Already had it happen many times as an umpire. You've got it easy if you get hit as the batter because your natural reaction is to turn sideways and cushion the ball. Can't do that when you're facing the pitcher.

An umpire's job is much harder than a player's job. A player needs to execute the task of hitting, pitching or fielding. His natural abilities will take care of that for him. The umpire has to stand all game, be the scapegoat for other players' failures, watch for every balk, interference and obstruction, have a perfect strike zone, deal with politics off the ball diamond and keep his cool while doing all of this.

Working out may not help you umpire any better, with exception to speed going out on fly balls, first to third rotation and leg endurance through the course of a game. However, people will take more seriously an umpire who is well built than one who is scrawny.

Whats up with Baseball managers going mental during games? I've seen a few vids of this happening (including Naked Gun). It looks like its all for show. Not too many sports would stand for this kind of disrespect. Funny all the same. Also, while i'm on the subject, what kind of sport condones players using steroids (Barry Bonds and all that). This makes baseball seem like more of a joke than it already is.
