They were doing engine runs and didnt read the fucking manual.Basically they ran all 4 up at once,not realising the brakes on any commercial aircraft are not strong enough to hold it at full power.You are only supposed to to test one engine at a time.Anyways they got so confused when it started moving that they didnt think of reducing power to the engines until just a few seconds before they hit the wall,idiots

these morons didnt read the manuel first. the plane thought it was in flight so it automatically tried to correct itself and the rest is history... what a bunch of idiots! "ala camala and everybody suckin sand"
It's interesting to note, since the cockpit was sheared off, there was no way to shut down the "fly by wire" engines which have no physical connection to the cockpit. The fire department was able to snuff out 3 engines with foam, but couldn't reach the fourth up against the blast fence. That engine ran for 9 hours until it ran the tank out of fuel. Amazing incident all the way around. Maybe Airbus has improved the training and required a second qualified person. A $200 Million dollar mistake.
This was not a crash test!!! Just ask yourselves what could they be testing for? Did they just want to see if it could survive a full-throttle run into a concrete wall? This was an accident due to the student pilots who were not familiar with the plane's "failsafe" feature which releases the parking brake if it detects that the pilots are trying to takeoff. That system should have been disabled first but these pilots were not familiar with it.

JM: There isn't anything like that. The mechanic ran it up with a lite fuel load after previous hi-power runs. They went to run it again one more time, but they had burned off a lot of fuel and now it broke away from the brakes. The mechanic made it worse by two things, he didn't throttle back and he turned the wheel which lowered brake pressure to the center gear.

JM: The official accident report is very illuminating. HHacker has it right. Lots of folks have misconceptions about this accident and should read the official report, but what it comes down to is procedural errors by Airbus and the Airbus taxi mechanic not knowing his systems. Airbus should have required TWO qualified people at all times. Etihad was not involved.
@jetfire5091 somebody pulled too many circut breakers to "test" the aircraft engines on the ground, they pulled the breaker that held the brakes on. There was about 4 breakers pulled, I can't remember which ones though.
@ryno200: that's why you stick with Boeing, you set the brakes, they're going to stay set.
JM: I know of an incident where two mechanics ran an Air Force Boeing KC-135 into a blast fence because they set the brake but didn't have hydraulics turned on when they did. That was operator error....like this accident.

It's interesting to note, since the cockpit was sheared off, there was no way to shut down the "fly by wire" engines which have no physical connection to the cockpit. The fire department was able to snuff out 3 engines with foam, but couldn't reach the fourth up against the blast fence. That engine ran for 9 hours until it ran the tank out of fuel. Amazing incident all the way around. Maybe Airbus has improved the training and required a second qualified person. A $200 Million dollar mistake.

This was not a crash test!!! Just ask yourselves what could they be testing for? Did they just want to see if it could survive a full-throttle run into a concrete wall? This was an accident due to the student pilots who were not familiar with the plane's "failsafe" feature which releases the parking brake if it detects that the pilots are trying to takeoff. That system should have been disabled first but these pilots were not familiar with it.

JM: There isn't anything like that. The mechanic ran it up with a lite fuel load after previous hi-power runs. They went to run it again one more time, but they had burned off a lot of fuel and now it broke away from the brakes. The mechanic made it worse by two things, he didn't throttle back and he turned the wheel which lowered brake pressure to the center gear.

JM: The official accident report is very illuminating. HHacker has it right. Lots of folks have misconceptions about this accident and should read the official report, but what it comes down to is procedural errors by Airbus and the Airbus taxi mechanic not knowing his systems. Airbus should have required TWO qualified people at all times. Etihad was not involved.

@jetfire5091 somebody pulled too many circut breakers to "test" the aircraft engines on the ground, they pulled the breaker that held the brakes on. There was about 4 breakers pulled, I can't remember which ones though.

JM: I know of an incident where two mechanics ran an Air Force Boeing KC-135 into a blast fence because they set the brake but didn't have hydraulics turned on when they did. That was operator error....like this accident.
