  • OOUUCCH!

  • it's dangerous falling off a horse, but it's worse when both you AND the horse fall at the same time, this happens a lot with me...glad you're safe

  • I'm glad that you both are okay, wow. That must have been scary! I would have beenn so worried about my horse I couldn't see straight!

  • Thanks. It's scarier to watch it now (and know what could have happened) than it was when it happened, because it happened so fast. My horse was getting up as I was, so there wasn't any question of whether he had broken a leg or his neck. I did worry about injuries, but we jogged him out fine and then popped over a few little fences and he was fine...he never did like that jump after that, though! You can hear my mother screaming :).

  • I bet! I'm gonna get my horse to go over little jumps this summer. I hope he doesn't fall! I could care less if I fall, but I don't want him to get hurt.

  • The jump he fell over was solid, so it didn't fall with him. I did have a rail over it, but he hit the solid part. If you use jumps that fall (regular rails) you'll be fine! Even solid jumps are usually fine if your horse is experienced and set up properly. I think what happened is that he was wearing bell boots and he stepped on the back of his front boot with his back foot, so when he went to take off, his front foot didn't lift. We haven't used bell boots since then!

  • Yeah, the ones I'll use will fall if he hits them. =] I really don't want him to get hurt.

  • r u ok? tht would have scared me and ur pony is adorable!

  • Yes, we were both fine! It scared me too :). Thanks!

  • OH MY GOD!!! That looked so scary! I'm glad you were okay!!!!! OH MY GOD!!!!

  • wow i'm glad you were both ok! that must have been really scary though, it must have taken awhile to get both you and the horse back together though. I know I would be a wreck if something like that happened.

  • Thanks. It was--I actually got right back on and even jumped him over some small fences (that would fall if he hit them!) after making sure he was okay, but I think I only jumped that fence a handful of times in the 3 or 4 years after that happened (that jump is now rotten, haha)--it scared me!

  • wow scary. It seems like he tryed to add a step or take a step out before the jump and got caught up in it. Glad to hear you are both ok

  • oh my god!!! were u guys okay?

    that was a nasty fall!

  • Yes, we were perfectly fine--after checking him out, I got back on and took him over a couple of small jumps before finishing. Neither of us had any injuries :).

  • ur lucky

  • bloody hell i wasnt expecting that where you ok?

  • Amazingly, yes...both my horse and I were completely fine. I actually got back on after checking him over and jumped him over a few smaller fences to end on a good note. I was sore for awhile but that's it.

  • OMG!

  • that must of been so scary glad u were both ok

  • OMg! thats so scary..... cute horse though

  • wow, happy ur both ok

    thats a scary fall

  • OMG I'm glad your O.k. and your horse! That look like it hurted a LOT

  • Thanks, it was scary! He was completely okay with no obvious pain (though he was probably a little sore too!) and no problems...I was definitely sore and still have aches in one arm where I think I tore a muscle or something, but no major injuries!

  • Wow, you were lucky to have no serious injuries! :)

  • that looked HORRIFYING omg

i've had a fall once likt that... i was borught to hospital immediately. youre lucky

  • hey results vid is finally posted as a responce to the other vid!!

  • Those are the scariest kinds of falls, because they aren't your fault and it puts a little fear of your horse doing it to you again x| I hate that happen to my horse and I, and I was so scared! He flipped on accident like you two did, but it was tough for me.

  • I know what you mean :). To this day (over 4 1/2 years since this fall) I still get nervous jumping solid jumps--even fairly small ones (as this one was). Regular jumps (with rails that fall!) don't bother me, but I guess I still have a fear of the same thing happening--even though he's never done it again! And we were blessed because neither of us was hurt--so many times those falls end up with horse or rider injury/worse.

  • wow. that must be really scary! i have fell to many times to count but never like that! glad your both ok! what was going through your mind when you were going tourds the ground? just curious

  • It happened really fast, but I just remember realizing that I was falling (mostly because I was looking straight at the ground and headed towards it...). I knew my horse had fallen because I put my arm out (as if that would stop him from rolling on me...ha) towards him, but by the time I really registered anything it was over and I jumped up immediately, both to get out of my horse's way (I wasn't sure exactly where he was in relation to me) and to see if he was okay.

  • holy shit! omg r u OKAY?????

  • Yes, we were both fine.

  • oh my god! lol great job on winning the contest!!!

  • Ouucchh

Ive had that on my girl :S

    Hurts =P xxx

  • Ouch! that looked like it hurt! im glad you and your horse are okay. the same thing happened to me-except we were coming back from single stake not over a jump! (i enjoy jumping more than barrel racing though!) lol!

