Wow, one very talented young violinist! Years ago I played Viotti's other violin concerto (the one in one movement) but this one Manami plays is much harder than the one I played! What age did she start learning the vioin I wonder?

@Petertuske couldn't agree with you more. Unfortunately, many today seem to think that being technical is the same as musical. 90% of the videos on here are of robotic violinists with no soul in the music.

@lonewolf88 Same here. I feel like there is something wrong with the learning environment nowadays. All we focus on seems to be "achievement! achievement! I want her playing Sibelius by age 12!" But somewhere along the line, we forget to remind ourselves to be musical. I've been dragged along by this for a good three years. While I did eventually make it into All-State Orchestra, it was at the cost of really playing the music.

@lonewolf88 I think it takes a certain amount of emotional maturity and life experience to really have something to pour into the music. Technique is fine and all, but it's not amazing technique that makes, for example, a Perlman a Perlman. It is beautiful interpretation, the kind that is built through long, thoughtful consideration. The music is a means of expression, not a tool for show. It needs to be filled with life and energy, not just structured noise signifying nothing.

I do not understand all these [ecstatic] comments that second me derive solo from the fact to see a child. This child has talent sure but in order now she lacks quality of sound, personality, [intonation] in some points, precision and above all heart. é a good small car (but [not] a lot...). Plenty of good stuff in the playing. But not a great choice of piece, I think. Viotti lacks interest and sounds like boring student concerto. Not exactly a work of art by the composer. She has the skill to play much greater pieces, so not the best choice in my opinion. But congrats on the achievement and performance anyway!
