  • thanksss!!

  • i've also heard this called a "ragtime" picking pattern. not sure if its that or travis. sounds like you're a couple notes off, but the pattern is good

  • how can you learn the chords faster.

  • @doreen622

practise, practise and practise a little more..

just have patience and keep on playing..and also try to play the cords in different orders..and last but not least..enjoy playing and keep in mind that it will all come together someday, how hard it may seem to be at the moment ;)

  • I feel finger style or picking requires tons of patience and commitment than just using a pick. i am on my 2nd year of lessons in standard picking.

  • very nice tutorial for beginer!!

  • thats all?

    :D oh cool

  • travis picking pattern?

  • @CarlLewisC yeah

  • Its my favorite part of the song :) i like playing it again and again and again!!

  • Is this guitar nashville tuned? Because im playing this to the freakin letter and it doesnt sound right.

  • good video man :) congratulations your page is very good

  • wow all it took me was the time for the video to play twice to learn this:))

  • OH MY GOSH! CAN SOMEONE PLLEASSEEE EXPLAIN THE G7 TO ME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!??????????? IM STUCK ON THAT! PLEASE HELP! THANKS SOOO MUCH!

  • @framinghanleyluver72 Google "G7 chord" , lol

  • I can already play this and i just started playing guitar for 2 weeks(:!!

  • AMAZING!

thank you so much i leaned this song so quickly from ur video it helped so much !!!! :)

  • @mincheol1 same for me. Good stuff :)

  • Am I good if I can play this? I have been playing acoustic guitar for 4 months

  • @SweSk8ter

    Yeah, you are =)

  • I don't want to put this guy down or anything but if you take guitar seriously then don't learn this finger pattern. I speak from experience, unlearning something is tough. I wasted over a year on a different pattern and now i have to start over. Strict pima system for beginners. The thumb should always do the alternating on the three lowest strings DAE. Search 'pima guitar'. The best guitarists in the world all have a classical background and that means PIMA.

  • @moleqle

What you'r saying is so wrong and ponts to a lack of knowledge..

1st people forge their own finger picking (it's not always by the book)

2nd in some songs the thumb is playing the e the B and the G strings cause it's more comfortable and faster and visa versa

  • @EmTheBestRapper doesn't Justin Sandercoe teach Pima? I'm talking basics for beginners here and i suggest you ask Justin himself. I'm pretty sure any good teacher would agree when it comes to fingerstyle you have to get the thumb alternating without even thinking about it, then you can try different patterns.I bet even Marty would agree on that and he's a blues man. If i'm wrong i'll gladly admit it, but i think it's you who is in ignorance on this particular occasion.

  • i learned in less than thirty minutes! great teaching! well, at least!

  • nice and simple. thank you very much sir. :)

  • how do you do the last thingy the g7 or whatever it is how to put place my fingers wich fingers goes where?

  • @psphacksforus-how about you make your own video then!!! if you know it soo well

  • Thanks,

I learned it in a few minutes! :D

  • this is incorrect

  • I wanna learn the song after this part :/

  • god bless u. what a patience to help us who dont know how to play.

  • Excellent!!!! I Love this Song

  • I want the rest....pleaseeee...=(

  • The finger picking pattern was wrong in this video....the thumb should be alternating back & forth on the A & D strings , while picking the melody with the index and ring fingers, i.e., Travis style finger picking.

  • @jmccullah well i wish someone would show us newbies the correct finger patterns cuz all this wrong way of teaching is throwing me off!

  • thank you very much

  • SIR E.J. ROCKS ***

  • What is the C7+ chord? Somebody please help me...

  • @Todoslosfritos it's like the C chord but without the index finger on the B string.

