The log was made from some sort of storage tank/cylinder that i found at a metal scrapyard. It just happened to be the right size and shape. The notches were cut out and the pipes welded on the end. But prior to that it was just some kind of container for gas or liquid.
I'm really surprised more people aren't making concrete weights for things like this. That's the only way I could afford to load my leg press with enough weight to be worth using (four 17.5" x 6" octagons with 2" pvc pipe through the center so no concrete touches my loading pins. 120lbs each, 480 total). Nowhere near the weight I'd like, but the pins are full and it only cost about $40 total, so I can't complain.
Hi.I actually opened a gym just like that, and yes it attracts people.i found out there is actually a lot of people like us looking for that kind of training(powerlifting-strongman-functional).Go for it,SOOOO much fun
That's the million dollar question. I remember that you could get a 300 lb. barbell set for $99.99 for YEARS. Then all of a sudden the price of weight skyrocketed around 3 -4 years ago. I'd look on Craigslist. I have around 2000 lbs. of weight and didn't buy one plate brand new. You might find 40 cents a lb. on Craigslist.
For that you'd have to talk to the guy who actually welded it for me. It was all actually really simple. I just told him what to do and stood there to make sure he got it right. Each piece came out absolutely perfect and cost a fraction of what it would have cost to buy it. The key is finding the right scrap metal. The rest is easy.
Thanks.....in the near future I hope to open a no BS/just business gym! It would be a barbells/power rack kind of place where power lifters and strongmen could grunt, vomit, use chalk and do all the scary exercises that the air conditioned day care center gyms don't want their customers to do. I just wonder if such a place could attract enough members.
I got most ofthe metal from a scrapyard but the material for the handles was actually supplied by the guy who welded the pieces together. It's nothing more than 1 inch round bar that he bent using some special machine. If I did it again I'd use 1 1/4" instead of 1".
Just like I said in the video....hunt around a scrap yard, find something tube/cylinder shaped and then have a welder cut it up and weld it. Your other option is to buy a log online but plan on spending 400-600 bucks plus shipping.

I love the no bs just business approach to your training. I'm going to look into getting some farmers handles built.
