Too bad these two didn't get thier act together. They look to be a good team. I love draft horses. It's amazing to see such a powerful animal that considers it's work a career instead of a job. I think people easily forget just what these animals did and what they were bred for. Many draft breeds carried knights in shining and heavy armor, they did the work tractors do today. They are the football jocks of the horse world. They love a challenge. It's a waste not to give them one.
I dont think the horses are scared as some people are suggesting, but i do think its unfair to yank so hard on their mouths. When a horse gapes whilst wearing a bit, its using due to pain or discomfort.
If they arent working as a team, then they really shouldnt be made to pull such heavy loads, causes far to much stress on the tendons and joints. Either shows piss poor training, or just a communication problem between man and beast, which i guess is again, piss poor training.
looks like ou could bigger heavier draft horses, i know they aren't scared the way they prance around like that my barrel horses do that before the take off for thei rrun, but those horses raen't that big and the way they lunged forward can't be good on thier shoulders
Caring is one thing, projecting emotions and empathy towards an animal doing it's job and commenting on something you know nothing about makes you a liberal.
I used to have a Paint/Halflinger. That horse just loved it when I tied a rope around the saddle horn and tried to pull fence posts out. She was pulling on it just to prove she could.
Horses can be motivated positively to work. Your horse probably liked pulling. But in general I prefer not to make animals work if they don't want to. I only rode horses around the country side and let them pick up vegetation along the path.
Since I used to work with horses and logging, I'll definately have to disagree that "there is no sense in using horses for such heavy things to pull"... I'm not a huge fan of horse pulls...but if you'd ever been around draft horses, you'd know that they live to pull things ^_^ if you get a chance to go to an agricultural fair, or better yet actually watch a team of draft horses in action, you'll know what i'm talking about...
If it werent for horses pulling heavy things civilization would not be the way it is now. cave men sure werent plowing fields and growing big crops to feed city slickers
i know, horse pulls are an old school draft horse thing....some guys who work with horses wouldn't enter their teams in pulls to avoid an injury....that being said, injuries seem to be seldom, and mostly it's a community thing, friends and family get together...the majority of teamsters 'bow out' when the horses start to struggle with the weight. it's pretty amazing how much weight two horses can pull with little difficulty, especially when it's only for a couple of feet
I agree, I thought this clip was going to show that, but they didn't move the object. It's a cool idea just maybe not presented ideally here. My bad response, but a logical idea originally behind it. I think displaying a horses strength is awesome, drafts are amazing for power!
I dont think I understand... whats the use of this? I mean, it doesn't look like it's good on the horses and it's not that entertaining to watch. So why? I think it would be cool if it was like pulling something for an actual distance...
Sometimes the simplicity of life is awesome. Unfortunately there weren't any flashing lights or shiny things to keep you entertained, I'm sorry for that.
Problem is they are not pulling as a team each one is pulling at a different time. Not to mention they are both about to jump out of their skin.

That is scaring the horses. They don't like to pull heavy stuff. They need to be on a large meadow running and free.

I hate liberals like you. Stay in the city where you belong.

Caring about animals makes me a liberal? I guess then that one could argue that liberals care more, correct?

The horses looked pretty scared!!! I think it's not good for them, too. There is no sence in using horses for such heavy things to pull.

You meant to say, "No, there is no point to this but what you see."
Thanks for answering that. I need reason, not shiny objects. Jerk.
