'I do not like the reappearance of The Jesuits ... If ever there was a body of men who merited damnation on earth and in hell, it is this society of Loyola's. Nevertheless, we are compelled by our system of religous toleration to offer them an asylum.' John Adams, 2nd President of the U.S.A
The intro contains some of the heaviest moments in rock 'n' roll history up until that point in time...unbelievable power and Thain was THE key that unlocked it....saw at the Hammond Civic Center in '75?! Blew the roof off the place...
Thanks Schtuletz. I have never seen this before. I saw Heep live several times, back when I was young, but nothing quite as 'studio' as this.
The intro sent shivers down my back. All of the guys going apeshit at the same time. This was far and away the best line-up. Every man there was excellent, though I most liked Gary Thain as a person. He was a very pleasant guy, with time to talk to a fan. A brilliant bassist, too, of course.
1st band I ever sang in...had an old Hammond organ. This was back very early 80's when I began my own rock-band days!! We did Purple, Zeppelin, The Who...but no Heep. Damn I miss those long ago days. and yes-GIRLS CAN SING ROCK!!! Real rock, not bubble gum shite!
Byron reminds me a bit of Freddie Mercury in the way he looks, but both phenomenal singers!
Wow.. Rare Stuff here. Thank You Schtuletz for posting. I love in the interview where Gary says "you have to hang yourself on stage for audience's to be interested, like Alice Cooper." I've never seen this either. It's great, thanks so much.. dw
@santyrush Yes, I've seen him on some of the YT thumbnails thinking it's a Rush clip and it's this band. There's a couple of songs on Demons and Wizards that sound similar to '70s Rush.
@jsilence418 Rush have said they were fans, and one influence can be heard in Closer To The Heart. Listen to UH's The Wizard. I have no problem telling the bands apart, but surely you're able to pick up on similiarities?
@IThinkYouLookLarvely lets see Rush industry accolades respect, huge fan base even John Paul Jones told Geddy Lee, " I have all your albums" uriah heep in the words of Walter Becker and Donald Fagen " their ( heep s) popularity amazes me, trash, I couldn't possibly stay in a room and listen" you are an idiot that has no real taste or ability to discern good from bad it is obvious !
@jsilence418 Deciphered your message by filling in the punctuation and adjusting the grammar. I like all the artists you mentioned and own albums by all of them. I wish you mentioned something I hate. As to whether something is good or bad, it's purely subjective. You, or even Donald Fagen saying UH is trash doesn't mean they are in other people's eyes. I hate most rap and R & B music from after about 1992, though don't have time or any urge to go to their YT channels to dis them and their fans.
@IThinkYouLookLarvelyre So glad you are good at punctuation, too bad you are not much of a thinker though. as the idea of subjectivity has nothing to do with intrinsic value . Some people have a disorder that has them eating dirt , cigarette butts etc I don't think it is subjective on my part to say these things are not healthy to eat . you are not that bright, but subjectively I don't care.
@jsilence418 I don't know how you can come to that conclusion about me from a few comments. "Subjectively I don't care" doesn't even make sense. That's subjective by default! I always try to avoid putting comments that involve saying stuff I wouldn't dare say to someone's face. But I dare say you probably don't have much of a life outside of slagging people off on the internet. Also, why do you even view a UH video when you hate them anyway?
@IThinkYouLookLarvely Once again every comment you make shows how clueless you are! I bet your music collection would induce the cringe factor to the Nth degree! and I am not talking about the music you have because it's quality but you never listen to because you can't get into it .uriah heep lol sure dope!
@jsilence418 I'd still like to know how you got to this page in the first place, but you're not giving that away, so I'll just guess you're a fan of Uriah Heep with a strange way of relating to others who are mostly fans on this page. You also haven't said WHY you think they're a bad band. I'm sure on spotting your dorky comments, some other UH fans might like to speak to you....
@IThinkYouLookLarvely is there anything sadder than an apologist for a bad band lol who doesn't have a life ( or good taste) here! um I would guess you?
@jsilence418 I honestly don't see the point of this argument. You two have gone backwards and forwards and yet have reached nothing. UH is an amazing band with amazing musicians and albums, as Rush. You must be a fan of UH, in which case, why are you trashing them? If you're not a fan, then why are you on this video? You must be one of those, which is it? And anyway, why are you trashing them? Don't you agree that it would be more worth while trashing a shit band from nowadays?
@SLASHdaROCKER Since your question is sincere, Youtube encorages comments correct? what is the point on commenting only on what you know and like? tell me ? I offered an opinion that differed from some one else ! the only negative part was as you have implied , why prolong it into an arguement. I have stopped responding, as my point has been made and Yes there are worse bands than Uriah Heep !
@jsilence418 well, it seems a bit pointless to take time out to search and comment on a video you don't like. But you make a more than valid point, you offered your opinion and I should respect it as such. I was merely curious as to why you demonstrated your affection to UH in such a peculiar way. That's all I really wanted to know, I was not in the mood to prolong an argument.
@SLASHdaROCKER I personally don't think jsilence has made a good comment. He hasn't answered any questions properly we put to him to justify his comments, or made his point as he claims! At the risk of sounding childish, he started by jumping on me (with name-calling) for comparing them to Rush, like I'd kicked his dog. Also, different to his claim, I'd actually stopped responding to the old troll first. Like you, I can't understand people who waste time on videos of stuff they hate.
I agree stomp, my heartfelt appreciation for those that post the songs and videos. I saw Kiss open for the Heep in '75 ..... as I like to say who the fuck was kiss?
Why did it take 30 something years for me to see this video? I would have loved to have seen Heep as a lil kid. I did catch them on Don Kirshners rock concert once back in the day. What a shame...Youtube is the only source ive found for old rare rock perfomances for that i am grateful!
@originaltbyrd - Gary's playing really reminds me of Steve Harris, I wonder if Steve was influenced by Gary? And ******* heroin has taken WAY too many good musicians.

The first five albums are my faves too - especially The Magician's birthday.
The line up on this video is from 72 (Kerslake joined Nov 71 and Thain joined Feb 72)
The first album that this line up made was Demons and Wizards - they went through several bassisists and drummers on the first 3 albums -
Bass - Paul Newton was on the first 3 (Mark Clark had joined at the same time as Kerslake but didn't record with them)
Drums - Ollie (Nigel) Olsson (1st album), Keith Baker (2nd), Iain Clark (3rd).
