Well played! I play the Irish flute myself. Nice beat, nice tempo. After you posted this, Kev Crawford has recorded Mystery Reel together with Cillian Vallely on their "On Common Ground" album
Well, I'm hoping to get a preamp for Christmas, so when I record stuff on my computer it doesn't sound so quiet. If that works out, more videos are more likely, although my graphics chip is broken and can rarely handle recording video... But we shall see. Thanks for asking! :)
Every time I hear you play you are better that the last time. Keep it up girl, You Rock! Still got to get you out to the session on Wed. If you need a ride let me know.
I wonder how many times I'll have to say it... recording myself used to make me extremely nervous... There was no way I was going to get into it in that situation!! If you were playing with me in a session, it'd be different. Thanks anyhow.
Hey thats really nice i ply the classical flute but am thinking on starting the trad flute is it hard? i play the bagpipes already so alot of the cuts and grace notes ar ment to b the same or so ive heard??? Well done u sound really good
It's a little different from the classical flute, but I'm sure you could make the switch. I used to play classical flute too. If you get a whistle (or already have one) and can play that, the two techniques can come together when you get an "Irish" flute and the transition is pretty smooth.
I think it would be easier for you if you lifted up the end of your flute more. Just a little bit. You look like you are constraining your neck a bit more than you should.
Anyway, you play very well. Nice breath support! :) It all sounds very good all together. :)
Yeah, well, I think that's because I was all tense because of I was video recording. I really HATE recording myself in any form... it freaks me out. In a normal session situation, I'm much more relaxed and everything is just better.
Thanks for your input! Maybe I'll be able to relax a little more next time I try a flute video...
Ah darn. Oh well. I'm trying to do a bit myself. The key signatures sometimes make me slip up though, which drives me crazy. Hope I can do as well as you!
I really need to get an Irish flute though. Dang. I'll have to do some shopping!!
WOW!!! U did a great job!!! my mom plays reg. flute, I play woodwind but not any kind of flute. Is it hard to learn??? i would LOVE to be able to play the Irish flute.
A large number of flute players in Ireland hold their flutes exactly the same....so I'm afraid you'll be thinking we're all very shy...which of course we're not ;-)
Seisflutes is a pretty good player, whatever her shyness may be like (or not)
The sound doesn't suck, just the quality of the recording. The Burns flute and your playing are great. Can you make another recording that shows the sound of the Burns a little better-maybe a vid with better quality? Just a thought.
Wow-excellent job. Loved the tunes and the sound of the Casey Burns flute. I currently have a folk flute-it has an amazing sound and ease of playing for the price. I have a large holed standard on order in blackwood. Which model is yours? It's beautiful.
What key is that in?? cuz it sounds perfect and where'd you get it??? Im sorry im asking so many questions, but i am OBSESSED i with the flute and irish anything so...yea.
five years on flute total, Irish flute three years. I played normal flute for a couple years before I got this one, though I really only wanted to play Irish music the whole time. I tried to do the Joanie Madden thing until I could afford a different flute!
Where do you get an irish flute like that? when i went on ebay, they all looked different. And are the fingerings on an irish flute, different from a regular flute? cuz i wanna play the irish flute and i play the regular flute...someone please help me!!!
Oh hi! No, I'm not too good for you! You're too good for me! What day of the week is the session there, Tuesday or something? I'd love to come out, really I would. I have classes Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday nights though. We'll see.
Hey Kelly! At last I hear you playing the flute and it was....SIMPLY AMAZING!!! I usually play that Last Drop tune from master Crawford...but as I see you've been studying directly from him! You took a great advantage :D
Thanks! I actually learned the Long Drop from June McCormack a few years ago, but yeah, Kevin does play it, and I have had a couple classes from him. :) He's fun.
That's awesome

Take a look at the other comments on posture. Again, this is a typical Irish flute posture. Nice playing. Looks like an Ormiston you have there.
upkilt 4 years ago
Thanks. :) It's actually a Burns...
seisflutes 4 years ago
Ah, yes. Now I see the short foot he's famous for.
upkilt 4 years ago
I'm not saying to bring it all the way up like as if she was playing a classical flute. Just a little bit. Like an inch. You know? =]
But anyway thanks for reiterating.
**And I still think you did very well!!**
And I have a question. Where do you get your music from (assuming you learn from sheet music)?
ucantmakeme 4 years ago
Ah, well, I don't usually learn from sheet music, sorry. I get tunes from sessions, recordings, and workshops.
