I spent enough time around him to say I don't think Iraq was the cause of this. He had been back longer than this clip implies. He and alcohol didn't mix well there were issues every time he drank...he was drunk when this occurred. You don't know the details of what happened that night. I assure you that he is where he should be.

I personally know Chris Timmreck. I fought side by side with him in Iraq. We were there in Kuwait in 2003 waiting for the President to give the declaration of war. When he did in March, we crossed the border as the spear tip invasion force of 3/3ID. We were in Cco 1/30INF. Chris drove the Bradley Fighting Vehicle my team was assigned to. He was a great guy, and Im sure he is. The guy I knew wouldnt ever have done anything like this. It blew my mind when I saw him on TV. Im a PTSD TBI vet too

Man USA sentencing is so much different from Australia's sentencing. Australia's most wanted Tony Mokbel wanted for murder and drug trade got 13 years recently turned down to 8 years. Where as in USA you can get 20- 30 years for armed robbery.

i feel bad for this guy he was worth to the government 1million dollars a year in war and now hes worth 30thousand a year in prison talk about modern day slavery..
It makes me sad to know that this man served his country, and in the process possibly developed a debilitating mental disorder that might have led to the murder of another man. I'm glad he served our country and protected us, and I think that we should try to help veterans like him more in the process of transitioning back to a more calm reality in the US. I do agree that he should be punished, but a psych ward seems more appropriate to me.

I'm an Iraq veteran.. with PTSD... and TBI... and I feel for this guy... You spend a couple years surrounded by constant death and you become immune to it, like death really isn't that big of a deal. You're then put back in a society completely different from the 3rd world country you spent so many tours in and it's nearly impossible to look at the world the same ever again. It's indescribable.

@cessaro725 something I don't understand. My best friend was a contracter in iraq for 6 years. In 2006 he lived in downtown baghdad. but it doesn't seem to effect him at all. He killed a person at a checkpoint. it doesn't bother him at all. nor does the 3 IED that blew up inder his vehicle . Im sure I would have pstd after a month in Iraq, I don't get it.
@tonylee1973 there are a lot of factors of ptsd and it varies from person to person so depending on how bad your tour is or how unstable you are at the start (you may not be at all), you have a etter or worse chance of getting it

We don't play politics, all that matters is the guy standing next to you and making sure as many as your brothers come home as possible THAT's IT. Its not that easy to come to a true decision between him being "right or wrong" or any of that. I think this young man deserves a chance at an appeal, or a second trial. Yes, he may have committed murder, but what really do we know? We are only viewers that watch TV! We don't know what was going on in this guys head, or what caused him to do this! The man he killed, we don't know what he is was thinking. It is really sad what our justice system is doing to these people, especially people that have served for our country! It's really a shame....

This video is definitely leaving out a lot. I knew both Chris and Brian. My friendship with Chris ended when this occurred. I spent enough time around him to say I don't think Iraq was the cause of this. He had been back longer than this clip implies. He and alcohol didn't mix well there were issues every time he drank...he was drunk when this occurred. You don't know the details of what happened that night. I assure you that he is where he should be.

no one is trying to defend what he did or excuse it. He killed a person, a US citizen, a non combatant, in a situation where lethal force may or may not have been warranted. He should be punished, no doubt about it, but a life sentence is unreasonable. and demonizing him is unfair as well. to expect, but nothing, NOTHING, can EVER prepare you for what real combat is like. we are trained well to avoid hurting non combatants but when it comes to people trying to kill US, it becomes a situation of "its them or me, and it DAMN sure aint gonna be me." Even the holier-than-now you would kill someone if it came down to you or them. PTSD isnt something "good" for soldiers and its not easily faked either. The fact that Chris killed someone back here is a trajedy! there is no doubt about it

But when I got there, fought the war, and got to the ceasefire and had to switch to "hearts and minds politics" I found an OVERWHELMING number of people overjoyed that we were there. I personally know Chris Timmreck. I fought side by side with him in Iraq. We were there in Kuwait in 2003 waiting for the President to give the declaration of war. When he did in March, we crossed the border as the spear tip invasion force of 3/3ID. We were in Cco 1/30INF. Chris drove the Bradley Fighting Vehicle my team was assigned to. He was a great guy, and Im sure he is. The guy I knew wouldnt ever have done anything like this. It blew my mind when I saw him on TV. Im a PTSD TBI vet too

I wish him the best and hope that he may be able to get out on appeal sometime in the future. I feel for the family of Brian Anderson for their loss, but I cannot believe that the man I knew would ever harm a friend....he never even wanted to hurt any enemy combatants during a war!!!

Man USA sentencing is so much different from Australia's sentencing. Australia's most wanted Tony Mokbel wanted for murder and drug trade got 13 years recently turned down to 8 years. Where as in USA you can get 20- 30 years for armed robbery.

It makes me sad to know that this man served his country, and in the process possibly developed a debilitating mental disorder that might have led to the murder of another man. I'm glad he served our country and protected us, and I think that we should try to help veterans like him more in the process of transitioning back to a more calm reality in the US. I do agree that he should be punished, but a psych ward seems more appropriate to me.

I'm an Iraq veteran.. with PTSD... and TBI... and I feel for this guy... You spend a couple years surrounded by constant death and you become immune to it, like death really isn't that big of a deal. You're then put back in a society completely different from the 3rd world country you spent so many tours in and it's nearly impossible to look at the world the same ever again. It's indescribable.

@cessaro725 something I don't understand. My best friend was a contracter in iraq for 6 years. In 2006 he lived in downtown baghdad. but it doesn't seem to effect him at all. He killed a person at a checkpoint. it doesn't bother him at all. nor does the 3 IED that blew up inder his vehicle . Im sure I would have pstd after a month in Iraq, I don't get it.

Bombing tribal areas for corporate interests, that's what you are doing in Afghanistan and Pakistan (Waziristan etc.) calling the people who get radicalized as terrorists. And India is using the same 'terrorist' logic against indigenous people in India, calling them terrorists and maoists when they defend themselves against atrocities committed for US companies who want their land.

You know that. You know that Iraq is worse now than it was under Saddam Hussein, and you know that there was no reason to go there, and all you have done is give oil companies contracts to Iraq's natural resources.
You know that most of the people killed in Afghanistan and Pakistan are innocent. You know that the drone bombs have made things worse, not better.

@derdriui When you're fighting in combat there is absolutely no point in looking for justification. We don't play politics, all that matters is the guy standing next to you and making sure as many as your brothers come home as possible THAT's IT. I wasn't on a "hearts and minds" peacekeeping mission. You obviously have relatively little understanding of how foreign policy must sometimes be enacted with force, even President Obama realized that and I applaud him for continued drone strikes.

Its not that easy to come to a true decision between him being "right or wrong" or any of that. Its that he did time in WAR, it has NOTHING to do with "he fought for his country crap", TRUE soldiers that have been through war have already gone through something that makes inmates on the westcoast crap themselves. The point is that this guy has already been put through far worse than hell, he served a sentence worse than life, he had a Tour of Duty.
