  • This was what made me buy my first Rats LP! Just Sorry I never saw them live!

  • I'm particularly impressed with just how damn good they were. They appear to be plugged in and things look live to me and Mondays has a fine vocal, Geldof's shaky vocal style is kept in check and he adds some nice flair on it. Nice!

  • hey, turn Bob's vocal mike up a few notches already.

  • I woke from a coma in the Richmond Hospital in Dublin about 1/2 hour before the Rats were onstage on top of the pops, funny sight, all us cripples legging it to the TV room to catch the rats take over the UK pop sceene : )

  • Excellent live versions...difficult songs to replicate the studio versions as well as they do, which displays their great talent..

  • Compare this era, when bands knew how to wrire and play, to today's woeful shite. Thank Christ I was born in the 60s so I grew up in a decade of amazing music.

  • Jonny was wearin the stripey shirt : ) this is where they got ' bananas in pyjamas ' from hehehe

  • Thanks for posting!

  • Two great fucking songs!

  • bob geldof waers damn ugly cloths by the way... XD

    but awesome performance!

  • Thanks! This takes me back to watching this in my parents living room in 1980. I haven't seen this clip since then! What a great show: they had Split Enz, The Jam, The Clash, The Boomtown Rats...

  • Huge performance. Love it.

  • Tremendo playback xd

  • Jerry Seinfeld 0:36 ...... haha

  • I think they're 11 people who like mondays :)

  • his eyebrows grew back nicely

  • This is such a great performance of some great songs.

  • cooooool....

  • agree with jimbrown257. The lead vocals sound much more like Elvis Costello than Geldoff

  • really a great performance.

  • hardly a massacre 2 killed 9 injured an average day in America

  • @DevilsReject5768 That's nonsense. I live in a pretty average town of 100K, and the only time someone gets shot is when they try to rob a drug dealer. Normal people ("sheep" in hippy parlance) live very placid lives. Any home invasions we have (f.ex.) are exclusively criminals robbing one another. That fascination the UK has with American violence is as valid as ours with British dental work or lack thereof. It's myth, regardless of what moveon.org might suggest.

  • @mstheroff Nah mate everyone is shooting everyone in America I've seen it on the telly

  • @mstheroff Actually there are about 50 murders per day in the us compared to about 3 per day in the UK and 1 per day in Canada. If it is a myth then why do American's demand to have a gun in their home to protect themselves?

  • @DevilsReject5768 try telling that to the loved ones of the 2 killed, and the 9 injured.

  • Everytime i see this band i get sad, i have the oportunity to watch geldof playing in my city and i missed it, and when he come back to colombia!!!

  • Roland Orzabal bears a striking resemblance to Bob.

  • brenda ann spencer

  • I was on a train back in the 70's when this song was released and there was this drunk boofhead bragging that he was their biggest fan...even though he called them the Down Town Rats....never forgot that.

  • omigod...its Pink!

  • jesus you guys know that it was a massacra that inspired this song right?

  • Radical, Johnny Fingers kicks ass! That effect on the video is a bit crap though. Thanks for posting!

  • It's not the man whose plays Pink in the wall movie ???

C'est pas le mec qui joue pink dans le film the wall???

  • @ClintOhYeah yes it is Pink was played by Geldof and its brilliant vid lol

  • Who is the host presenting them at the beginning and again at 4:45? It kind of looks like Schneider from "One Day at a Time."

  • Okay, I found out. He's a comedian named Jack Burns.

  • Someone's looking at you.Song's name.

Quite good live performance. Can someone pls tell me why i like boomies so much?

    Theyre punk after all..:P

  • @urbestshot they were a fantastic live band. Not really punk, despite the era, more like David Bowie meets Thin Lizzy with a dose of satire. America lost out - they remained college band level popular here.

  • My God...were we ever that young?! Thanks for the memories! Great show, great group, great times!

  • The drummer looks like Arsenal's Arshavin

  • this is classic.i luv it

  • i got a friend over there in the government block...

could that be construed as some radical views of some liberals wish...!

    cool.

  • ....i got a friend over there in the government block...

...could that be construed as some radical views of some liberals wish...!

    cool.

