@IronPriest82 Thanks, but actually he gets mistaken for me...after all, I am older and have played for many years...a lot of the non jazz guys don't care for my style of playing but ask my friend Jon to shred over 50 chord changes...sorry you got me by mistake...
just a question to guitarists in general: why does everyone go for that super muffled-reverby-playing-in-the-next room kinda sound? just a question. don't get me wrong on this, my favorite artist is Eric Krasno and I'm a sax player. i was just wondering about the sound thing. very technical playing, wicked impressive
Great Stuff! Didn't you used to teach at Forrest High School? I went there and had a friend named Daniel who was once in your class. That had to be in the mid 90's. Keep up the great work!
I taught at Forrest in the 90's, Ribault in the 70's and spent 20 years in the Virgin Islands during the interim. While in the Islands I performed at more than 6000 gigs with many great people...thanks for noticing
Who cares, every artist is going to have people that like their work and vice versa for some personal reason or another. At least your playing music that actually requires skill and talent, unlike those pop/rock wannabes who don't know squat about the mechanics of western music.
I think this version was just different and I liked it. I also enjoy the fact that you kept it in the original key so people could learn some stuff easier, whether or not that was your intention. Remarkable style!
the reason why i dont like this version is because i feel personaly that you have lost the original context of the song or the feelings that it invoked, but it is just my opinion and how i feel about it, its not law or written in stone
You are entitled to your opinions and they are welcome...criticism can be a great tool for learning. There are many, many versions of this song and after playing it as much as I have during more than 7000 gigs, the context is bound to go to extremes now and then. After all these years, I still like the song and always find it a challenge. It was originally penned of course by Tom Jobim and it is about the "Girl from Ipanema" contest held annualy in Rio...more later

Possibly you've missed the boat on different interpretations on other's work? It's a beautilfully different angle on a veritable giant of a classic.

mrdislex is probably expecting a more relaxed elevator music.