  • n1 m8, i'll try this, not really tried any finger picking guitar yet :)

  • @rhythm2007mc It's quite easy actually, the first riff/song I could fingerpick was Nothing Else Matters by Metallica the second one was the verse of Fade to Black by Metallica, I'm having lots more trouble with this song because I'm not familliar with the chords yet. xD

  • just awesome

  • great song. i just wrote a song and was looking for feed back from fellow guitarist if you could help with this it would be appreciated. A Time with Friends-pnsjams

  • i want to learn how to play thai but im not good at picking fingurepicking like that

  • very very very nice video it's very heart touching sound..:) :)

  • Thank you for slowing it down! A big help.

  • lol i like this vid because of 2 reasons. he gonna be playing in STP and cause it's sweet playing.

  • This would be better if you talked, because its easier too comprehend when somebody explains it.

  • PLEASE MAKE MORE VIDEOS LIKE THIS!!! Your lessons are the best in Youtube!

  • The song needs to in Nashville tuning so don't attempt it if you haven't already done so.

  • @comingchampion You're mistaken.....

  • It a pretty simple song really just the fingering is the difficulty

  • Thanks very much for this very good lesson !

    From France !

  • Garbage. This will not show you how to play the song.

  • @MrHeadlessmusician correction *this will not show BEGINNERS like you how to play the song .

  • @DEVAN4LIFE All this video will show you is how to play the intro. The intro is the easiest part.

  • why is everybody saying the pattern is "a+b, d, g, a, b, d, g" even though the guy in the vid is playing "a+b, d, g, a, b, G, D"

  • @Toothpasteification

    Because it's true. I also play a+b, d, g, a, b, g, d. I think it sounds good, but Kansas actually plays d,g.

  • =YOU=

    makethebigneededCHANGE with-music-song 2011 *

  • Nice vids, keep 'em coming

  • guitarists! pls check my video

  • Correct me if I'm wrong ..but the "tabs" displayed were showing the "A-minor" in the left handed configuration ......but the guitarist in the video appears to be right handed ! Confusing at best !

  • This is amazing, i learned this within 30 minutes, and ive been playing for 2 years... but i kept playing it for 2 hours straight

  • @sireltonjohn what guitar are you using?

  • thats not the picking pattern, that may sound right, but there are 2 guitars playing..

    The picking pattern is

    (2,5)-4-3-5-2-4-3

  • the best video teaching

  • @TheThisosMeta i know man is good on this

  • What strings are you using, plz and thx

  • i sang that song in choir in 2002 i was in show choir just wanted to pitn that out

  • @MrMaestranza Thats harsh its just a name! Go put a video of your self teaching the song to everyone i'm sure it wouldnt be that good. Obviously he's not that bad with 3,873 likes so go insult someone else :) x

  • @MrMaestranza Elton John has talent? nah im just kidding haha, but this guy does have at least *some* talent

  • Calling himself SirEltonJohn is more of a self insult than anything else! ;)

    When did Elton get talent??

  • It's the same strings repeated: A+B, D, G, A, B, D, G..Practice while watching t.v. and you'll get the hang of it in no time.

  • @sALtLiFE819 last two (at least in teh vid) are GD not DG... but yesh

  • Just stumbled upon this video again. It gave me my first-ever finger-picking lesson a few years ago, and without it, I'm not sure I would have ever gone down that route (to think of all the crazy fingerpicking stuff I do now!) I appreciate it so much. Thank you!

  • very hardddd¡¡¡¡¡¡¡

  • anngie 321 omg

  • very good man.. i learned how to play this song cause of this video...its one of the first videos i put on youtube.....

  • you added one extra note to the fingering

  • Similar chords to street spirit, made learning this quite easy :)

  • I mastered this song in about two days. It's really a fun song to play, the only difficult part is getting used to the travis picking pattern.

  • ur fingerpicking isnt right! you have to keep switching A and D string with thumb, and B and G string with your pointer and middle finger.

  • Very nice man! Thank You!

  • Not the best right hand fingering. More thumbs-no ring finger is the way to go.

