I don't think an AK looks right loaded down with rails, or with polymer furniture for that matter. But having the ability to swap the barrel (to a shorter barrel or even a longer heavier barrel) seems pretty handy. If they can make it so you can still switch the hand guards out, that would be awesome. Perhaps make an quick detach adapter for the stock, so you gain a little LOP and still have the ability to swap out furniture.
i think for that concept to work someone needs to make quick release front trunnion and sbr barrels in different calibers to. It has alot of potential.
cool idea ......but the AK has been around so long because its cheap to build, limited amount of parts and goes bang every time. People need to stop trying to convert the AK to an AR
This, coupled with the ability to take AR mags would make the AK a modular platform. Meaning that with the push of a button, you can change calibers much like an AR.
@MrRunyon The AR was designed to do this kind of stuff, not the AK. There's no point changing calibers if you design the rifle to shoot the right caliber in the first place.
but it will not be easy to sell en US, because the US government is so scared of terrorist, and if they fin out that the receiver will fit in a 10 size shoe box, they WILL be terrified!!!
I think it's super neat... but for 1500-2000 for an ak... it's not worth it in my opinion. AKs were made to be cheap and reliable. If they could adapt it to current aks, that would be a different story
What happened to them saying that they were going to release their new stock at 2012 SHOT? A decent US made AK stock I can use. A take-down AK is the answer to a non-existent problem.
Indeed. The idea of a break down AK is very unique. I for one would love to see it happen. Alot of work would need to go into concept and testing to keep the reliability on par with a solid AK platform. Million dollar question MAC.....can it happen? And still be afforded by the average sheepdog?
@FadedHexx They are working to both make it happen and to keep it as affordable as possible. Initially they built the prototypes on Arsenal rifles. But they are working with other AK makers who have more affordable rifles to see if they can get the cost down. For them it's about quality and building it right. But don't be surprised if it winds up in the $1,500 to $2,000 range. Hopefully it's less than $1,500 though. They didn't give a price estimate, as it's too early to tell.

I wonder if this can be adapted for the PSL series - would be handy for a Suarez Guerilla Sniper Rifle...

Being able to put on a heavy mg barrel wouldn't be a bad option either. Go from a carbine to a drum fed weapon for suppressive fire in 20 seconds.

It probably brings numerous design and reliability with it. If the Russians didn't design the AK to take down like this, then it wasn't meant to be.

I here the gears turning for wildcats of the 7.62x39...not simply barrel lenght/grip/sight configurations.
The AK is starting to catch up to the M16 in R&D. Soon it will be as different as the M16 is today from the original POS it was.Awesome!
