I did, I couldn't find the 1,000 page stimulus package because they only left if on the website for half a day. Obama has munipulated the American people and they fell for so easily. the thing is that there's not that much constructive criticism you can make about Obama but there's TONS of constructive criticism to be made about Rush. The guy is what makes this world terrible to live in.
Obviously as a person who believes in the market, I'm not gonna advocate monopolies or trusts or anything of the sort. They hurt the economy and hurt consumers, of course. We need to prevent those kinds of things, but you're playing into a false dichotomy.
You assume that the alternative to big gov't is laissez-faire, but it's not necessarily. We can have moderate, minimal regulations to protect people without expanding gov't size radically and crippling maximum growth.
Let's not forget Smoot-Hawley. Hoover passed that law regardless of the fact that 1000 economists petitioned against it. It really hurt us and turned what might've been just a minimal economic downturn in just Britain and the US into a full-blown worldwide depression. And the Fed and gov't regulators were very lax to do anything to prevent a depression until it was too late.
Plus, historians very rarely are economists. So they may claim the market caused it, but what do they know.
Should government be a game? I guess! Republicans are all connected at the hip these days. It's almost like they have to move in lockstep. And that's why they sometimes get arrested in the bathroom.
Been drinking the Obama Kool-Aid too much? The fact is, as most economists will tell you, presidents really don't have much power over the economy. They can't cause a boom or recession. Many anti-stimulus folks are claiming the stimulus will actually cause a depression or make this worse, which I don't believe for a second. Gov't spending can crowd out private investment, but it can't cause a depression. It can only deliver a quick stimulating effect for a short while.
Obama's chief economic advisers admit that, at its worst, unemployment without stimulus would only rise to 9%. Not even double digits! Yet you've got that moron Obama acting like we're gonna go into a depression if we don't pass this. What the flying fuck! Now Obama doesn't even trust his own economic team??
Mark Zandi, chief "economist" for Moody's Economy, made a little bar graph about unemployment and with and without the stimulus. At the end of 2010, all his estimates showed was that the stimulus would keep employment from going over 11%, but it didn't show us actually getting closer to recovery than we are now. I mean, in 2010, according to his estimate, we'd still be at 8% unemployment, even WITH STIMULUS. These so-called economists admit they're just saving face. It's not recovery.
Romer and Bernstein (or whatever the guy's name is), the top 2 Obama economists who estimated the effect of stimulus, wrote a 14-page or so pdf report. It really wasn't all that impressive. These people make me laugh in how stupiod their estimates and explanations were for why this would work. They had a graph that showed that without stimulus, unem. would only be a few percentage points higher at its worst, but stimulus wouldn't really bring us to full employment. Even at 2012.
It'll finally put to rest the myth that only Republican presidents are big spenders in the current era (Reagan, Bush and Bush II). We'll finally see that the Democrats are just as much tax-and-spenders as the GOP. Neither party is really serious about limiting spending. Republicans only want MODEST cuts overall. If they really cared, the least they'd do is NOT pass the idiotic NCLB bill, which doubled the size of the DOE. They'd have eliminated wasteful agencies like the DOE.
Modest cuts? Bull and shit. They gave overwhelming tax-cuts to the big oil companies and buisnesses, which, by the way, you Republicans were ecstatic for when you voted for Bush. Our money went straight out of our assholes 'cause the holes in the taxes the cuts created shot our economy, and what's worse the two illegal wars that cost billions, and valuable lives of foreign citizens.

I don't know where you get the ridiculous idea that tax cuts caused this economic crisis. There were much bigger factors involved, and recessions are to be expected after a boom, which we had after the 01-02 recession, despite what the dems or the media may have you believe.
It's really the same with tax cuts. They only offer a short-term stimulus, and then the economy works on its own from there. I don't have much more faith in tax cuts' ability to stimulate our economy to recovery than I do for stimulus spending.
Truth is, there's really no quick fix. The economy is gonna take a while to recover regardless of whether or not gov't intervenes, and it will get worse before it gets better. Stimulus really isn't gonna speed up recovery at a much faster rate.