  • thak you! i will try

  • it's like this. bass and power,bass ,power ,bass ,power,bass and power. string progression 1. 2nd and 4th string (B and A) 2. 4th string (D) 3. 3rd string (G) 4. 5th string (A) 5. 2nd string (B) 6. 4th string (D) 7. 3rd string(G) 5th+2nd, 4th ,3rd , 5th 2nd, 4th ,3rd this will help you alot. Like this comment so people can see it.
  • @psphacksforus you make it sound so robotic, its music. let it flow

  • @psphacksforus I think it would be better to right it out as a list and then just learn the fingerings, when am I can do that then add the chords, n1 for the help m8, great and beautiful song :)

  • @psphacksforus You have couple mistakes... first you say 2+4 and later its 5+2 string, after that, there is d-g and g-d at the end... not d-g twice

    1. 5+2 a + b

    2. 4th d

    3. 3rd g

    4. 5th a

    5. 2nd b

    6. 3rd g

    7. 4th d

Ppl like this to keep at top so everyone see.

  • that's great tutorial ever, I easyly understand it.. thank you so much..

  • nice singing. good learning video, but I prefer the Scorpions version. can you check is out o my channel please?

  • Anybody have suggestions on how I can get better at fingerpicking? Excercises or something.

  • @RADARpb try going back and forth from D with your thumb and then G with your index finger and B with your middle finger and e With the finger after that then backwards. try starting on the A string and then going down and doing the e with your pinky cuz it will help build strength in the other fingers...

  • @RADARpb

this song (played right) actually is a great exercise! to get better on fingerpicking you can also try Who Says by John Mayer. its easy chords but difficult right hand if you never did that stuff before. try searching for tutorials for that. don´t do this tutorial, the fingerpicking schema isn´t the right one.

  • beginner guitar lessons try guitarmanual.typepad.com/blog/

  • Comment removed

  • every tab ive seen for this finishes the basic picking pattern d string g string. but having seen this, you are right it finishes g string d string.

  • This song makes me wonder....Do LESBIANS get std's?

  • THANK YOU SIR EJ * EXCELLENT !

  • is it to much to talk?

  • I'm a beginner, you might find this helpful if you're one too. Once you've figured out the plucking, the chord progression is quite simple. If you've realized you play basic chords (as far as the 3,4,5 strings go), C & A (Cx4 Ax4 Cx4 Ax4), the other thing varying is where you keep shifting the finger on the second string, starting with C (1st fret), B (0th fret), D(3rd fret), and this goes on. If you're confused, please forgive me.

  • great!

  • man, thanks a lot :D

  • Nice job.

  • SLOWW DOWN!!!!!

  • Songs soooooo goood. So clear. Want to know how you did it. :D

  • Thanks for the lesson. Learned this rather quickly. Love how the melody plays out on the b string. Lots to learn here. Thanks again

  • @Sher13an "harpoon"?

  • Just found this song dont know why I missed it and first finger picking style Ive tried but getting there slowly GREAT and THANX

  • I guess Elton John doesn't just stick to the piano :P

  • A+B, D, G, A, B ... but then I've seen alot of videos doing D and then G instead of you saying G , D

  • YOUR MY BOY BLUE!!!!!!!!!!! your my boy....

  • Thanks for posting, very nice. To be exactly like "Dust in the Wind" we should use Travis Picking, which is as you demonstrate but with the last two notes in reverse order.

  • its easy when you try it

  • its not hard at alll when you practise it

  • i've learn that 3 year ago when i was ten and i really like this song

but i still love the tune

  • thats right except the end is AM .B string 3rd fret A string open then G/B, B sting 3rd fret A string 2nd fret you will notive an big difference

  • Can you play this with a plektron? or do u have to use like 2 fingers all the time?

  • @Dianachristine1000

Theres no possible way to play this song with a plectrum, this is a finger picking style played song.

  • Amazingly easy to follow, I loved it. I shall master this song...

  • You say, "6. G; 7. D" But do the other way around?

Ahhh too many chords to remember. But thank you for the great tutorial.

  • @MrJonathanOuh Yeah, that part is quite confusing. Many people play it 6: D, 7: G. What's up with that?
