I think the problem is that people aline themselves to parties rather than ideals. Most people don't even know what conservative really means anymore because we have so many big government republicans (hint: big gov is not conservative) and "religious" conservatives. This guy is interesting, but he failed to make some important distinctions. There is a difference between being generous and the government taxing people. A lot of people have equated the two. People should be free to give generously and voluntarily, not through government force. And people should have the ability to found their own charities, not be forced to fund government programs which may be ineffective.

The real spectrum should be 100% government, complete socialism on the left, and 0% government on the right, probably anarchy. I'm a proponent of libertarianism, which is very close to the right extreme of that spectrum, but not anarchy. It's just basic laws, and government limited to national defense and police. This was just perfect, eloquently illustrates the flaws with both parties (not necessarily the people in them). I think rich people deserve there money, as long as they earned it, what pisses me off is when they use their power and corruption to earn more money and trample the weak for their own benefit. I think the problem is that people aline themselves to parties rather than ideals. Most people don't even know what conservative really means anymore because we have so many big government republicans (hint: big gov is not conservative) and "religious" conservatives. My bottom line politically is this: Society will never be perfect, so we should always be experimenting and trying new things to try and be better. This is basically anti-conservative because I don't want to keep things the same just so I feel safe. But this isn't to suggest I agree with all or most of what american liberals stereotypically want. I make my own judgements about those things as we all should but I know that I'm definitely not conservative.

Some liberals at a collage were asked if they would choose to pay about 50000 dollars to pay the national debt. Most of the said no, and when asked why, one of them said "it isn't my debt". Does this sound good to you? Conservatives are just like it. We are a nation founded on Christian principles. The government has the right to express our Christian heritage as its done in a manner that doesn't intervene with religious freedom.

A direct quote from the First Amendment. The commandments in the supreme court were put there because they are the most FAMOUS LAWS in history, not because they govern any kind of influence over laws.
The government DOESN'T have the right to use Christianity when making laws or dealing with the country. This isn't a theocracy.

I agree. Conservative Christians is hard. But there are people like that. It's hard, but it's true. My family and a few of my very good Christian friend's families are some of them as well. All of "our" money belongs to God, not us. Yes, it's nobody's business what we do with our money, but God isn't JUST a person. If we are truly Christian, we use our money how God wants us to use it. And I did snicker when you switched over. That was funny.

@DevilBoyVex umm you have it partly right. Our founding fathers were mostly liberal, but not Jefferson. Jefferson was anti big government, and was a vehement opponent of Alexander hamiltons federalist, liberal policies. And also when the republicans first emerged, they were the liberal party that was into containing and eventually abolishing slavery. So you're wrong about those two guys.

This guy is interesting, but he failed to make some important distinctions. There is a difference between being generous and the government taxing people. A lot of people have equated the two. People should be free to give generously and voluntarily, not through government force. And people should have the ability to found their own charities, not be forced to fund government programs which may be ineffective.

As Mises said, the political idea that Communists are left and Nazis are right is just stupid. The real spectrum should be 100% government, complete socialism on the left, and 0% government on the right, probably anarchy. I'm a proponent of libertarianism, which is very close to the right extreme of that spectrum, but not anarchy. It's just basic laws, and government limited to national defense and police. Those systems have been tried and have worked much better than socialism.

@Speed7743 In Exodus 21, in the Bible, if you are familiar with it, it states "But if there is serious injury, you are to take life for life, eye for eye, tooth for tooth, hand for hand, foot for foot, burn for burn, wound for wound, bruise for bruise." This is how we should be. You kill, you get killed, you hurt, you get hurt, and etc. If we are truly to run our country through God, like the Founding Fathers wanted, this is how it should be. Jail time for murder is NOT optional.