  • OMG i hope u and ur horse are ok

  • ouch

  • omg that scared me! i was so confused; i was like this is fine...why is this called how not to ride a horse and then that happened and i was like WHAT?!

  • that was what i am like!

  • LOL! GOOD THAT YOUR OK! =]

  • you recorded that off tv

  • Really, captain obvious? No one would have ever noticed if you hadn't said anything!

Kidding aside, yes, it is recorded off the TV. Are you implying that it isn't actually me or my horse? Because it is--this video was recorded over 4 years ago (May 2004) with a regular video camera. When I finally got around to joining youtube and posting it, that camera was broken and all I had was the tape. So I played the tape on the TV and used my digital camera to record the fall.

  • haha rofl!

  • Hahaaa

    LOVE that!! xx

  • omg im crying ! :'( ! please say you are both okay ! plz write bakk . !!! xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

  • Yes, we were both fine. That was 4 years ago and neither of us were injured (other than soreness for a few days!) or otherwise affected. I still have him and he's doing great.

  • oh my gosh that muist have been scary i hope you were both ok!!!

  • ahh ok :) yeah I'm just used to working with horses that go lame on a whim. I wish I had a sturdy guy to work with too

  • I don't mean 2'6" is a big jump, I just mean once a horse has loss strength in certain areas it takes time..months..not a few days, to build it back up. My horse was lame and on stall rest for 4 months, but the first time I rode I didn't get on her and jump anything. We waited until all of her muscle and tendon strength to return before we even jumped 6". Before that she was a 4' jumper.

  • I know that, and if he had been on stall rest, I would have taken it even slower. However, he was turned out 24/7 during this time, so he was using his muscles. If it had been my other horse, I would also have waited. But I know this horse well, and he was ready. Over the last few years (because of college) he gets ridden maybe once every couple of months--and he's ready to go every time, including jumper classes, etc. He's just that way--and he's never been injured/sore because of it.

  • yeah if he hadn't jumped for a few months, you probably shouldn't have started with 2'6" on the first day...after not jumping for awhile, they lose tendon strength and all, maybe that tripped him up a bit. Good job not getting hurt though :)

  • If you read the description, we didn't start with 2'6. I jumped him over some little stuff - up to 18" - before that. He was perfectly fine. He'd been ridden for a few weeks before that, so he was fit. And 2'6 is not a large jump for him. He just stepped on his boot.

  • omg...

i hope you and your horse are okay..

  • omg .. that looked awful :S .... i so glad you were ok and the horse too

  • i hate watching horses fall!

  • great jumping apart from the fall.. =( lovely horse though

  • its good that yur okaiii

    but thats rather scaryyy

    and yeeah i agree

before that yu 2 were jumping brilliantly

  • WTF

    how did that happen?

    woah

    i hope everyones okaii though

    tht must have been terrifyingg

  • I think he stepped on the back of his bell boot with his hind foot, so when he tried to take off, he couldn't lift his front foot, resulting in a flip. Because he definitely tried to take off...it just didn't quite work out. And we're both okay--but yes, it was terrifying ;).

  • aww lol that is scary... glad that u were ok!!! ur ride b4 that was amazing!!

  • OMG are they ok?

  • Yes, both myself and the horse were completely fine and got back up immediately.

  • omg...

  • ooh owch

  • omg! that looks horrible! glad your ok! its not fun having both you and the horse fall, then you dont know who to wory about! XD! but seriously glad you guys are ok, it was a nasty fall!

  • :O

    OMGeee thats a horrible fall.

    Glad your okay.

  • I am so happy both of you are alive! That was one horrible fall!

  • OMG THANK GOD UR OK THEN!!!

  • omg! that must have been scary! good thing you both are ok!

  • oh my god! poor you and horse!!!

  • oh my god hope you are ok that looks scary

  • Wow I'm glad you guys were OK, it looked like he broke his neck!

  • id u get hurt??

  • No, both the horse and I were completely fine.

  • omg is the horse okayy?

  • Yes, he was (and still is--that was almost 4 years ago) perfectly fine.

  • thats quite some fall. I'm impressed your both alright! Really pretty horse!

  • glad yer ok he looks great

  • That was very cool. You remind me a bit of me in the way that you're laughing about it now. :) Good thing you aren't hurt! And good thing your gorgeous paint isn't hurt either! :)

  • It's good that you're both okay. :]

  • Whoa! That was some fall! Good thing you and the horse are fine. Nice horse by the way.

  • Why are you recording off the T.V / computer??

    Hahaha that was was priceless

  • My mom recorded it with a video camera when it happened (May 2004) but by the time I got around to putting it on youtube (after I was at school with high speed internet) it was broken and the only way I could figure out how to do it was play it on the TV and record it with my digital camera.

