The reason they had the rescued hostages cuffed still was because the "rescue" was a staged movement of the prisoners. It was later in the helicopter, as they were being transported, when they were informed of their freedom.
It's common practice for hostages that have been held for a long time. The rescuers don't know what mental state they are in so they cuff them until they are in a secure area.

No, what the Colombian officials said was that there was no involvement from another country in the operation itself. They did admit however that they borrowed EQUIPMENT from the US. But they said that the planning and the implementation of the operation was done by Colombian intelligence and the Colombian armed forces. That is what the officials say that the country should be proud of.

If the US wasnt the number 1 consumer of all drugs, other countries wouldnt have a reason to produce them. Yes, per capita the U.S. is the largest consumer of cocaine.. we only make up a small portion of the worlds population however. To think that even having every single person in the U.S. stop doing drugs would even dent the world drug trade is just awful math.

When there was a prohibiton, an extensive bureaucracy was built to control booze. When prohibition stopped in early 20th century, they started controlling drugs so they dont loose their fat paycheck jobs.

Why do the FARC exist? Is it that poor people in Columbia are forced to work like dogs just to exist and their children can't get an education because land owners and fruit companies force them to work like slaves in mosquito infested plantations?
The FARC have a lousy policy of taking hostages. I hate hostage taking. But those guilty of upholding the oppressive regimes which force children to labour in fields just so their families can exist in misery, should be tried and jailed.

No, what the Colombian officials said was that there was no involvement from another country in the operation itself. They did admit however that they borrowed EQUIPMENT from the US. But they said that the planning and the implementation of the operation was done by Colombian intelligence and the Colombian armed forces. That is what the officials say that the country should be proud of.

no....that is just not true. The plans for the operation were made by an International team...there were only Columbians on board the Heli..for obvious reasons. What I am saying is that FARC kidnapped a PRESIDENTIAL CANDIDATE...and it took them SIX years to get her back...that is a SHAME. The same "Pride" Columbia is feeling right now is the same "Pride" that kept them from allowing outside help this long..because they could NOT do it on their own!

I want to make it clear. I think it is a great thing that this "International" effort was so successful. I was elated to see the victims reunited with family a friends, however I feel that I am by no means out of line when I say that it took "Six(6)" years for the Col. government to get these people back!
It took this long because they did "not" want to accept the help of America. People always want to criticize the U.S. for taking action, yet don't seem to care, as long as it benefits "them"!
