I would listen to any Dylan bootleg/outtake/demo in existence before I would listen to 98.6% of all other pop music. A legend and genius in every way.
Ok ,let me get this straight...This recording took place in the first New Morning Session at Columbia Studios 1 May 1970...George Harrison was going to play the guitar for New Morning, though that never happened...What we have here is Bob and George jamming in the studio...Of course there's no Cash involvement in this recording...He and Bob sung together in 1969 at the Nashville sessions and not in 1970...Whoever made this bootleg combined two different sessions...
Let's face it, Dylan can't sing. However he is the most amazing poet and songwriter of all time and in the '60s-1980 he could sing, not what most would consider singing maybe but the most important thing about Dylan's voice is that it redefined that even people who aren't fantastic singers can become famous and make a living from music.
@MardearribaStudio What has become of the world when I can't even have my own opinions without some moron saying I don't know anything? I don't have to face anything. So just shut up, please. I am a huge Dylan fan and I'm just saying that Dylan sings with such emotion that it doesn't matter that he can hit all the high notes right.
@Pandemonium44 no, the secret in dylan's voice is the emotion that he can share, we can feel every word that he mumbles. the mistakes, the giggling, the screaming, these are the things that make us feel the songs. that's why he could say completly nonsense stuff and make it so emotional, is the way he sang it, no what he sang
@MarianoJRibeiro Those things are magical yes but I can't say that it doesn't matter what he sang, without his imagery and characters and life changing lyrics I probably wouldn't care much for his songs. I consider his lyrics very important.
@Pandemonium44 yes of course are important, but they are important because he cares about what he sings, if he didn't, he wouldn't be a great performer, that's it, he is not a good singer, but he is a excellent performer. i mean, 'the sun's not yellow, it's chicken', sang by bieber it wouldn't have the same impact, right?
@MarianoJRibeiro Please don't put that idea in my head, just ignore bieber. I do that, I hate that everyone hates him and writes comments about him, just, simply, ignore the kid.
Dylan is as you say, an excellent performer, nothin' more to it.
@Pandemonium44 yeah sorry man, it was the first example that came up to my head, probably because i' ve read his name in some other comment in some other video
@MarianoJRibeiro Yeah, me too. I don't understand this hate-spree across the internet and especially on youtube against bieber. I am tired of his name, he is useless. People just need to ignore him and listen to stuff like this instead.
Cash and Harrison do not play or sing on this track. This is an outtake from an early 70s album session. But it is beautiful...Da Doo Ron Ron from the same sessions is pretty enjoyable too.
Well as I'm sure many of you know, Dylan wants criticized McCartney for this song, saying there were a hundred just like it. Glad they made recompense.
@wuzcloopin ive heard that dylan once said, "turn that shit off!" or something of that nature when a beatles song came on the radio. he was a fan of the beatles but at the same time he didnt like some of their stuff. which is understandable, i think he felt some of it was too poppy and cliche, which some of it was. mostly early beatles. the beatles were very influenced by what bob dylan and the band were doing, it changed their music. and of course so did the time dylan got them high.
@ryanhashton I think they (mainly John) were influenced by early acoustic Dylan. By the time he was playing with the band though, I think the influence was going more the other way. Some speculate that the Beatles were a big influence on him going electric..
@comanchio1976 No, actually, when Dylan started jamming with the band is when the beatles were really influenced by him. Not just the beatles, clapton was so inspired by the band and bob dylan that he decided it was time to quit cream, and move on to something more mature and meaningful. "Let it be" was a song that was very influenced by bob dylan and the band. Dylan and the band even contributed to the beatles break up
@ryanhashton Actually yes. Dylan did say the influence was both ways. I read that on hearing "In wanna hold your hand" Dylan decided to go electric. The Beatles were breaking up without any help from anyone, I know what you're referring to though.
That said, you sound pretty certain of all you're saying..sounds like you were there.
@comanchio1976 Just do some more research man. Yes, the beatles did influence dylan, but he also thought some of their music was shit. Don't believe that? Read Dylans book that was published by mojo. And yes, Dylan and The band did speed up the process of The beatles break up. Like I siad, do some more reading. George Harrison felt the same as clapton. And the Stones. They were really inspired by what was goin on at BIg Pink. Why do you think harrison joined the traveling wilburys? I am certain.
@comanchio1976 Harrison had wanted more artistic freedom with his work, which was not possible. Harrison had become very interested in Indian music, culture and philosophy Lennon and Mcartney believed that they were the two writers for the group, and did not want to incorporate Harrison's music into their band, therefore he felt as though he was being shunned from the group. George respected and even liked what Dylan and The band were doin more than what The Beatles were doing.
@comanchio1976 As of who was more influenced by Dylan, I wouldn't say John. Maybe George. But really, they all were. He got the high for the first time. As for electric Dylan being inspired by the beatles, according to Jonathan Taplin, a roadie at Newport (and later a road manager for the acts of Dylan's manager Albert Grossman) Dylan made the decision to go electric on day before his performance at Newport in '65. The Folkies had a problem with electric, and dylan had a problem with that.
@ryanhashton I know all of this..apart from the Newport gig reference. I did know that they were all booing him though and bitchy about after the gig. I even heard that an old time folkie (I forget the name) even tried to unplug his amp at a festival..a big hero of Dylan's at that.
Anyway, the point I was making was that the influence went both ways. Probably more toward the Beatles..fair enough.
@comanchio1976 Pete Seeger is the man you're thinking of. If you watch Dylan's previous Newport gig, in '64 or maybe '63, you can see Pete sitting close behind Dylan with a smile from ear to ear the entire time. He loved Dylan. But in '65 when Dylan went electric, he just could't hated it. Hate doesn't properly describe the way he felt. He was so pissed, unreasonably mad. And ya he said he was going to cut the cord and all sorts of things. Haha. Dylan is great. Electric or acoustic
@ryanhashton Yeah, I did get the impression you were a bit of a fan!;) So am I, to a lesser extent.
I just think that the Beatles' influence on the whole genre, and to their peers, is often overlooked..just because of the early mop-top stuff they did.
I went watching Dylan a few yrs back, a surprise b/day gift from my g/f. I have to say that I was really disappointed. Kept singing in her ear for most of the gig..letting her know how the original melodies went.
@comanchio1976 I have heard lots of people that have seen him lately say they didn't like it. I understand. He changes his songs a lot, he does them so many times. and hes just getting so old. hes dylan though, i could never be too disappointed.
@comanchio1976 His voice isnt what it use to be. Hes been singing so long, and putting out more stuff than anyone. Lots of people say he cant sing, im one who says he can. I truly like his voice. But thats not why i like him so much, i love his lyrics. There isnt many batter lyricists, Im a huge fan of The Beatles too.
Dylan is the fucking greatest songwriter in the world! It was him who shaped the a great part of the musiclandscape and inspired thousands of musicians to even start writing! It's Bob Dylans songs who are covered over a hundred times! It was Bob fucking Dylan who inspired Hendrix to get guts and start to sing! So how can you guys even say that he sucks or is a loser, if you want it or not: you're influenced by him!
That's Harrison doing the back up singing.... It's on the Dylan Basement tapes album. More like a 'send up' as George was not too keen on Macca at the time..
