life...

  • indeed sir :) ahhh this is great.

  • fa paura

  • oh...my....god....

  • From 5:34 to 5:57, the pressure is increasing and then at 5:58 it explodes !

  • I've listen to this like a million times and I still find myself getting goosebumps everytime I hear 5:59. Just amazing!

  • 4:11 is where it's at. that F# major triad stuff over G-. so out. he means it so hard. he throws it in your face. but jesus 5:59 is really sick too. there is sooo much energy there. joey's chords, he's like, brewing up energy and brecker's just feeding off it it's so tight god...

  • Every Michael Brecker solo is "in your face" !!

  • hahaha that is true

  • 4:11

  • God bless you Michael. Rest in peace. You ARE THE MAN!

  • fuck yea!

  • thanx very much guys!!! I remember that concert... In Lugano in Switzerland summer '89!! I was there...Right.. there were Stern Calderazzo Jeff Andrews Nussbaum and Ambrosetti as a guest.. Hey!! I'm almost to cry... the best period for Brecker I think... if you have other tunes from this concert please please upload it!!! many thanx

  • I'll upload a clip on my website next month from the same concert. (michaelbreckerliverecordings website)

    Best regards, Louis Gerrits

  • Look forward to it Louis!

  • I'll ba ck back in a week from my holidays, and will do it then!!

  • adam nusbaum?

    and chic corea?

  • Looks like Michael Brecker :ts, Mike Stern : g, Jeff Andrews :b, Joey Calderazzo : Key, Adam Nussbaum : dr

    Plus the trumpet player

  • Trumpet player is Franco Ambrosetti if i'm not mistaken

  • is the bassist James Genus?

  • @shama2 no jeff andrews

  • Brecker, the terminator...

  • insane...

  • michael= genius.

  • Michael number oneeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee

  • who is that on piano?? is that joey caldarazzo for sure or does nobody know?

  • Correct, Joey Calderazzo

  • what year was this played?

  • 1989

  • WOW, my heart rate just went through the roof. I can't believe the raw emotion that he could squeeze - no - wring out of his horn and soul. I think that was Franco Ambrosietti on flugel, that must have really sucked having to solo after that.

  • This is one of the greatest things I've ever heard

  • It's really great! ;)

  • This is amazing...! Are you interested in a dvd trade for this recording?! :)

  • Okay, now anybody who was ready to step up a,d play after THAT had balls !! Cuz, personnaly, I would've dropped my horn and I'd have walked out of the stage.

  • blow your nutz off, brecker! Da-ehmmm.

  • wow JA22hole that shows how stupid you are if you think that Michael Brecker is overrated. You must really know nothing about jazz AT ALL if you think that.

EVERYONE WHO SHARES MY OPINION ABOUT THIS RETARD, POST A REPLY ON JA22hole's COMMENT

  • meu deus... que que é isso!!!

  • I see this and i think, well, mike raped my pride. But after all, its nothing personal.

  • @1337Pwn4g3 L.M.F.A.O.

  • once the band is in brecker's groove they explode!!

    hulde

  • Can you two private message each other? There's no need for this. Btw Moonwalker, your profile says you're 22. How can you have 30 years of experience?

  • If technique alone could make me play like that I would sit at home and practice all day everyday until my technique was perfect. Unfortunately that isn't the case what so ever. Brecker is a technique beast, but he is so much more then that. His passion and flair and the things he has done to advance the perception of modern day sax playing is astounding.

  • @dprimod I dont know why but sometimes I feel that Brecker lacks feeling and is really mechanical... i of course love Coltrane. Just my opinion. What do you think?

  • @dprimod I totally agree!

  • Brecker had alot of technique, but that didn't mean he wasn't a versatile player. He could play any style as needed or preferred. When someone criticizes someone of Brecker's caliber, that person either doesn't respect others, or is simply jealous. Aside from that, many players like to have a couple 'licks' that they enjoy playing. I personally love the way Brecker played the overtones in his rapid solos and many various recordings on his own albums.

  • Brecker definitely has his own style and his own licks, that being said, he has taken the saxophone further than anyone yet. I think you are the wank.

  • Idiot!!!!

  • NICE line at 2:49

  • I heard some cats in New Orleans trying to say Brecker was all technique...I almost wanted to smack them in the face. He is SO TRANSCENDENT.

  • oh man, just ridiculous.

  • 0.0

    just wow

  • Holy shit! What a solo! And having seen this band twice in the late 80's I can say that this has to be one of the best jazz bands in the history.

    Long live Michael!

  • Can u say burnout? lol. Yep, Brecker was the man alright.

@ Zrandrid: I would definetly have to agree with on that one. Many echoes of 'Trane.

  • simply the best

  • phenomenal!! who is the composer of "nothing personal"?! thanks

  • Don Grolnick

  • F*cking phenomenal. Manipulation of soul.

  • Echoes of Trane's "Pursuance" from "A Love Supreme."

    He belongs to the ages.

  • Micheal is my F*cking GOD!!!! Shit!!!Why does he haft to be dead!?! WHY!!! =(

  • I hear you my man. What a monster he was!

  • Oh, man. Joey is just killin' on this. That Mike was dealin' goes without saying, of course. Nice to see Franco Ambrosetti up there with them. His record, "Wings," reissued on CD as "Gin & Pentatonic," features Brecker and the late great Kenny Kirkland.

  • the late Don Grolnick

  • that was incredible...

  • Check out how scared the trumpet player standing next to him (Franco Ambrosetti?) looks. As incredible as Franco is, not too many people would feel cozy having to follow a Michael Brecker solo.

  • insanely awesome....wow what a loss.

  • `...dedicaded to Christoph B.

  • ...dedicated to Chris B.

  • I love everybody in this band...and Mike always plays unbelievable!

    -steff

  • Or treat as G melodic minor blues - tonic chord as Gminor-major and the IV chord as C7+11

  • Can't get much better then this. Thanks to youtube for all this great video of michael to remember him by.

  • Are these changes set, or is it free? Brecker just tears this to pieces! Jawdropping is putting it mildly.

  • That's a minor blues, written by amazing pianist Don Grolnick. That was on Michale's debut album as a soloist.

  • Oh I knew that! I bought that on CASSETTE when I was on the road. That album made me start getting more serious about learning jazz. The cut with tenor and drums together is ridiculous.

  • G minor 12 bar blues w/double-time feel, flat-six where the five usually goes, followed by ii-V at the end:

    || G- | | | G7b9 | | C- | | G- | | | Eb7 | A 1/2dim D7b9 | G- | ||

  • Thanks for such a detailed reply. Nice to know there are some players out there who know the difference and willing to discuss it.

  • rip brecker. who's that on flugelhorn?

  • rest in peace

  • SWING! His presence here is missed

  • italian Franco Ambrosetti on flugelhorn, if i am not wrong

  • can Brecker split any note on his horn? He has such incredible control over his multiphonics.

  • great

  • sry, didnt read comments carefully :)

  • Adam Nussbaum(Drums)

  • LAOMUSIC ARTS:

The Dream Team: Brecker, Jeff Andrews(Bass),MikeStern(Guit),Joey Calderazzo (Piano),??(Drums)

  • Adam Nussbaum on drums

  • brecker pisses excellence

  • Once again this is an amazing performance from Mike. He is the man!.

  • This was a superb solo. Excellent piano accompaniement from Joey Calderazzo (it looks like the back of his head).