Pure, unbridled capitalism can't coexist with "free-markets" as you think of them because capitalism's overriding goal is to make profit the easiest/cheapest way it can, and that way is to destroy its competition any way it can. Monopolies. Price gouging. Soup lines. These things really happened. Crack a peer reviewed history book and you can find this stuff out--don't go to Wikipedia and shit.
I'm not denying those things happened. I do think the Progressives probably did a lot of good, but there may well be some areas in the economy where they went too far.
Besides, it wasn't laissez-faire economics that caused the Depression so much as gov't artificially setting interest rates too low and encouraging too much speculation that caused the stock market crash. Friedman placed quite a bit of blame on the Fed, and Bernanke admitted the Fed had a hand in causing the depression.

Obviously as a person who believes in the market, I'm not gonna advocate monopolies or trusts or anything of the sort. They hurt the economy and hurt consumers, of course. We need to prevent those kinds of things, but you're playing into a false dichotomy.
You assume that the alternative to big gov't is laissez-faire, but it's not necessarily. We can have moderate, minimal regulations to protect people without expanding gov't size radically and crippling maximum growth.

Let's not forget Smoot-Hawley. Hoover passed that law regardless of the fact that 1000 economists petitioned against it. It really hurt us and turned what might've been just a minimal economic downturn in just Britain and the US into a full-blown worldwide depression. And the Fed and gov't regulators were very lax to do anything to prevent a depression until it was too late.
Plus, historians very rarely are economists. So they may claim the market caused it, but what do they know.

Many anti-stimulus folks are claiming the stimulus will actually cause a depression or make this worse, which I don't believe for a second. Gov't spending can crowd out private investment, but it can't cause a depression. It can only deliver a quick stimulating effect for a short while.

Mark Zandi, chief "economist" for Moody's Economy, made a little bar graph about unemployment and with and without the stimulus. At the end of 2010, all his estimates showed was that the stimulus would keep employment from going over 11%, but it didn't show us actually getting closer to recovery than we are now. I mean, in 2010, according to his estimate, we'd still be at 8% unemployment, even WITH STIMULUS. These so-called economists admit they're just saving face. It's not recovery.

Romer and Bernstein (or whatever the guy's name is), the top 2 Obama economists who estimated the effect of stimulus, wrote a 14-page or so pdf report. It really wasn't all that impressive. These people make me laugh in how stupiod their estimates and explanations were for why this would work. They had a graph that showed that without stimulus, unem. would only be a few percentage points higher at its worst, but stimulus wouldn't really bring us to full employment. Even at 2012.

It's really the same with tax cuts. They only offer a short-term stimulus, and then the economy works on its own from there. I don't have much more faith in tax cuts' ability to stimulate our economy to recovery than I do for stimulus spending.
Truth is, there's really no quick fix. The economy is gonna take a while to recover regardless of whether or not gov't intervenes, and it will get worse before it gets better. Stimulus really isn't gonna speed up recovery at a much faster rate.

Pure, unbridled capitalism can't coexist with "free-markets" as you think of them because capitalism's overriding goal is to make profit the easiest/cheapest way it can, and that way is to destroy its competition any way it can. Monopolies. Price gouging. Soup lines. These things really happened. Crack a peer reviewed history book and you can find this stuff out--don't go to Wikipedia and shit.

I'm not denying those things happened. I do think the Progressives probably did a lot of good, but there may well be some areas in the economy where they went too far.
Besides, it wasn't laissez-faire economics that caused the Depression so much as gov't artificially setting interest rates too low and encouraging too much speculation that caused the stock market crash. Friedman placed quite a bit of blame on the Fed, and Bernanke admitted the Fed had a hand in causing the depression.

I really believe they are a spent force. Funny your so against critisizm of the plan yet you have no idea how its going to work. Like I said before, it's not a republican democrat thing. It's the expenditure of American tax dollars in an effort to recapture the economy. I simply don't believe it will wok and prolong misery because these things have been tried before even under Bush, I don't know why you think these bailouts and excessive spending will somehow work now. I will eat my words if it helps out, I seriously doubt it.