  • When he started falling I was seriously screaming "OH GOD! OH GOD! OH GOD!" the whole time lol is he ok now?

  • Haha, so was my mother :). And yes, he was completely fine immediately. He hasn't done it again (that was almost 4 years ago) and has no issues with jumping.

  • ah that sucks.!

    glad ur both okay,

same happened to my friend with bell boots, she either takes them off now or put on jumping ones.

  • Good thing your both ok... OMG, I jumped when I saw your fall!

  • oh my god i hope you were okay!!

    you looked great before that.

i did that once. like literally the whole thing. if i can find the vid, i'll post it as a reply.

my horse was okay and i hope yours was =/

    hes a cutie =D

  • Thank you! Yes, he got up and was perfectly fine afterwards.

  • oh great. hes so cute and i'm glad youre both okay =D

  • Ouch! Hope you're ok!

And by the way, you're a really good rider! Lol.

  • yowch! ya that did look pretty bad...I'm glad you guys are okay!

  • Ohh that was scary. Did he fall on you?

  • yes!

  • He didn't land on top of me. Fortunately, he fell the opposite way from me.

  • Ouch!!! That is a very nasty fall for the both of you, was he ok afterwards?? Get an equine physio out to see him, my boy had the same problem and was helped a lot with the physio. He will jump bigger fences better as he will be using his back end more and looking UP rather than down at his feet. Lots of hacking and gridwork ;)

  • Yeah, he was perfectly fine. That was over 3 1/2 years ago; he hasn't done it since (and had never done it before). He's improved a lot over the last couple of years and uses his hind end a lot more (not just jumping, but flatwork as well). He now shows up to the Lvl. 1 (3'0) jumpers and has jumped 3'6 and rarely pulls rails.

  • my horse did this when i tried him out - he just caught his foot in the sand in front of the jump and fell on his face! for some reason i decided to buy him...

  • hopefully it was just a one time thing and it won't happen again--they all have their clumsy moments. this was the only time my horse has done it since he was started over fences about 7 years ago.

  • yeah, mine's an IDxTB so he's kinda heavy and on his forehand so he trips quite a lot! but he's improving a lot - just needs lots of schooling when i'd rather be jumping lol! They rarely fall this badly - just clumsiness! silly ponios! glad he was ok :)

  • He sounds like a nice cross though! My horse used to be heavy on the forehand really badly as well...doing lots and LOTS of transitions over and over (like walk-canter-walk-trot-stop-canter-trot-canter-walk-etc. with just a few strides in between) helped tons. Gymnastics work should lighten him up over fences as well! Good luck!

  • thanks for the tips :) i'll try doing more transitions and try some grids too - he's gonna hate me for all this hard work! he's an amazing jumper - clears 1.20 easily - but he falls over the 2ft ones! thanks again xxx

  • falling with the horse makes u pray; what kind of fence is that

  • It's a coop (a solid triangular shaped fence) with a regular jump pole over it.

  • that was scary im like omg..then i read the thingy..=]]

  • thats exactly what happened to me today, riding a racehorse though, he's fine - just he seemed confused as to how he ended up in the dirt and why was i on the floor?? haha

i got thrown a fair way tho - its painful!

  • Glad you guys are okay...why are you jumping so soon after just getting out of an injury - he should build up those muscles again :)

  • It wasn't the first time he had been ridden again after being off, just the first time he'd been jumped. We had been building back up doing flatwork and stuff--I didn't just decide to jump him after several months of doing nothing. He was also turned out the whole time, so he wasn't stiff and out of shape from being stalled, which helped. And as you can see we started with easy, tiny little jumps and he was fine. He was ready to go back.

  • omgomgomg all i could say was omg at the end.........omg......it looked as if he dould of broken his neck! omg

  • wow..did he fall on top of you at all?

  • Nope, he landed on his head and flipped one way; I fell over his shoulder and fortunately landed on the opposite side from where he rolled.

  • that looked terrible bad! it looks like that horse could have broken his neck and you could have been squashed under your horse! good that both of you were okay!

  • omg!! that looked well bad!!!!!! but im glad you were ok bcos that was a nasty fall!

  • ohh I'm glad u r both ok, that one looked scary! u guys looked really good together before that though!!

    -Maddy Bodden

  • WOW! Thank goodness you ok! That looked really bad

  • Can I use this in my falling off horses video?

  • sure

  • ooo wow!!! glad you were ok!!! but he is a vary pretty horse and jumper!

  • omg hope ur both ok that look BAD!!! xxxxx