  • this song was banned in san diego because the event happened here

  • Classic piano! Thanks Johnny Fingers.

  • 4:50 the GREAT

  • thos song is great:P funny lyrics

  • An excellent video, but like many live productions used during the 80s, marred by awful special effects the editor lacqured on top... (talking about the mirror effect seen in this video)

Also take note of the comet tail effects on the lighting. Definantly 80s!

  • AWESOME performance, this is just the best, thank you for posting this!!

  • Thank Sir. Bob Geldof for Band Aid ....

  • O________________O awesome!!

  • haha the wall

  • I never realized until now how much Bob Geldof looks like Jerry Seinfeld.

I am also kind of suprised that this is the kind of music he sings. The only thing I have seen him in until this is in The Wall. I was expecting something different.

    He sounds like Elvis Costello.

  • @jimbrown257 hahaha. you're right. geldof looks like seinfeld.

  • HAHA he kind of does. If you listen to The Fine Art of Surfacing you will get an idea of what the Boomtown Rats were about. Their music was amazing - most of the world only knows Tell Me Why I Don't Like Mondays, and they don't realize the horror of what the song is about, or the scope of the band who made it.

  • Totally - Jerry Seinfeld, I just realised this today. Cheers.

  • @jimbrown257 I know..however u shld chk out the live version at the secret policemans ball in 1979..he really look a lot like seinfeld there!!!!!!!!

  • Classic! great harmonies

  • Fantastic!

  • Thank you for posting this, I remember watching this very performance with my dad when I was 8. He's since passed away but I will always love this song. I even remembered that Bob Geldoff was wearing a crazy striped shirt. LOL THANKS for the very wonderful memory!!!

  • You're very welcome subgenre and thanks to The Rats for giving us great pop music.

  • 4:45 for you liz :P

  • great songs about bad things

  • wow not a bad song indeed

  • he looks like jerry seifield

  • pink

  • whats the deal with mondays??

where does the moncome from LOL

jerry seinfeld bahah he does to hene the attempted jeery stand up lol

    love this song

  • I girl in 1979 who lived across the street from her high school, woke up one Monday morning, and with the gun her father bought for her for Christmas, shot up her entire school! She killed eight people, when asked by police why she did it, she replyed, I was, "I was bored, I hate Mondays" ...her name was Brenda Spencer...just Google the story...it's F#@$%d up!

  • killd 2 people 8 was injured

  • It was an elementary school.

  • the gun was actually awarded her for her 16th birthday from her abusive father, she killed 2 adults and injured 8 children in the elementary school opposite her house. and she actually replied with "i don't like mondays" as her statement and reason for the shooting. She showed no remorse.

  • killed 2 people sent 8 to the hospital

  • oh man .. i hate my english teacher, 'cause when she would be teach as well as she should, i would understand what the song means

sorry for the mistakes , i'm a stupid german o.o

  • Bob Geldof

  • Thanks! I thought that was him!

  • omg, he looks like Jerry Seinfeld.. hehe. (: But, nice song!

  • yeah, i was having the guy on the tip of my lip but couldn't come up with the name !

  • lmao I was gunna say that same thing

  • ...and does Jerry Seinfeld look like Sylvester Stallone???!!!

  • @Sweetfan78 LOL!!!!!! I thought he looked like Jerry Seinfeld too!!!!!!!!! hahahahaa!

  • This is really great, thanks for putting it up, Sweetfan78.

But hey Adeykins, I grew up in the 70's in the US (NJ) and Mondays was a pretty big hit here. You still hear it played on radio from time to time, usually on a Monday by the 6:00 morning DJ.

I also remember when the actual event occurred that inspired the song.

    Good music lasts, yeah.

  • Wow! I haven't seen this since I was 13. We didn't have MTV then, only a few weekly music video shows and of course Fridays, and SNL. and Midnight Special, and Rock Concert.

  • thanks for posting these songs, "Mondays" was a massive worlwide hit except in the US classic song which has stood the test of time

  • I saw the rats in May 1980 at a small venue in Chicago. They were great!

  • I Remember This Show It Michael Richards

Or Cosmo Kramer Came Out Of The Seires
